We took 4 generations of our family out to see whales yesterday afternoon. It was the first time any of us have done anything since the pandemic began so it was specially important.

The youngest, who had never seen a whale, was 2.5 years old and the oldest was her Great Grandmother who, at 92, also had never seen a whale.
The trip was wonderful, a comfortable vessel for all involved, great, friendly and knowledgeable crew and some terrific whale viewing.
We spent a long time watching humpbacks lunge feeding in the middle of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Amazing to see this behaviour and hear about its significance form the crew. We then explored the area around the Race Rocks Ecological Reserve where the Harbour Porpoises put on quite a show for such usually quiet little beings. We also saw the resident sea otter, elephant seals, seals and sea lions.
Thank you so much to the crew for making everybody's day.

Thank you Orca Spirit for the amazing trip! Our family would highly recommend your next whale watching trip with this company. The naturalists are very informative, professional and have passion for their jobs. We went on a covered vessel tour with our young daughter and everyone was very helpful. Thank you Rachael, Leah, Jordan and the rest of the Orca Sprit crew for showing our daughter whales for the first time!!

My friends and I had a wonderful time on our tour. It was a beautiful day out on the water and we learned so much about ocean wildlife. Leah and Matilda were amazing guides and Jordan was great at bringing us to a close yet safe distance to the wildlife. Watching Scuttle the whale was the highlight of the day. I would highly recommend Orca Spirit Adventures!

We booked with Orca Spirit Adventures at the last minute as our other tour operator had to cancel. We had a terrific experience. Loved the enthusiastic crew of naturalists on board. We had several close encounters with a gray whale! Jake, one of our crew members, took some wonderful photos! An enjoyable outing on the water to see and experience marine life.

The crew and staff were awesome, right from the booking to the end of the tour.
The crew onboard were vey knowledgeable and professional, also very friendly.
The boat had about 30 people on it.
Although we did not see any whales (they do have a “whale sighting”guarantee) we did see sea lions and some spectacular islands and shoreline!
I definitely recommend Orca Spirit for your excursion.

We had an awesome time on our trip with Captain Jordan and his crew! Both naturalists, Leah and Matilda, were passionate and very informative. We saw a humpback named Skuttle and checked out the wildlife at Racerocks. Not our first trip with Orca Spirit and it won't be our last!

Me, I love to go whale watching and have tried on many occasions to get out and spy one or two, so this time I was torn between checking out Victoria or possibly seeing an Orca; well, the latter won the day and OMG! how glad I was to have been there on this day. It was very cold and a bit miserable but hot drinks, for a nominal fee, were available; I sat on deck under a cover with my friend and hope was diminishing after an hour but I was feeling philosophical, cos hey, nature is nature but then suddenly (and I can tell you my heart nearly stopped with excitement) a large male local Orca was spied and then another....yes it was momentary but still, the thrill !!! the crew then received information from others out on the ocean that transitory Orcas were about and we started towards a siting....Oh My Days! it was the most amazing sight....a young male Orca stalking seals on an island - now I love animals and I did not want to see one of the little furry blighters go under but again, it is the wild and this is what happens ! however, those seals were not silly and the alarm went up and the dorsal fin went down. To our surprise, we then saw two others surface and they stayed in the same spot for ages, with the staff informing us that maybe the young ones were being taught how to catch and eat - My day was exceeding expectations. Movement was too quick to capture a photo on my phone, so in the end I gave up and just enjoyed seeing these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat - it was awesome and the crew were as excited as we were - honestly fancy having this as your office everyday - sublime. Eventually, we had to move on, although the captain stayed as long as he could. I was euphoric but that was not the end...oh no, we then saw a hump back and the shot everyone waits for, the tail out of the water as he did a deep dive - truly magnificent and if that was not enough, two Minke whales appeared - I seriously nearly expired with the joy of it all - so was this a good day - You betcha - and the staff were excellent on board and off. Highly recommend this tour.

