Inexplicable happenings and spooky fun at Black Creek Pioneer Village
I’ve done most of the haunted walks in Toronto, Kingston and Ottawa and enjoyed them all. A great way to learn some history, get some exercise and hear spooky stories. Last night was atmospheric for a walk around the old buildings at Black Creek Pioneer Village, with a bright beautiful moon and chill in the air. I haven’t experienced anything on any of the prior walks, but odd things started in the very first building we entered when a chain that blocks off entrance to a bedroom started swinging back and forth on its own while the guide was talking. Nobody was near it at the time. Then in the “Minister’s house” I was the last person to enter and had to close the door. I paused to look around while doing so. There were only 4 of us in the group plus our guide and everyone had already moved on into the house to the right when I heard a loud bang in the room to my left, which is blocked off. It sounded like someone banging their fist on a desk or table and I thought someone had gone around to prank me. However, no one had, and there wasn’t another way into the room. I tried to re-create the sound, looked for a fallen item etc but couldn’t figure out what made the noise. The third odd thing is a photo I took in front of a house. All the photos I took turned out fine, except for one that came out a bit blurry despite taking in in the same way as the others. This photo shows a blue streak of light and what looks like a horse galloping out of the front door. All in all, an entertaining evening!

I loved the Haunted Walk with Clarice!
Clarice was my tour guide and she was great. I was the only one on the Haunted Walk tour (seeing as it is mid-November I wasn’t too surprised) but it was really such a great experience. It was immersive, interesting, and I learned a lot. The stories really made you think about the histories of the buildings. As a paranormal enthusiast, I had such a great time and I can’t thank Clarice enough. I will definitely be going back!

    Nothing scary about this walk.
There is nothing scary about this haunted walk. Waste of money honestly. Y’all shouldn’t even charge this much for just a storytelling.

    Amazing!
My boyfriend and I came here for the 6:15 PM Ghost tour! Our tour guide, Mia, was incredible and very nice. She would always state facts in response to the comments that some of the guests made. For instance, in the Burwick house, as you reach the top floor, it gets very hot. Some guests were curious about this, and Mia explained that pioneers built their homes in a way to insulate heat. I appreciated Mia “debunking” certain feelings/situations as to show that not everything experienced should be passed off as paranormal. However, when we were in the Manse house, Mia’s lantern began to randomly flicker, dimming and then shining bright. She said that it must be dying batteries, but her lantern was fine everywhere else outside the Manse house. I kept thinking about that throughout the tour. Because I have never myself experienced any sort of ghostly activity, I tried to keep an open-mind and anticipated that if I were to witness anything, that I would attempt to debunk it. While touring the church, Mia explained that people have witnessed orbs floating in the cemetery. I was not nervous, or panicking when she said this as I know that can affect how people begin to perceive/see things thereafter. I just absorbed her information and we moved along. When we toured the cemetery from the front gate, I was shining my flashlight that was given to us for the tour, towards the tombstones, and I had randomly seen a random ball of whitish/blue light float down from a tree near the front of the cemetery all the way down to the front gate. Now, I tried to keep mouth shut about it because I didn’t want people to think that I was reacting just to “react.” But, I could not stay quiet, because the natural human response to seeing something unexplainable is to say “What the f-!” Lol. I promise you guys that this was not dust, a bug, a leaf, or car lights. I also thought about it possibly being someone else’s flashlight, but I debunked this. A flashlight being shone out does not form a perfectly round circle mid-air, unless it has something to reflect off of in the background. In which this case, the cemetery was open field. Everyone’s flashlights just casted a wave of light, not small round circles. This orb was perfectly spherical and moving on its own accord, despite the wind (the wind would affect the direction that a bug or leaf would move, and the car lights would have had nothing to reflect off of, this was floating in mid air) as it had randomly appeared from the tree and had floated down to the front gate and disappeared. When I had seen it, I froze and said “Oh my God! I just seen something float down!” Mia turned to me and asked what was it, and I explained as above. She assured me that she believed me and encouraged me to continue to keep an open mind. I continued shining my light, but it did not reappear and I can affirm that I had definitely seen a spirit orb. I did not feel afraid or nervous, it just felt surreal and I took that experience home with me. Thank you Mia for such an amazing tour! 5 stars! 😊

    Great experience!
Jack is a wonderful storyteller and answered all of our questions. We had a great time! We even experienced noises and the chain swinging upstairs in the Stong home.

