    Thank you
This was a definate highlight of my trip to Vancouver. I am indigenous in NZ and know the value and importance of acknowledgement to indigenous people when visiting their land. We just really enjoyed hearing everything Victor had to share and getting a connected narrative to the land we were exploring. thank you for the oppurtunity =)

    More than just a park
Amazing guide with so much knowledge about the history and culture of the area and how the trees are an integral part of the culture. It is more than just a public park if you look below the surface.

Great school group tour at Alice Lake
Talaysay Tours offered a wonderful, warm, and educational tour to our elementary aged students and their parents at Alice Lake. Students were engaged by the stories and loved touching and tasting plants while learning about their cultural relevance. The tour was enjoyed by all ages!

A Good Way to See the Park
Great walking tour around Stanley Park. Our guide was very knowledgeable. My friend and I got lost since the meeting point was deeper in the park than I expected but our guide did come looking for us which we really appreciated. The tour was very interesting and enjoyable.

    Very enjoyable storytellings
The Talking Trees tour was educative and very enjoyable, led by an indigenous woman (Che , not sure if the spelling of her name is correct). She was very knowledgeable, respectful of her elders. She shared her personal stories with us and showed us many plants and their medicinal use.

First Nations experience in Stanley Partk
With the help of our excellent guide (Shay I believe) we learned about the history of the land where Stanley Park is now and how the First Nations that lived there utilized the trees, herbs and berries in their lifestyles, and how the different tribes interacted. A very enjoyable tour,

Wow! Incredible History and Context from the Indigenous Perspective. An unforgettable experience.
This was an incredible opportunity to hear an indigenous person’s perspective on the development of Vancouver. Our guide went far beyond the totem poles in Stanley Park to set the broader context for pre-colonial life in Canada and the impact of native people over the last 150 years. Our guide had gentle demeanor but did not shy away from harsh reality. He did not regurgitate the stories that anyone can read on the signs in front of the totem polls. Instead our conversation touched on cosmology, politics, history, culture, ecology, urban development, and even the Olympics. I left feeling more aware of the complexities of the place I was visiting, included in the history, and cared-for by our guide. It was a highlight of my visit!

Patrick was a very friendly and informative tour guide. The experience was very enjoyable. My only suggestion is to include a little more First Nation history.

    Talaysay Tours Highly Recommended
We booked Talaysay Tours Talking Totems Art Walk, History & Culture tour for our first day in Vancouver. We knew we would see many examples of Indigenous art in the galleries and museums that we would visit while in Vancouver, and we thought this tour in beautiful Stanley Park would be an excellent introduction. We met in the area of the totems. Our tour leader, Seraphine, and her assistant, Daniel, were very informative and we learned so much about the art, stories, and culture of the Northwest Coast peoples. There was also time at the end of the presentation for our questions. This tour enhanced our trip to Vancouver, and it is highly recommended.

    Fascinating and Informative Tour
I highly recommend this tour! Patrick exuded passion for First Nations history and local ecology on this fascinating and informative tour. We learned all about what Stanley Park was like when it was inhabited by Squamish peoples, not so long ago. He illuminated the manifold links between the land's ecosystems and its human caretakers. His care in answering all of our questions made it obvious that his knowledge and interest in the subject matter went far beyond a ninety-minute tour.

    Highly recommend this unique experience!
Our tour guide was very knowledgable and answered all of our questions. As an indigenous artist himself, he shared his insights into the history, culture and artwork of the Northwest Coast. I highly recommend taking a tour with Talasay Tours because an Indigenous guide presents a perspective that other guides cannot. It's really important to hear the voices of people that are from this region. We did the Talking Totems tour and we learned a lot about art, culture, and history of the land and its people. Our guide brought us tea to enjoy at the end which was really nice since it was a cold and rainy day.

    A Multisensory Walking Adventure!
I have arranged the Salmon Hatchery Tour with my post-secondary students in March 2023. As this was NOT my first encounter with Talasay Tours or Candace, I knew exactly what to expect. The bottom line is that the team behind Talasay is incredibly compassionate and knowledgeable. Touring with candace made us feel closer to our surroundings and more connected to the environment, respectful of heritage and aware of our place in the world. It is a very humbling experience all together. Definitely a tour for people from all walks of life and all ages. The tour quickly became a multi-sensory experience that was complimented by Candace's humor and love of life.

Guided walk at Sea to Sky Gondola for school class
Candace and her team led our elementary school class on a guided hike at the top of the Sea to Sky Gondola in Squamish. The students and their families really enjoyed the experience and felt they learned a lot. They especially enjoyed the stories that helped them connect more to the place we were in.

