      Couldn't have been happier!
Hubby and I wanted to go whale watching for our 60th/62nd birthdays. We chose Orca Spirit for the Zodiac 3-hour tour and couldn't have been happier! We got to sit in the front, bounciest seat; not only saw an orca but sea lions, seals, an otter, rhinoceros auklets and cormorants as well as a juvenile bald eagle! Our captain, Mick, was knowledgeable, experience, funny and kind. He was able to spend time showing us the sights and teaching us about T11A; aka Rainy; the orca we saw. The day was overcast but we had a great time. We would definitely do it again.

      Experience of a lifetime
Crew all excellent: Derek and Jake talking to us upstairs, Ryan and Jeremy in the wheelhouse. Quite quickly after getting out into open water two humpbacks approached the boat, one a male called Merlin, and an unknown companion. They swam around and underneath the boat for over 30 minutes. The crew’s obvious excitement and delight made us realise that this wasn’t a normal occurrence. Both whales brought their heads out of the water on numerous occasions. Other boats were around, but only after more than half an hour with us did the whales move away. So did we then, and headed to Race Rocks and beyond, where we saw harbour seals, California sea lions, and Steller sea lions. Then turned round to come back to Victoria. A humbling and exhilarating experience. Very glad we did it and we highly recommend Orca Spirit. Thanks again to our brilliant crew, and apologies for only just posting this review now. (This was early September)

      A Fabulous Trip
What a fabulous trip. It started with meeting our captain and all the safety briefings which are necessary but he made fun. He had an immense amount of knowledge about seals, whales, birds and was keen to share it - which made it all the more interesting. Take layers - it's chilly out there on the water - but well worth it - highly recommended.

      Worth the trip
We booked this as a day trip from Vancouver with Harbour Air, flying in a seaplane. The walk from the airport terminal to the Orca office and departure pier is 1.5km and takes about 20/25 minutes we only had 30 minutes from landing to leaving so was a bit tight and we walked at a pace. The tour was well organised, lovely sunny day and calm seas, it didn’t take long to see humpbacks but unlike other trips done off California the whales didn’t /don’t fully breach out of the water, our guide said they only do this when showing off to mate, they are here to feed, saw plenty of tails in the air. No Orca or dolphins but never less a great trip out with very knowledgeable crew.

      Great Day Out
We lucked out with a beautiful day and 65-degree temperatures. The boat was comfortable and Captain Bill came over and answered our questions and pointed out some highlights. The running commentary up top by Megan was top-notch, from pointing out how hydrodynamic Orcas are to what all the sea creatures eat and their habits. She was also the official photographer and we can download all her photos, which is a nice touch. Another thing I loved, and this was a main reason I chose Orca Spirit Adventures, is that they will pay for a cab to and from the boat if you're staying in downtown Victoria. All in all, a great day and it went way too fast.

      Amazing!
What an absolutely amazing experience, with people who are so passionate about their environment. We were lucky enough to have Jake and Sophie to explain the tour and to shed some light on the marine wildlife in the waters we would be in. We had incredible weather that made the day even more special. We saw a pod of Orca feeding, which was just incredible to witness, followed by humpback whales, lots of sea birds and the seals and sea lions that call this place home. The tour was for 3 hour, but it felt like it was over far too soon. The staff all made the trip such a remarkable experience with their enthusiasm and knowledge of the wildlife, along with the history of almost losing these amazing animals in the past. They explained the efforts to reintroduce the wildlife to the area, this has been a huge success, but there is still more to do. Orca Spirit Adventures supports organisations to benefit the environment by providing a percentage of the ticket price to them. They are also 100% carbon neutral. Their philosophy is sound. We would highly recommend adding this company to your itinerary if whale watching is on your agenda.

Great whale watching trip from Victoria!
We had a great trip with Orca Spirit. The rib boat was comfortable, and felt safe, and we were given plenty of information by our captain. We were lucky to see about 3 or 4 different humpback whales, including a mother and calf, and one whale quite close to our boat. Prior to the trip we were contacted by Orca Spirit to change the time of our booking - they were very helpful with this, and quick to respond to phone calls and emails.

      A wonderful experience
This was a wonderful opportunity to see orcas and whales in the wild. We were amazed at the number of different animals we saw and were lucky to have perfect weather. The skipper was very respectful of the whales. To see such beautiful animals behaving in the wild is a privilege inspiring us to do our bit for conservation.