    Soft spirits
Good informative tour, friendly guide, lots of history and insights into 19th century Toronto society. It was engaging and fun, but not spooky. The distillery is a wonderful site with lots of benign ghost anecdotes but few murders or truly morbid stories.

    Creepy but fun!!!
We had a great time. Clarice was a great guide and made sure to make it extra scary by inviting ghosts to join us. We even seemed to have captured one on camera. This one was by the cemetery. And no one was there in front of the camera.

    Just Okay
The tour/stories wasn't as scary as I'd hoped. Lots of historical facts but I came for the spooks! Plus there were other group members that kept talking and laughing throughout the tour guide's presentation.

    A spooky and enjoyable tour!
My spouse and I have done 3 haunted walks over the years and this one was by far the best. Our guide Kate was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and a great storyteller. Since this tour involves going into the buildings and exploring, the probability that you will experience something unexplained goes up by orders of magnitude. Everyone in our group heard a loud bang when there was absolutely no one upstairs, which was something that even the most die hard skeptic would be hard pressed to explain. I would definitely revisit this tour again next year, and would like to make it an annual tradition. Two thumbs up!

    Cute tour, fun stories
Cute tour with fun stories. Our guide Zack was personable and friendly. He gave great directions for us to get back too!! We did the 8pm tour, the area really shuts down between 7-8 so if you are hanging for the 9pm your waiting options will be very limited. As tourists we really weren’t aware of that. But it also means you aren’t fighting w crowds to go along your route or hear your guide.

    Lauren is the Best Guide!
Last night a large group of us went to the Black Creek Pioneer Village Haunted Walk and IT WAS AWESOME! Lauren is a phenomenal guide, enlightening us with chilling tales of the past while guiding us through the present. Lauren is a brilliant story teller, captivating in their approach, adding humour and gravitas to the stories. They had us on tender hooks as we walked throughout all of the old buildings! This was an amazing experience that myself and 19 other adults did for my birthday. Definitely a unique, active experiences I won't soon forget! Honestly, it was so wonderful and the best way to spend a night, being educated AND scared with friends! Thanks Lauren!

A walk into the past... with atmosphere cranked to the max setting
My wife and I along with our 11-year old twin girls recently took part in the Toronto distillery district haunted walk as part of a birthday present for me from my wife. That said, here was our takeaway. ARRIVAL/LOCATION: For those who’ve never been to the distillery district in Toronto, it’s an area of the city dripping with atmosphere, and the perfect place to take in a ghost walk. With a history dating back well over 150 years into the past, paranormal occurrences are reported to be not all that uncommon here (a couple security guards I once spoke with said they’ve seen/heard many things they can’t fully explain). On this particularly night, being a warm summer Saturday, the district was abuzz with activity, restaurants and bars in full swing, and lots of people just looking to take in an evening stroll. Our tour group met outside the main gates, and was very easy to find. You simply can’t beat the distillery for atmosphere, five stars here. TOUR LEADER/GUIDE: Kit was an absolutely all-star and phenomenal guide. Donning the iconic black cloak and lantern in hand, they met us at the gate right on time and began the tour as soon as the head count was made. Our group that night was in and around 15 of us, so intimate enough not to feel overcrowded. Kit then lead us through the streets, down back alleys and past store fronts, enthusiastically regaling us with stories from the past, while painting a vivid picture of life back in the distillery’s heyday, and animating many of its many characters… some of which were purported to still walk the streets… All in all, Kit is an epic storyteller, and considered ourselves lucky to have had them. Five full stars, they made the haunted walk what is was, and can tell Kit truly loves what they do. THE EXPERIENCE/WALK: There were many instances of ominous foreboding, interspersed with wide eyed fascination from our girls and an around general creepiness permeating the air throughout the walk. Kit took us to many interesting locations and stops, navigating the nooks and crannies of the distillery with a familiarity that was very apparent. Lots of chilling stories, and on this particular night, we experienced a first. Now my wife and I have been on several haunted walks, including an overnight stay at a haunted hotel in Arizona that was once a hospital, but never really came across anything that made us question what exactly we were experiencing. Without making this review twice the length that it is, all I will say is there is a store called ‘The Ordinary’ that we stopped at during the tour. And when several of us noticed one of the hanging lights moving from side to side among the dozens of lights around it remaining perfectly motionless, it made quite a few of us question our eyes and sense of what exactly we were witnessing. As one tour guest exclaimed as he walked off, ‘well I’m a believer now!’… After the tour, my wife and I along with our girls went back to that very storefront window, and there it was, still moving on its own (we took video this time). We stood there with mouths wide open, until security walked by and shuffled us on. And this is just one instance, with the security guards telling us of other bizarre instances they’d encountered over the years. THE BOTTOM LINE: After taking in a previous Haunted Walk in Kingston, Ontario, we thought it might be fun to try another closer to home. The distillery being an attraction unto itself, the walk is truly the cherry topper, especially as an after dinner stroll. A truly unique experience that will get you up close and personal with the area’s intriguing and sometimes sordid past, the walk’s guides (like Kit) are what make the walk what it is. Five stars, loved it, well done Haunted Walks, we’ll be doing Black Creek next!

