A comprehensive tour of Halifax’s core and outskirts with sights and historical tidbits that you’ll happily gobble up
I had lots of fun touring Halifax and its outskirts in a van, with the guide being friendly and knowledgeable. All kinds of things—from the Halifax explosion to Fisherman’s Cove—were effectively covered and left me with a highly positive impression of the city as a whole. Not even the somewhat cloudy weather can keep me from recommending this tour.

        Wonderful tour of Halifax!!
Paul McNeil was a wonderful tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and could answer varied questions about Halifax and Canada. He also took us around the scenic route rather than the highways.

        Terrific Halifax Tour
We spent a wonderful day with Paul. He lead us on a thoughtful tour to the Titanic and Halifax Explosion sites. We explored Halifax and learned what a beautiful city it is and how they are maintaining their historic buildings and appearance. He adds to his narrative with history moments that he runs on a Samsung screen display. He is excellent with communication and was easy to meet.

Great tour of the highlights of Halifax
What an amazing tour and experience! Paul is thoughtful, considerate, and knowledgeable. He LOVES his city and its history and conveys it so that you leave loving his city as much as he. As he took us around he explained what we were seeing. Enough time to explore at our stops. And we stayed away from the crowds. Worth ever penny! Book early as he offers small group tours.

        One of the best!
We heard about Paul O’Neil from fellow cruisers as we were sailing to Canada with a stop in Halifax. Paul gave us an amazing tour, he is very passionate and knowledgeable about the area and we were not disappointed. Paul supplemented his tour with great videos as we were driving to the next location. Before our ship arrived to the port, Paul texted us of his vans location and it was easy to find him. I highly recommend this tour, this is one of the best.

        Great way to see Halifax!
We did the tour of Historical Halifax today, and it was great. Paul was incredibly knowledgeable and provided a wealth of information. It was great to go to some lesser known locations, and the video provided in the van was a terrific addition. Paul's communication for setting up the tour was very fast, and we appreciated that there was ample room on the van. There was a nice mix of driving and walking around. He also was made it very efficient to stop and have lunch/dinner by having us pre-order. I would highly recommend this tour when you are in Halifax.

Best tour ever...... Our tour guide Paul, also the owner, was fantastic. He knows so much about the area that you will definitely learn something new. He takes you to some off the beaten path sites and tells you about all the history of the area. Definitely I would recommend this tour.

A Well-Crafted and Thoroughly Enjoyable Exposition of Halifax
Viator/Tripadvisor included Halifax Titanic Historical Tours among recommended things to do while in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I had two days to explore the city and signed up for the tour. It was time very well spent. Our local guide, Paul, confirmed the reservation with an email that explained how, where, and when to meet him. He arrived a few minutes early and was waiting when I met him at the Hotel Halifax, where I was staying. After picking up a couple from Ontario we got started on what would be about a six-hour tour. First thing, and most important to me - Paul was a careful, courteous driver. He knew the roads in Halifax very well, having offered this tour for more than 10 years. The vehicle, a Ford Transit 350 XLT Medium Roof 15 Passenger Van was spacious, comfortable, and had a great field of vision for all of us, no matter which side of the vehicle we were on. He watched the crosswalks, yielding the right of way to pedestrians, and sharing the road with care. Next, it was easy to understand what Paul was saying (he used a headset microphone). He supplemented his comments with very cool clips from a Canadian Broadcast System historical series, offering graphic supplements to his narrative. With the research and preparation that he built into the tour, we could get a preview of sites we were to visit through these clips. He also saw to it that we had timely restroom breaks and the opportunity to visit local crafts shops, and provided a lunch break where he thoughtfully called in our orders a few minutes ahead of time, so that our food was ready upon our arrival (near the ferry on the Dartmouth side of the river). The locations he chose were clearly selected with care. Foremost were sites directly relating to two historic events - the sinking of the Titanic (and the role Halifax played in recovery and rescue efforts), and the conflagration on December 6, 1917, when the SS Mont Blanc and SS Imo collided, with the Mont-Blanc carrying 2,925 metric tons of explosives destined for the French war effort. Paul demonstrated a profound understanding of the scale of both tragedies, and brought us to the locations memorializing these events. These included cemeteries honoring the passengers lost from the Titanic's sinking and memorials to those lives lost from the Mont-Blanc explosion. There was more to the tour, of course. We were able to walk through the beautiful Halifax Public Gardens. We learned of the extraordinary efforts that went into "the Big Lift," where workers raised the height of the Macdonald Bridge spanning Halifax Harbor connecting Halifax with Dartmouth, NS. Paul explained the role of what now is known as the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, diving into the history of Halifax's settlers. He brought us up to witness the noontime firing of the Citadel's cannon and the changing of the Highlanders Guard. We saw Dalhousie University and the University of King's College, learned about the role Halifax plays in global maritime trade and transportation. And we met some of the craftspeople at Fisherman's Cove in the Eastern Passage. Throughout the tour, Paul was affable, interesting, and very considerate both as a driver and a tour guide. While I've toured Halifax in the past, and appreciate the interest in seeing the lighthouse at Peggy's Cove, I found the time on the Halifax Titanic Historical Tours was really much better spent. I would add that Halifax is host to hundreds of cruise tours each year; and each of those cruises bring hundreds of visitors to the city. Having a guide like Paul McNeil is, in my view, vastly superior to tours where the numbers are high and logistics are not nearly as nimble and adjustable as Paul's tour was for us today.

