Located on Vancouver Island, Victoria’s ‘gem’ is the world-renowned Butchart Gardens, National Historic Site of Canada. This privately owned 55-acre display garden is located just 35 minutes north of downtown. The visit won’t be complete without a stop in the Seed & Gift Store filled with unique gifts and souvenirs, or a snack or meal in one of the on-site restaurants. The Rose Carousel with 30 hand-carved animals will be sure to delight children (and adults) of all ages. See ButchartGardens.com for more information.

Stopped service at 5:30pm. Cruise ship didn’t dock until 7:00pm. Called Trip advisor and was told seasonal hrs cls 5:30
Service stopped at 5:30pm, cruise ship did not get into port until 7pm, TripAdvisor informed us seasonal hrs close at 5:30pm, so asked for refund. I did not see any hrs of operations and when you call the mailbox is full! Would avoid.

See beyond the immediate Inner Harbor using the bus!
Some might think the double decker tours are a tourist trap... for me this was a practical transportation solution with the added plus of being an amazing way of getting out of the Inner Harbour area to see all sorts of surrounding neighborhoods and waterfront views! The entire length of the route takes 90 minutes, but you can hop on/off. Just know though in off season the wait to get a new bus will be about an hour, but we appreciated them providing a detailed schedule of the times at the stops! We discovered an amazing restaurant and another area we plan to return to on another trip thanks to the bus ride!

      Poor Audio Commentary
Wanted to get a bit more info on the history of Victoria and see some of the places that were too far to walk to. Enjoyed the route but i am afraid the audio commentary just could not be heard upstairs. Unlike many hop off and on tours we have done around the world this one relies on speakers in the ceiling and not head phones that plug in. We could not hear any of the commentary above the traffic and engine noise. At €120 Canadian dollars it was not good value for money!

Sept '24 tour of the city
'Humming bird' was our driver and was EXCELLENT, humorous and informative, and safe. Between her and the recorded narration the city tour came to life. Would definitely recommend 😃

Poor Bus Ventilation/Cooling & too quick progress to adequately view!
While the recorded descriptions of the various sites was interesting, the bus did not slow sufficiently enough for us to actually see very much of the building/venue/locale being described. I appreciate the bus is operating on streets with traffic, but some bus-lane accommodatioin could address the need for the bus to slow for a proper 'Tour', as advertised. As it was too hot for me to sit atop in the open-air section of the bus, I chose to sit on the lower deck, but it was stifling! Windows were not able to be open for some air, & I think there was some fan in operation, it was truly extremely hot & airless there. In view of the increasing reality of Climate Crisis, and the likely hot summers, it would be advisable for the bus company to address the discomfort of customers in their buses. Thank you. I would not use this tour option again, or recomend it, for a tour of Victoria.

      Interesting historical facts
Quite a bit of variability between bus drivers. Some were overly pushing retail locations. Please pay them more….making them ask for tips makes everyone uncomfortable.

      Pretty City
Beautiful city and surrounds. I loved the cycle trails that were used by all ages. Was so inspiring that I bought a new e-Bike when I got back to my home country. I visited the Empress for morning tea and I wouldn't recommend as $109 CAD is excessive. I also walked a few of the trails in Cordova and was so disappointed that the information signs with the 'history' of the area completely ignored the First Nation people. That is not only unfair but untrue that the history of the area only started with Settlers. Poor form.

      This is a great tour!!
We opted to take the Hop on, Hop off tour after walking 11km the day before. The tour was great, we got to see a lot of the area that was too far to walk to. We started at 9:30 am and took the bus all the way around the route, then we picked a few stops to go back to. We would do it again!

      Horrible, very rude and unprofessional
I would have given negative if an option. Our narrator norm was callous and rude. He had me in tears as he made rude, callous joke after joke about hitting people and wildlife, "splatting" them with the bus. My daughter died due to a car pedestrian accident. Not funny or appropriate to make these callous jokes. It was hurtful and very unprofessional. I got off the bus in tears. Very inappropriate narration. Only to realize grayline has a prerecorded narration driver norm decided not to use. He should be fired and I should be refunded in full.

      Good Way to see City
Cruise line give us so little port time here, it was not really that fun. We felt rushed in any thing we wanted to do. So we just did the hop on bus. It was a nice ride though the city. I just wish we could have done more.

Fun & Relaxing Way To See The City
We stayed in Victoria for a week and this was a fun way to see the highlights of the city and decide where we wanted to spend more time later on. It was sunny and warm so we opted to sit up top and you can’t beat the view. The bus was on time at each of the stops, the drivers were all very nice, and it was a convenient way to get around town without needing a car.

Perfect way to scope out a city
This is our go to in a new city. Get the lay of the land on day one to see what we'll want to see.. This one was excellent. Great narration and a really great amount of territory covered.

      Pre-recorded tour with unpredictable schedule.
We purchased this hop on hop off tour as a way to see the city during a short port day from our cruise ship. It seemed perfect because there is a shuttle from the cruise port that delivers guests to the Empress Hotel, where this tour starts and finishes. The tour is pre recorded and difficult to hear from the top deck. Nothing special at all. Just a very generic “these are the big attractions with a short history of them.” Because it wasn’t a live tour guide, it’s not like there were any moments where they share info about something special that is currently happening or we are passing. Also, there was no recent information shared, all history. The recording could be from this year or from 29 years ago and we’d never know because they shared no current info. I’ve never had a hop on hop off that wasn’t a live tour, so it was a bit of a disappointment for $60/person. We were told the busses come every 30 minutes. While the busses usually often come every 30 minutes, sometimes they instead have an hour between, which was really surprising since we were told they come every 30 minutes and weren’t given a schedule. As we are here on a cruise ship. So, we have a very hard deadline to be back at the ship. We had planned for a couple of stops but were unable to go to our last and most coveted stop, because we got stuck at a stop that had an hour between, setting our travel back 30 minutes. Had this been $20/person, I would have felt like the unpredictable bus schedule and pre-recorded tour were what we paid for, but not at $60/person for a larger group of travelers. Total bummer!

