Anne of Green Gables Homestead Was Delightful; "City Tour" Was a Disappointment
I've wanted to see the Anne of Green Gables homestead for a long, long time, and our visit didn't disappoint--once we got there, that is. The "Island Drive" and tour was a disappointment, but had so much potential. We ended up on the bus of a woman who spouted a lot of incorrect facts (like telling us P.E.I. produced 25% of the world's potatoes where it's just 25% of CANADA's potatoes) and muttering things like, "I think that building coming up on the right is a laboratory or something?" Mainly she spent our long drive through this incredible landscape droning on about how little snow they got last year and how climate change and overuse of plastics were destroying the world, while she missed every opportunity to tell us about the island itself, and about L.M. Montgomery and her delightful stories and books (the whole reason we were on the tour). So the tour itself was awful, but the homestead was delightful and quaint, and the visitor's center at Anne of Green Gables offered a wonderful array of stories and artifacts about L.M. Montgomery's life and work. You do have to know and love the Anne of Green Gables stories to fully appreciate this excursion, though, so brush up (maybe even watch the movies!) before you go.

Good overview tour of Gables Museum/area
We went in October 2022. I would say this tour is worth taking if you have limited time to explore the Anne of Green Gables museum. The guide was very enthusiastic and informative and she shared her knowledge with us in a way that was engaging and enjoyable. The bus we took was clean and in good repair and everything was very comfortable. Unfortunately we could not walk on the beaches because the recent hurricanes eroded them so badly. That was honestly a huge disappointment because it’s one of the iconic things in the movie, that red sand. Not anyone’s fault but it would have been nice to at least stop and take pictures of the scenery. L. M. Montgomery’s books are so descriptive of scenery and it felt like we didn’t really get much of that on the drive. I also would have liked to stop at her gravesite. Maybe not everyone would do that but it felt like it would have been a nice spot to pause for a moment at. Having said all that, we were on a cruise and we’re grateful to have had at least a little taste of PEI while we were there. We hope to go back and spend more time really getting to know the place one day.

      Green Gables tour
Like others who have reviewed this tour, it would benefit from more than 1 hour at Green Gables- after all that is supposed to be the focus of the tour. There were two large cruise ships in Charlottetown on the day that I was booked for and there were long queues at Green Gables. After waiting in line to start the tour of the house, the large numbers meant that there were people also queuing behind and it was a quick shuffle through, rather than being able to take the time to see things properly. There is also no easy place to pick up lunch and at the one stop at Green Gables that had a cafe, there were limited options and again a long queue. So my recommendation for the company- allow for extra time at Green Gables. To those choosing the tour- take a packed lunch or snacks- and try to avoid cruise ship days!! I suspect that the timing of the tour and it’s duration is set to fit with the cruise ship schedules and this might be something to think about if you are not on the ships and are looking for a tour. The driver and tour guide was informative, pleasant and helpful and the bus was smaller than other tour buses I saw which made for a pleasant trip. Only downside of the bus was that the speaker system not functioning properly and kept cutting out. Overall I still enjoyed the day and the lovely scenery along the way!

      Rather boring tour
This tour was just okay. A bit disappointing. I wouldn’t spend the money on it. The best part was eating a beaver tail at Anne of Green Gables.

      Great tour offered through Shipmate
Great tour! The Anne of Green Gables house is a 45 minute ride from the cruise port. The house was really cute and they did a good job of accommodating huge crowds. Also had a nice place to purchase snacks. We also enjoyed the island tour and also visited the Prince Edward Island Preserve Co. They use Grand Marnier in their preserves and jams.

Donalda was one of the best tour guides I’ve ever had! She has an amazing wealth of knowledge and such great humor! The Preserve stop was delightful and the visit to Green Gables was all I had hoped!

      Glad we chose this one.
Our guide Donalda was wonderful. She was full of knowledge about the island and even had some funny jokes. Family of 6 went and we enjoyed it. The walk to get on the bus was close to the cruise terminal.

Very scenic on a sunny day. We found it very walkable and found some great shops at the Peaks Quay which is very close to the cruise port.
There is also some fantastic shops right inside the terminal. A lot of locally made items at reasonable prices. Highly recommend you take a peak if you have time.

I believe that this tour gave a good overview of the city and some of the suburbs. The driver was entertaining and humorous time well spent. The bus was older, and while the bus was quaint, it was somewhat uncomfortable, because the seats were not necessarily attached . Other than this, I think it was a trip worth taking.

We took the tour first day into our holidays and learned a good deal about the city and where we wanted to explore more! Our driver was very informative and provided ideas also of where to eat in the upcoming week. The bus does need a little upkeep though

Great tour. The driver was informative and entertaining, ticket agent welcoming and helpful. It was a good length, speed and coverage of the city. Very accommodating. One person in our party uses a walker and was very comfortable. Good value for money. I would recommend.

Very disappointing tour. We were in Charlottetown for several days & wanted a quick overview of the town & its history. We got neither. What we did get was a crowded old bus with no A/C & windows that would not open. It was stifling. The tour had slight mention of the history of Charlottetown, & the tour didn't go through very much of the old historic part of the city. We could tell that the other passengers were disappointed. I think a walking tour of the old section would have been better. We can't recommend this tour.

We did the 1 hour tour around the town and surrounds.
The stop was easy to find at the cruise terminal.

We enjoyed the tour, guided by our bus driver Dean Martin.
After travelling for so long, it was charming to visit a town and see the suburbs where the "real people" live

It was easy to find the Prince Edward Island tour at the cruise ship terminal in Charlottetown PEI. We had booked ahead. The bus was small which was very welcome & we got a good seat for viewing. Our guide was very knowledgeable & easy to understand. This is a big plus as my husband is hearing impaired. The sites were interesting & the guide explained the area. A very good experience.