    Spooky Fun!
My daughter and I went on this tour and it was really fun. Our tour guide Sarah was great and the stories were super interesting. Would highly recommend. The Distillery District is pretty at night and lots of great places to eat before or after your tour.

Must Do Pioneer Village Haunted Walk
I did my first Haunted Walk experience at Pioneer Village July 9, 2023 with Clarisse, and it was a great experience and getting to learn more about the village and the people who once and still live there! The stories and walk are fascinating, and I truly believe there are spirits there too. Clarisse was an amazing guide and very insightful and knew what she was doing and very respectful. She answered questions and told us about her personal experiences as well which was very interesting. I’m glad I had her doing my tour, she made the experience better. I’m going to now pay attention to the paranormal activity that may be around me!

A brilliant tour. Grace was a fantastic and informative tour guide who really knew her stuff and you could tell that she really enjoyed running the tours and sharing the haunted history of Toronto. Didn’t realise the tour was 90 mins rather than an hour but was glad of the extra time. It is a fair amount of walking so don’t book if you struggle with walking, but we had a fabulous time and would definitely recommend if you like a little spooky story. Would also recommend doing it earlier in your trip to see some new areas of Toronto and get some ideas about some more unique things you could do during your stay.

I heard about the Original Haunted Walk of Toronto from friends and I had to try it. I really enjoyed the walking tour and learning about the spooky occurrences at buildings I frequently pass. Our guide, Tori, was an amazing story-teller and navigated us expertly to each site. I highly recommend this fun and chilling tour.

This was a great way to get acquainted with the city, & trick myself into exercising. The guide was a skilled storyteller, made sure that everyone could hear her, & made everyone feel welcome. It was an easy walk, but we covered enough territory to get some great photos.

Tori was great in explaining the macabre and the unusual history in one part of Toronto - the area was contained enough to not have to rush place to place and accommodated a wide range of paces. Great history told in an interesting format, what’s not to love. Tori also made sure everyone in the group could hear her.

Really enjoyed the history of Toronto that I discovered on this tour. A lot of the stories had grisly themes but a good deal about the City as well. We went to some unusual parts of downtown where we wouldn’t have normally gone and we revisited these in the day. Very informative and a great guide in Ro.

Complete dissapointment and waist of money. Stories were neither interesting nor thrilling, just like some fairy tails I could come up with by myslef as no one can really check if this is based on facts or just was made up by the guide. The places we were going around did not look anyhow interesting and the stories didn't help to make them more fascinating. We never went inside any building, so it is really hard to call walking around Toronto downtown (when it's not even dark enough) some kind of spooky and misterious experience

Kate was our tour guide and she was so great at telling stories of each place we visited. She was funny, knowledgeable and a great story teller.
We always knew Toronto had history, but hadn’t really thought about the hauntings associated with that.
I had goose bumps more then once.
I would 100% do this again

We really enjoyed our ghost tour! It was a rainy night, which made it a bit more of a hassle walking through the streets of Toronto, but it was still great. I was hoping for more scares/scary stories, but the guide shared a lot of interesting stories about the locations and about Toronto.