We purchased our tickets through our cruise ship. Cost was $129 each. We questioned what it would be like in the evening (scheduled for 6:30pm) and we were told it was a very LARGE covered boat with good observation and a 90% chance of seeing Orca whales. We were excited about the prospect of seeing Orca whales in nature because we had not experienced that yet.
As we approached the boat to get on, we saw a large white Orca Spirit boat but they took us to a much smaller one across the dock from it. The smaller boat felt unsafe with outside ladder steps going to the upper deck. If you lost your footing on those steps - there was no room for mistakes - you'd most definitely be in the water especially while traveling on the water. The upper deck was the place to be if you wanted to see anything. The lower deck had maybe 6-8 tables booth style to sit around and was a refuge from the cool temperatures. But, the viewing from those tables was not the best at all.
We left at 7:30 instead of 6:30 due to the cruise ship being late. Not sure if the later time played into the poor experience but it was a very speedy boat ride out to two locations to see a single humpback whale at each location. We cruised around a lighthouse and then had a speedy boat ride back to port.
The three member crew (driver and two commentators) seemed rushed and lectured us that we should not be eating any kind of salmon whatsoever because that was affecting the Orca Whale population in their area. Not sure if that was their reasoning for NOT seeing a single Orca whale that evening?? Not sure if the later time played into our lack of results as well?? We would NOT recommend spending your last night on a cruise doing this excursion. The entire experience was COLD and very disappointing to say the least. An overall description of Average is being kind. We have been on several far better educational and interesting whale watches. The Orca Spirit did not even come close.

Hello AJVV24, Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your recent tour with Orca Spirit Adventures. We are disappointed to hear you did not enjoy your covered vessel tour with us. For this tour, we used our 50ft Pacific Explorer vessel. This vessel is Transport Canada Safety Certified for 70 passengers, and in this vessel certification, it allows room for passengers to move around and be seated as they wish. Our Naturalists let everybody know when departing what the capacity is and that you are free to move around and to ask questions. The back deck has stairs with railings on the side, so you can hold on while using them. These stairs are made out of anti-slip metal. Orca Spirit Adventures was one of Victoria’s first whale watching companies and boasts an incredible history of success in spotting whales in the Salish Sea. Our company is part of a large spotting network that is made up of local fishermen, the other local whale watching companies, marine research vessels, and a number of other resources that are in constant communication with one another as per the location, direction of travel and number of whales that are in our area. The wildlife that we view is wild and cannot be planned, so we are unable to guarantee sightings of any certain species of whale. There is no best time of day or weather for whale watching as these gentle giants are always moving. They can travel up to 100km in one day in search of food! This season we have had ample sightings of Transient/”Biggs” killer whales, Grey whales as well as Humpback whales. The return of Humpback whales to this area is very exciting for us in the Salish Sea. They have made an enormous return after the whaling era where they were only down to about 2,000 in the whole Northeastern Pacific. Our crew is passionate about educating our guests about our local marine wildlife including any threats or important information, however, our intention is never to lecture our guests, only to make them aware. With the decline in salmon populations, the southern resident killer whale populations have been on a significant population decline and have reached a critical level and are an endangered species. We consider ourselves incredibly lucky every time we encounter these animals. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Victoria. Let us know if you have any questions at whales@orcaspirit.com. Kind regards, Rebeca Sales Coordinator

Incredible. The knowledgeable crew took us on a 3+ hour tour of the humpback whales, then out to seals and sea lions and back for more whales. We saw dozens of whales and numerous flukes. Probably the best part of my holiday. I will do this again when I come back to Victoria.

We'd previously done whale watching in Victoria (in May) and got shut out -- no whales seen. This visit was in late September, and we got to observe a pod of transient Orcas. This was quite a thrill, and we got lots of great pictures. There was other wildlife, too -- mostly seals and birds -- but we were there for the whales.

The boat was covered and had a spacious "inside", which was quite important this time of year, because the ride was cold and windy. The guides were *very* knowledgable. The one I spoke with had a degree in Marine Biology, and I think the other guides did, as well. And they shared some very professional photos with us for free. (Note that the photo in this review is my own, amateur, photo -- ones taken by the crew were much better.)

Highly recommended, but go in a month (May was too early) when transient Orcas are around to increase your chances of a sighting.

Hi there Chip, Thank you for taking the time to review your experience with Orca Spirit Adventures. We're so glad that the whales were not so elusive this time and that you were able to see orcas, seals, and other marine wildlife - What a treat! Thank you for the mention of our naturalists; they are incredibly passionate about what they do, so they will appreciate your kind feedback! As well as the photos, I would also suggest checking out our Captain's Blog on our website - The blogs are a great source of information and go over the sightings from every tour. Thank you for joining us, and we hope to welcome you onboard again soon! Sincerely, Rebeca Sales Coordinator
