- Jules367160 contributionsWhat a time!My boyfriend and myself went on the tour with Amon on Saturday, September 28th.2024. He took us on a wonderful tour and gave us time to explore part of the Cabot trail by stopping to take pictures and seeing the views of the trail. We found Amon to be friendly, personal and had a great time.Written October 3, 2024

- JGC13130 contributionsCoastal Site Seeing With HistoryThis is a great way to see the area- mostly driving up the coast and then around Sydney. Our driver knew the history of the area and also really helped us understand what it's like to live there. He took us to a number of scenic points with great views including a lovely lighthouse and then a drive around Sydney. The trip was relaxed and unrushed. He was generous with his time. There were 4 of us and rode in a minivan which was clean and comfortable. For me the highlight of the trip was an unexpected stop at Fort Petrie a World War II battery built to defend Sydney Harbour from the German Navy. There's a small but fascinating museum there with a gentleman whose family has saved this fort from demolition and then built a museum. He provides a fantastic overview of the purpose and experiences of this battery. Don't miss this! Tip- the museum is not always open- ask your driver to see if it's possible to have the museum guide open it up for you.Written September 26, 2024
- jeremyh7970 contributionsA great trip, much better than doing it via the cruise company! An excellent tour and a great way to see the Island, and far better than getting the tour from the cruise ship. Cost was probably a little less, but you get an entirely private tour so you can spend what time you like at the various attractions. We had enough time everywhere, and got back to the ship on time. Only issue is slight anxiety as to what would happen if anything went wrong, like a flat tyre, when you only have 30mins left to get back to the ship, but nothing went wrong, and I'm sure they have other taxis to rescue you if needed, assuming there is enough time. We were taken to a great restaurant for lunch. Guide was Sulwinder, who couldn't do enough to ensure our trip was successful, and very knowledgeable about the history of the area, although he has only lived in Canada himself for 2 years or so. Very happy.Written September 25, 2024

- 133jeannied0 contributionsAmazing views and outstanding service from GurtejThe views were amazing. The ride was comfortable! Gurtej Singh told of some of the history of the area. We were a group of 5 and had outstanding service with stops along the way for photos. Gurtej listened to the needs of our group. The only negative was the communication leading up to the trip. Otherwise, I would recommend.Written September 23, 2024
- davidbC3809BN0 contributionsSave money by just going direct to the taxi serviceDo not book through this company. If you want the exact same experience but for less money just get the taxi service at the cruise terminal. This company doesn’t answer the phone, return calls, or respond to emails. It’s just a front that charges an extra fee to book a taxi that you can hire directly. I had a poor experience dealing with this company while cruising on Princess. I paid CN$600 for a private tour that would have cost CN$400 if I just hired the same taxi when I disembarked from the ship. I had a number of questions about the tour prior to disembarking and sent two emails, left several phone messages and called the company ~10 times and no one ever answers the phone or responded to email or phone messages. The owner apparently lives in Scotland and has someone running the company for him. Don’t bother supporting this company and just hire the same taxi service when you arrive in Sydney.Written September 22, 2024

This company is unethical and not honest. My wife and I plus another couple booked this taxi cab tour for $400/cab plus museum entrance fees. We were told that it would only be four of us for the cab. However, when we met up by the cruise port, we were told two more passengers would be joining us, but our fees were not reduced. At the end of the tour, we contacted the owner (Simon) and he later wrote to us via WhatsApp and agreed to refund CAD$20 per person as a "good will gesture"! It has now been over six weeks and we have not seen any refunds except more messages saying he is checking and will get back to us.
I do not believe anyone should book tours through this company because of its false advertising and false promises.

Hi Frank,
I am sorry that the refund has not gone through yet. This is done by a 3rd party banking provider and I had hoped it had gone through by now. Infact in my last message to you when explained I had been off sick and was working on this today. I would like to clarify a couple of things.
1) You did not book this tour but did infact book the Baddeck and Iona tour for a price of $100cadpp.
2) You had booked a shared tour and you were advised there would be another couple joining you. However you were never told that there might not be more people joining.
3)There was never any false advertising or false promises made and even though you had thought there would only be one other couple with you as an act of goodwill we reduced the cost for you which we said we were willing to do.
We are a small business and I have felt the need to defend that we did not promise anything we couldn't deliver on and it didn't false advertise your tour at all. I also know that you have said you will complain via your credit card company as well. Despite the fact we have tried and tried to remedy this amicably as possible.
If you wish to discuss this further please reach out to us via email or phone.
We hope that you get to see more of the island in the future.

This was quite simply a taxi ride....after a long drive we were dropped off at the museum-which was quite nice, but with no guide. Then returned to the
cruise port with a very brief stop at a shop which offered a few scottish items which were very expensive. We selected this tour with the belief that we would be taken to a few sites of historical interest. The two ladies who also purchased this tour complained that Simon had promised an interesting tour. Very disappointing as we did not get to see any of the other sites that were offered to tourists.