I would highly recommend this tour if you want to learn about and see more of the city of Halifax Nova Scotia, our guide Paul was extremely knowledgeable. The tour takes you all around Halifax and with a visit to Dartmouth and Fisherman's Cove. Paul's photos and videos on a large screen provide more information and background on the places we passed or visited. A great tour thank you Paul.

        FANTASTIC Tour
Our tour guide, Paul McNeil, was absolutely amazing and gave us an informative tour in a small group (only 7 people), which made it so much better than other tours we took on the same trip where there were up to 100 people on a bus. His commentary and the videos and photos he showed in the van as we went to the various stops on the tour added to our knowledge and enjoyment. Having gone on other tours where the guides disseminated information that was not accurate, and as a contributing writer of historical articles myself, I did my own research on returning home and was amazed that everything Paul told us was spot on. We visited the Halifax Gardens, both Titanic cemeteries, had lunch at a spot frequented by locals, visited a fishing village not on the typical tourist radar, and made a stop at the Halifax Disaster Memorial as well as time to see the cannon go off at noon. Best tour we had on our cruise and highly recommended.

        Titanic Tour to remember
Great Tour, A LOT OF INFORMATION! I wish I had time to get a few questions in but I know he had a lot to share. I wish we had a few places where we could have stopped for a bit more shopping options. The lunch place we went to was okay, although there was a little marker with a lot of little vendors there. The shooting of the cannon was wonderful until the other bus driver stood in front of our picture-taking options. The respect that Paul has for the Titanic graves is so impressive and I LOVED it. He explained little facts and details that were very special and informative. I would highly suggest his tours. He takes pictures for you at beautiful areas and shows you how to get the most our of your excursion. Thank you for a wonderful time and for being an excellent guide.

        Great Historical Tour of Halifax
Highly recommend this tour if you want to learn more about the city of Halifax. Our guide, Paul, was very knowledgeable, and I learned so much. The tour takes you around Halifax, Dartmouth, and Fisherman's Cove, and there is a lunch stop at a very good seafood restaurant. Paul's photos and videos provided more information and background on the places we passed or visited. Would recommend if you just have a day in Halifax or if you just got to Halifax and want a good introduction to the city and its history.

        Loved this Tour.
We were on a cruise of New England & Nova Scotia with 6 Port stops. We enjoyed Paul's tour the best out of the 6 different tours we went on. He was knowledgeable, helpful efficient and extremely prepared. We got in ahead of the crowds at each location because he knew exactly when to be at each stop. Paul minimized wasted time while maximizing the experience of each place. His knowledge was deep and wide and he had slides and videos to add to what we were seeing. I would do it again. Loved seeing greater Halifax with Paul. Totally worth the cost.

Paul McNeil was very thorough, professional, and punctual. The communication in setting up the tour was excellent. The van was comfortable. We enjoyed a complimentary water bottle and enjoyed pictures and documentaries during our long rides in the van. We drove 90 minutes one way to Lunenburg, where we had 90 minutes for lunch and a brief time to walk around the pier and to shop. We ate at the Shaker of Salt Deli and really enjoyed it. We drove through Mahone Bay and stopped briefly to snap pictures of some churches, and then we had another long drive to Peggy's Cove. Unfortunately, from my seat, it was difficult to enjoy the scenery along the way. The documentaries we watched during the long drives were very interesting. We had an hour at Peggy’s Cove, where it was raining. Paul was very considerate in offering us umbrellas and in making the pickup convenient for us due to the rain. I was disappointed that we didn’t get to drive by the Citadel and Town Clock for a picture. He did an excellent job of getting us back to our cruise ship on time.