      Not Enough Deck Space
The crew was friendly, knowledgeable and informative and worked very hard to insure there were many whales and sea lions to view. They were considerate of the animals and other vessels. The boat seemed a little shabby and there wasn’t the outside viewing areas that I thought would be available to all passengers. The first 10 passengers claimed the 10 seats on top and then didn’t relinquish them, so the rest of the 30+ passengers stood crowded at the back in a small area or inside. We all paid the same price - either those seats should cost more, or the passengers need to rotate - they won’t if they aren’t told to. This company had two larger vessels that would have allowed more outside viewing room, but they were able to fit our number on the small boat, so took that one out. I think I would book a trip with a boat having more deck room available next time.

      A great whale watching tour!
Our trip was awesome, the crew of Megan, Marissa and Ryan did a great job of finding wildlife and engaging everyone on the vessel, including the kids. They were also able to provide a ton of info about the wildlife we saw. And they provided a ton of hot coffee and tea for this cool and damp west coast day;)

      Amazing experience
Excellent tour & saw lots of Orca whales & humpbacks. The staff were very knowledgeable and informative. Amazing experience. We went on the covered boat but you can go on a zodiac if preferred. There are morning or afternoon sailings. Difficult to get great photos unless you have an advanced camera but they take professional photos which are free & available on Flickr a few days after your trip. This means you can just enjoy the whole whale watching experience.

Book it!! This company went above and beyond for our small group. We came from a cruise line and after docking, we weren't able to get off the boat for almost 2 hours later. They let us go at a later time and sent someone straight to the dock to pick us up, instead of us having to meet at the storefront. They didn't have to do that, but it was amazing of them that they did!

Matias was an EXCELLENT tour guide. He made sure everyone was having a great time, took us to see sea lions and seals, and made sure we got to see some whales. Unfortunately, we didn’t see much of the whale (just the back and tail, but that was no one’s fault. He made sure everyone had gotten their pictures when we stopped before taking off again, had tons of knowledge of the animals and their habits. It was one of the best tours we had! I'll def be back again.

Word of advice, they do provide thick coverall-type jumpsuit to wear, but if you are going when the weather is going to be cold, bring gloves and a warm beanie. A mask/scarf that covers your mouth would be great too if it's raining, otherwise the rain does sting a little but it's bearable.

Went out on Kodiak this morning and was fortunate enough to have Sarah as our skipper! She was very knowledgeable, infectiously enthusiastic, and showed us an exceptional time. We were able to see a vast array of marine life, including otters, seals, porpoises, and a lone killer whale, while also seeing an enormous cormorant nesting site.

Having lived in Victoria for 4 and a half years, it becomes difficult to find things that I have not done before and even day trips or outings can become repetitive. This however was truly a unique and special experience that reminded us how fortunate we are to live in such a special location. The price was worth the experience a hundred times over, and we were ensured that if no whales were seen, we could come back at any time to go out again for no extra charge.

All in all, it was an excellent morning, and something my friends and I will cherish for a long time. Thank you to Orca Spirit Adventures and to Sarah for an excellent morning and a reminder of how special Vancouver island really is.

Amazing experience despite rough seas on the return trip! Loved being on the open water and our Captain - Aidan - not only handled the boat expertly, keeping our ride as comfortable as possible, but was obvious very knowledgeable about the marine life we encountered. It was a priviledge to be in the Orca's habitat and Aidan gave us an extra 10 minutes which really made a difference as we got to be closer without the other boats around. The return trip took longer than expected as the seas were rolling and the winds were quite strong but at no point did we feel unsafe. The dock where Orca Spirit is located is easy to find and a good spot to grab a beer and food after your tour too! We had a great adventure and would highly recommend Orca Spirit.

An amazing morning out on the water with Captain Jordan! We saw harbour porpoises, two transient orcas, a humpback whale and of course the sea lions! Jordan was extremely professional, knowledgeable and personable. He kept us informed of the sights that we saw and what the plan was next. It was also great to see the different whale watching companies work together to find the whales, so that the customer got to have the best experience! Would recommend to anyone visiting Victoria!! Fabulous experience, and would 1000% do it again. Would recommend going in the 9am time slot before the waters get busy, and seems to be when the whales are pretty active (searching/hunting for breakfast).

My wife and I booked a whale tour which there was some uncertainty about the day before due to bad weather conditions. Marnie provided excellent customer service by informing us of the weather conditions well in advance and being very understanding and helpful as we unfortunately decided to cancel. They were nothing but helpful and kind, hopefully we’ll be able to use this company for a tour in the future!