Hi,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I am very sorry to hear that you felt you did not have a good day. I really hope that you contact us directly as it is not possible to see what date you had your tour and who your guide was from your review. I am also unsure what sights you are referencing that you skipped? I am unsure what shop you stopped at as well? I would like to point out that the museum is 1hr away from the Port as it is located in the village of Baddeck, I know that all tour operators take the same routing there. With regards to the AGB Museum it is Parks Canada policy that only their staff do any guiding inside. I hope to hear from you soon to discuss all this in more detail and hope that you visit the island again. Thank you

Booked the Baddeck and Bell Museum weeks before our cruise. We Repeatedly messaged requesting the timing of the trip and where to meet and finally heard from him the day before our scheduled trip. Cab driver was extremely friendly and kind, which was the only reason why we decided continue with the trip when we asked him to call to make sure the museum was open. There was no answer but we felt like the operator would have looked into this before accepting our booking and money, so we left. After driving 2 hours to museum, we found a sign on the door saying it was closed for the season. The entire town was closed, as well. The driver offered to drive elsewhere (several times) but after being in the car for more than 4+ hours with no stops for food/drink, we insisted on going back to ship. The driver was not at fault. He tried his best. We messaged the owner about what happened and never heard from him. Do not book with this company.

Hi Debra,
I am sorry that the AGB Museum was still closed on the day that you visited and as discussed with you on the message function we are looking into what happened and exactly what went wrong that day as to why the museum was closed and you were not notified before hand. We did have other bookings for Baddeck that day and they were altered in advance as we had managed to contact the guests to tell them about the closure. I agree I have not replied yet as I want to make sure I have everything correct at our end. As you know we had some technical issues with our computer systems which meant not all messages were coming through to us in a timely manner. In terms of the town being closed we were not aware of this being the case for that day before the tour departed. I note that you have said that no refund was offered that is simply not true the refund was processed for you before you left this review, in fact it was the day after your tour.
I am sorry it did not all go as it should have and I will follow up with a thorough outcome within a few days.
I do hope that you enjoyed the rest of your holiday.

We took the Baddeck, Bell Museum & Mini Cabot Trail tour. Simon was a little difficult to communicate with. He was not always responsive. We went ahead with the tour anyway. The weather was very rainy and lots of fog. We saw absolutely nothing except the Bell Museum. We essentially drove around for 5 hours in the rain. It was a total waste of a day. We thought we should’ve been offered, at least just to pay the portion of going to the museum. The operators should inform guests that if the fog was so dense that they would not be able to see anything and have an option just to take a trip to the museum. When we wrote back to Simon about our disappointment there was no response. Be forewarned about this tour!

Hi Heather L.
I am sorry to hear that you did not have a good day with the weather when you visited Cape Breton Island but this is something completely out with our control. It was predicted to clear up later in the day and unfortunately it did not happen soon enough. I have looked at your booking and seen that you were on one of our shared tours with another couple, that we created for you and I have spoken to the guide to discuss your tour as I was in the process of fact finding to respond to your comments that you sent in 8 days ago. The guide informed me that neither yourself or the other couple said they wanted to cut the tour short at the time to him. Also it would not have been feasible to only show you the museum and Bell village section of the tour as, you were on a circular tour that does not allow for some of the group to be left in Baddeck and then be collected again later in the day. I would also note that non of the other private operators or any of the cruise lines own excursions were cancelled or altered during the day that you visited as all had hoped that the weather would improve. I am sorry that you have felt I was difficult to communicate with, we are a small team behind the scenes and because we missed each other twice I did actually agree to later payment date and type compared to our usual terms to try and accommodate you as best as possible.
I hope that you come back and visit the island again sometime and hopefully the weather will be more cooperative.

We are the other couple who rode along with Heather L. Totally agree with her sentiments, With such terrible weather conditions the tour should have been cancelled. Our guide was not very talkative and long moments of silence were quite awkward. I had expectations for this tour as I believe in supporting small business. Other notes, no stop to eat. Very disappointed and in looking back I believe we would have been better off keeping our original excursion that we had made with the cruise line.

Dear Danny A. I am sorry to hear that the weather was poor on the day that you visited with Heather. However poor weather is outwith our control and I know that no operator cancelled because it had been forecasted to improve. I have conducted a full follow up with the guide and they informed me that they did give lots of narration during the tour and did also give 5 stops throughout the tour on top of the additional time in the Bell Museum. They also told me that time for lunch was offered to you in Baddeck and that you had plenty of time for lunch. I note that you feel you should have stayed with the cruise lines own shore excursion. I am not sure which one it is you booked but if similar to ours you would have had the same weather conditions, and I do know that none of the cruise lines excursions were cancelled. Finally with regards to the tour being shortened or altered the guide has explained to me that a no point did you or Heather ask for this to happen.
I hope that you are able to visit Cape Breton Island again and the weather is more cooperative.

Our guide's name was Happy and gave us commentary as we travelled along. He stopped at several good viewing points for us to take photos. Would recommend doing this tour. The Graham Alexander Bell was very interesting and definitely takes at least 1 hour to go through.

What a gem of a museum! Learned so much more about Alexander Graham Bell than what schoolbooks feature. He was our era's renaissance man with all his ideas and inventions! If you get the chance to visit you won't be disappointed. Husband & I took the tour while other members of our cruise ship went on a ship sponsored excursion and we were glad we chose this tour! Manjeet, out guide, met us at the port with our name on a placard and we had a nice ride through the countryside full of autumn colors.

I went on this tour today. My husband and I had a nice time. It was a nice relaxing bus ride to the museum with beautiful scenic views. If you can sit on an aisle seat, the window seats had limited visibility. The museum was very interesting and offered some beautiful views. We had a great time. Our tour guide and bus driver were so nice and very informative. My only regret is that we didn’t bring cash and we were able to tip them! They were great!! Grateful for my experience and that they helped make this a positive experience for us.

Very nice tour through the local Sydney area to Bell museum. Van driver was friendly and knowledgeable. I had messed up on the time our cruise ship docked when I booked tour, yet we were still able to go and were graciously accommodated.