Open top deck for us to watch the deer
We were about to give a miss to this tour as we came from the free to visit nearby Legislative building when I decided to ask the young girls with a kiosk on the street if they have deals for the day only. Fortunately they did and the great price (a bit over half of what they normally ask) was a great incentive to join the bus about to depart: - the tour was simply great as we ended up to the Beach drive, on the eastern side of the town, which we could have easily missed if we were to travel using our own car, bearing in mind the narrated tour had lots of information about this amazing place: if I was not to love Europe above everything, probably this would be the second place on my list due to my love for wildlife - we also passed near Beacon Hill park, a stunning location, and not as busy as Regent's park or Hyde Park in London, UK, with amazingly friendly deer besides geese, ducks etc and gorgeous settings. More deer in the nearby cemetery and a deer with it's 2 young one stopping the bus as they crossed a road in this area, going to a house near the water!!! Loved that, besides the amazingly beautiful houses near this park - passing through China town and other locations, where the narrator detailed of some great restaurants to visit, we also passed through some great residential streets where people looked happy and friendly - no wonder very few left the tour and most returned to their cruises or downtown to explore more.

We were there in the winter. We wanted a little time outside in a green garden. The garden was nice a little cold to walk in but we ended inside with beautiful flowers to look at. It was sad that the price was still high even that we were there in the winter where there was not much flowers to look at.

We actually didn’t get the chance to ride on the shuttle as our flight was delayed by 4 hours and we were unable to catch the shuttle out from the pickup location. I gave the company 1 star because I tried contacting them to see if we could taxi to Butchart Gardens from the airport and catch the shuttle back to the inner harbour. I sent an email, as well as attempting to call multiple times before we caught our flight, so it was early and well before our booking time. I never was able to communicate with anyone. We had to make other arrangements instead and lost all the money we paid for the shuttle service as it was within the 24 hour cancelling window. If we could have contacted someone from the company, we might have been able to use half of the shuttle ride. It was because of the lack of available customer service that I gave this service a one star.

We had a fantastic trip on the shuttle with Aaron. He was full of knowledge as we drove through the city he pointed out many of the sights. On the rest of the trip we were given all the information on the history of the gardens. Little bits of humor thrown in made for an entertaining trip. Thanks Aaron

The trip out to the gardens was fine. The tour company used a comfortable air conditioned bus. The driver was knowledgeable and gave us some history but also gave us some quiet time. The trip back was a disaster. They sent a non air conditioned bus ( on an 80 plus degree day) with plastic seats. The bus had a partially opened top but most of it was enclosed. It was very hot and sticky. One passenger got very dizzy and sick. The driver shared mostly trivial information and never stopped talking. People were very hot and grumpy by the time we got back.

Our plans had changed and I tried to cancel the Butchart Gardens express Shuttle the next day after purchase and a week ahead of time and using the same site as I had booked it, Travelocity. (free cancelation) Travelocity would not allow me to cancel it online even through it was booked through them online unless I was a premium member but listed a phone number to call, which was controlled by bots and no humans to be found. (I know how to get past the bots, but this place was a solid wall) I then tried the sub company that was listed through an online access and a number said leave a message, but message box was filled. I tried to cancel for a few days in a row with the same results, and just gave up, so I blocked the charge with my credit card company as a last resort. There is a site called Pissed off customer that I am now a proud member of and apparently I am not the only person frustrated and disenchanted with Travelocity's business dealings and how they treat a consumer.

Purchased tickets for Butchart Gardens from CVS Sightseeing. Our driver was very knowledgeable about the history of the Gardens, so by the time we arrived we felt we would appreciate the Gardens so much more, and we did. It was amazing walking around knowing the history of the different parts of these beautiful Gardens.

Butchart Gardens itself is a 5+ ! It is a must see if you’re anywhere near it. Grey line shuttle was also excellent. They’re friendly, handle the transport to/from Butchart and also sell entry tickets at the same price as the garden.

The gardens are beautiful even in November when there isn't much in bloom. The gardens were being decorated for Christmas. Not too busy so quiet with lots of time to sit and enjoy the water displays and Japanese garden. Still blooms on many of the rose bushes and the trees are beautiful. Delicious tea! Public transit drops and picks up from the gardens $5 round trip to downtown Victoria.

With so many beautiful and amazing varieties of flowers it is worth the price. The Rose, Japanese, and Italian gardens are absolutely beautiful. Might be because of covid as there were no tour buses so visitor volume was low. This presented many opportunities for solo pictures. I would definitely visit again. Shout out to the fellows directing parking lot traffic.

Everywhere you look there is something to see and enjoy! Even the parking lot is well decorated with vegetation! The sunken garden was our favourite, but there are so many interesting areas. If you can, stay until dusk when the place becomes a fairyland with lights and a very different feel to the gardens. It is a lot more accessible than I had originally thought. I have mobility issues, but the stairs are wide with good handrails and most places are accessible by ramps.