We did the Zodiac tour today with Jordan and wanted to share feedback about how amazing the trip was.

I've been waiting my whole life to see Killer Whales in the wild and today that bucket list item has been ticked off.

Although the sea conditions weren't great (the trip after ours needed to be cancelled) we had such a great time. We chose to sit at the back as I'm a little uneasy when on the water but Jordan made me feel comfortable straight away as he explained the safety features of our wetsuits and the boat before we set off.

The ride in the boat itself was really fun, it was like a jet ski experience just slightly bigger with beautiful surroundings.

We spotted a pod of seven transatlantic orcas, sea lions and seals. Jordan was great about giving us information about the animals, constantly on the look out and telling us where to look and also gave us information about local area and surroundings.

If you're looking for a fun way to view the whales when staying in Vancouver Island I'd highly recommend Orca Spirit. They do also have covered vessels if you'd prefer a larger boat.

    Thanks again 😊🐳🇨🇦

My partner and I took this trip on Canada day, and what a day it was. Our first encounter was with the girls in the office. They were very warm, personable and friendly. Offering lots of info and advise, sharing their experiences and asking us about our time in canada. We felt at ease immediately, esp given the current covid situ. We were then greeted by Mick our captain. It was noticable straight away that Mick had a passion for his job and more importantly the wildlife. He was very knowledgeable and wanted us to have fun. We went out on the open boat fully kitted out in our float suits and the ride itself was great fun, mick offered lots of local knowledge and interacted with us all. We got to see around 10 sightings of whales and Mick made sure he knew where we could find them. He was very respectful to the animals and made sure we weren't invading their home. We also felt that there was no rush, he was happy to stay out longer in order to see more and we cant speak highly enough of our experience. Weve already shared our experience with our friends and family and 10/10 would recommend.

The most expensive boat ride and we never saw any whales. You can come back for free at any time but you will be put on a wait list so the chances of you getting to go again are very slim and I live 2,400 miles away. So I don’t recommend this place.

Hello Mrs-C125, Thank you for taking the time to write to us about your recent experience. We are very disappointed to hear that the whales were not spotted during your tour and that you did not enjoy your experience with us. Orca Spirit Adventures was one of Victoria’s first whale watching companies and boasts an incredible history of success in spotting whales in the Salish Sea. Our company whale sighting success rate in our peak season which we are currently in, between May-September, is over 95%. It is the time of year when there is the greatest number of and different types of whales in our waters, however, the wildlife we view is wild and cannot be planned. Orca Spirit Adventures is part of a large spotting network with the Pacific Whale Watching Association that is made up of the different whale watching companies in the Pacific Northwest of both Canada and the US, local fishermen, researchers, and a number of other resources that are in constant communication with each other. During your tour, your captain was communicating with the other vessels on the water and taking into consideration where the whales had been spotted the before and the direction of their travel, as to the status of potential whales and wildlife entering the area and coming within range for us to be able to view. There is no best time of day or weather for whale watching as these gentle giants are always moving. With our whale guarantee, we want to make sure that when you return for your second tour, whales have been spotted earlier that same day. The way that our whale guarantee works and is advertised on our website is that guests’ original booking is flagged in our system as a “no whale tour”. Our whale guarantee redemption bookings are made on a stand-by basis and subject to Transport Canada vessel capacity and mandatory staffing requirements. The guarantee does last for life, so the next time you are in Victoria, we really do hope you will join us again. If you have any questions, please reach out to me directly at hailey@orcaspirit.com Best regards, Hailey Sales Manager

She shared a wealth of information about humpback whales, killer whales (orcas), and other marine life. She answered many questions without hesitation because of her vast knowledge. We saw multiple families/groups of these animals. She said we “hit the jackpot” because of the number of whales we were able to see and get close to. She extended our tour because we would see another group and she would stop so we could observe them (she also asked if any of us were okay with that). I would highly recommend this company for a whale watching tour. From the person who first greeted us to the last person assisting us, it was outstanding!

Thank you Mick for the great Whale watching tour!
I was on a Zodiac with two others (Covid times) and it was so much fun! I would never go on a normal whale watching boat, with a Zodiac you are closer to the sea and you can hear the whales breathing. And it's just more action, especially when you hit high waves.

On our tour we saw seals, otters, porpoises and one orca.
But the best were the 4 humpback whales we spotted, they were so close that you could hear them breathing and we could see then 3 times diving.
And Mick was trying so hard to give us the best time and to let us see as much as we could.

Would recommend this to everyone who comes to Victoria!