65 of our G6s joined for two Talaysay Tours (Spoken Treasures & Talking Trees) on March 29th, 2023. Candace and Jane were exceptional with communication and organization in booking the tours and putting together an itinerary for us. On the day of, Candace took the time to meet our group, welcome us and sang a song for the group. Sera, Shae, and Richard were our tour guides. They were engaging and shared a wealth of knowledge with our students. They did an excellent job and it was a great experience for the students - they learned a lot!

I would highly recommend Talaysay tours and we are looking forward to booking more tours for our students in the future.

It’s always important to acknowledge the First Nations people wherever we go and we did an amazing tour with Sera Lewis Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Guide. She showed us another perspective on Stanley Park and outlined the horrific treatment of her ancestors who had lived there long before the colonisers arrived. She painted a picture of a nomadic people who spent summers in the mountains and winters in the park before the damaging sea wall was built. Vancouver would still be a thriving city today but a more stable and less expensive and privileged place if it had grown alongside Squamish and other tribes instead of attempting to destroy their heritage.

We really enjoyed this tour of Stanley Park with Alfonso, a member of the shíshálh Nation. Alfonso welcomed us with a song and taught us a traditional greeting. We wandered along the seawall with him as he helped us see the park, the bay, and Vancouver as they would have been experienced by the original inhabitants. He was extremely knowledgeable about indigenous culture and practices. We learned so much and parted reluctantly, eager to seek out more information about Alfonso's nation and the other first nations of Canada. A delightful experience and highly recommended.

We had an incredible experience with this tour. It was a small group, just the 4 of us, plus the guide. Social distancing and masks.

We were welcomed with a beautiful song. Our guide Alfonso was very friendly and knowledgeable. He added personal stories to the indigenous history and culture he told us about. All of us loved the experience (ages: 18, 20, 49 and 50).

The communication with the company ahead of the tour was fast and clear.
We will take other tours with them in the future.

Karen and Family Thank you much for joining us. Alfonso had shared that he really enjoyed his afternoon with you all. It means a lot to us that your family wanted to share a tour with us, Talasyay, and learn about the local history and indigenous people that have lived here for thousands of years. Wishing you all the best and hope you can visit us again. Very best wishes, Candace Campo - Operator

We enjoyed a fascinating tour in Stanley park as Shay gave a wonderful introduction to the lives, cultures and histories of the communities who once lived on that land. She has so much knowledge and her personal passion is infectious. We all learned so much, and she kept two teens hooked for an hour. Thanks so much to both Shay and Victor for their time and for sharing their own stories. An experience we won’t forget!

Stanley Park Ecology Society staff attended Spoken Treasures by Talaysay Tours, a virtual tour through Stanley Park led by Indigenous Culture Ambassadors, Alroy and Candace. They’ve put together a wonderfully rich and heartfelt experience, recently making the transition to online programming.

Candace and Alroy shared stories and oral accounts of the history of this land and the deep connection to the plants and animals that make up the local ecosystem. We would highly recommend attending their programs, whether online or in-person, and for both organizations and individuals. We're looking forward to working with Talaysay Tours in the future!

It is very important for our team Talaysay Tours to partner with SPEcology in providing insight, education and community perspectives. Looking forward to our future projects together. Our guide was highly informative and clearly passionate about this topic. It was so nice of him to bring a thermos of tea, which we sipped as we all sat around after the tour to discuss various issues. I encourage all non-indigenous visitors to consider this tour, in which you learn things you definitely do not hear about elsewhere, and which we all need to know. Suggestions for the guide: speak more loudly or perhaps carry a small voice amplifier, and always face your audience when you are speaking.

My extended family and I were fortunate enough to have a tour with Candace and Alfonso in Stanley park. There were 7 of us ranging in ages from 9-75. Candace and Alfonso were knowledgable, humorous and engaging. They transformed our collective perspective on the places now known as Stanley Park and Vancouver through storytelling, song, and sharing historical and scientific traditional knowledge. They were accessible, hospitable and inclusive. The children were engaged and the pace was gently modified to allow for full participation by our mobility challenged grandma.
We all agreed that we would love to do it again next year!

Although I”d been a casual visitor to Stanley Park, it was by taking the Indigenous Tour that I gained a heightened awareness and appreciation of its historical and cultural significance. Our guide (Alfonso) used the 1.5 hour of the tour very effectively to highlight and share key insights about the culture of the First Nation peoples who populated the area, both from historic and contemporary perspectives. His engaging and open manner encouraged easy interaction and discussions that made for a unique—and highly recommended—experience.