Excellent tour! We were visiting from out of province -- family of 5 with 3 kids in their 20's-and this tour was a great way to see some spots away from Halifax. Paul is a proud ambassador of Nova Scotia and is an excellent tour guide: professional, fun and personable. We will definitely do another of his tours on return visits to NS! Enjoyed lunch at a great local restaurant The Knot Pub in Lunenburg that was recommended by our Haligonian friends.

Paul is great at his job and very responsive during the time I booked the tour with him. He gave detail information of the sites we visited and managed the time very well. He also has a TV in his van so we can watch video and learn more about Halifax during the long drive to and from Peggy’s Cove. I would join another tour with Paul the next time I visit Halifax.

An informative small group tour with Paul as an expert guide. Paul will pick you up from your hotel, drive you the most scenic routes, and provide local insight and history. On our tour he beat the big bus tours to Peggy’s Cove so that our group of six were the only ones there (almost) and despite the fog, made it a great day out. If you only have one day travelling outside of Halifax, I’d really recommend this tour!

The tour went to Peggy's Cove and Lunenberg, a resorty harbor town, home of the Bluenose racing schooner. Our driver and guide, Paul, did an exceptional job fleshing out these locations in terms of cultural, historic, and and social significance. Anecdotes, advice for photo shots, videos in the van were very helpful. He was easy to hear and listen to. Paul has a schedule and he sticks to it! It flows well. We got to Peggy's Cove before the bus loads of other tourists arrived allowing for photos of the lighthouse by itself. Luneneberg was a great place to have lunch and walk around afterwards. I love a tour-guide like Paul because I learn so much about the area.
He also discussed in detail the Halifax Explosion and we learned some new ideas about the Titanic sinking.
I would highly recommend any of Paul's tours to augment your time in NS and Halifax.

I took this tour because I didn't want to drive. I am glad I did because I would not have seen as much if I had gone on my own. There were 6 of us in a 15 seat van so there was lots of room. Paul goes to Lunenburg first, opposite of other tours. He has a very interesting video on the 1917 Halifax explosion to show on the 45 minute drive to Lunenburg so the time passes quickly. Lots of time in each stop and lots of good information. He is a great tour host and takes note of what each person is interested in. Because he does the trip in reverse to other tours, crowds tend to be less.
This is a small operation dedicated to personal service. Don't panic if you don't hear back right away. He generally returns phone calls and emails in the evening so that his tours get his full attention during the day.

We took 2 tours with Paul - South Shore and the Annapolis Valley. We enjoyed both days with Paul and he gave us some wonderful history and toured us to some beautiful spots. He also had some excellent suggestions for lunch. We would definitely book with Paul again. Theses tours allowed us to see much more of Nova Scotia than we expected during our relatively short time there. We also arranged for Paul to take us to the airport on the day we left - a very comfortable trip in his Lincoln.

Paul was very punctual, informative and easy to spend the day with. While billed as a half day we were gone for 7 hours each day so we packed a lot of things in during the tours

The tour couldn`t have been better. Paul, the tour guide, was very knowledge about the local history of Halifax, and took us to some unplanned stops like this roadside lobster shop, which was definitely a treat. The tour allowed more than enough time to explore Peggy`s Cove and Lunenberg, with a good lunch break in Lunenberg for some lobster rolls. After the tour was done, Paul went out if his way to show me couple spots I wanted to go in Cole Harbour, just amazing!

The tour was very informative but at times, the tour guide relayed such a variety of information and at times spoke very quickly, and we missed the significance of the places that we stopped at. There was an added feature of historical videos which not only passed the time, but added to the backstory of Halifax. Peggy’s Cove was extremely busy with tourists.

Thank you Lynnea B for taking the time to review your Tour of Nova Scotia's South Shore...We’re usually known for our exceptional Tours and we regret that we didn’t live up to those expectations during your Tour of Lunenburg, Mahone Bay & Peggy's Cove...My Apologies...If you’re open to discussing this further, just text me at (902) 292-6780 and I will return with a call or Email paul@halifaxtitanictours.ca ... I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to make things right and work toward earning back your business if you ever have a chance to visit Halifax again...Hoping I didn't lose those elusive Two Bubble/Stars because Peggy's Cove was extremely busy with Tourists...That's every day at Peggy's Cove...
