The Tour was ok and we enjoyed Quebec. We only had 25 Min at the Falls and both the Bus Driver and the Guide were repeatedly begging for Tips.

    Good but bus troubles.
Great driver and tour guide. Very informative and a good overall view of the city. Unfortunately we had bus troubles. It would stall out several times. We even had to have a bus mechanic and have a look.

    Great tour
The tour guide was great and enthusiastic. Lots of puns and facts about Montreal. The driver was safe and helpful. They showed many parts of the city and didn’t only show the touristy parts of the city.

A very quick overview of Montreal but with a bit too much unwanted commentary
We took the tour on 04.26.24. In many ways, it was really good. However, a few comments by the guide, overshadowed the rest and I'd like you to know about them. Obviously, the guide has superior knowledge of Montreal and a bubbly personality. But here are my problems: He said at a market stop that there were washrooms, men and women "and no in-between.". With a wrinkled-up face. The guide should be told that non-binary people are well aware of places that don't accommodate them without his highlighting it with his insensitive remarks. He also made a number of insensitive / gratuitous comments about gay people. Example: describing a part of Montreal where many gay people live, he said "do we have to refer to it as the gay village?. Then went on to discuss gay-inhabited areas in 2 other cities, one of them the Castro district of San Francisco. "We don't call it the gay Castro district?. He then made some (trying to be funny references to Fidel Castro being gay? When told by a participant that Fidel's brother is gay he said "Shame on him!!". Why all this unnecessary preoccupation with gayness by the guide?? It's not witty or welcome. Finally, he said " no, I won't say it. That would be racist.....". Then went on anyway to describe a quick snapshot as a Japanese snapshot. Saying "no, I won't say it, that would be racist" doesn't cancel that it is, in fact, a stereotyping and inconsiderate thing to say. Saying you have many Japanese friends and they agree that this (stereotype of Japanese people) is true doesn't make it ok. Why do it????? The guide has tons of personality to wow visitors without these kinds of remarks. I'm not writing this to convince you not to take the tour. I'm actually hoping that Gray Line sees this and helps the guide to do better. I tried emailing them first and my email was rejected. I actually hope an otherwise very good guide can be made a better one for all visitors to Montreal (not just straight white cisgender ones).

    Very Nice Indeed!
Yes, you’re on a tour bus. I say that because it was not too abundantly clear if that were the case when I initially read the description; and there are a number of walking tours. It rained the day that my husband and I did the tour, so it was a perfect day to be on a bus as opposed to being stuck inside somewhere. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and easygoing. You didn’t feel overwhelmed nor bored with the information that she shared. The bus driver was personable and delightful. It was just the right amount of time designated, appropriately 3 1/2 hours, or so…not too long nor too short. We covered a lot of ground in that amount of time and got to see a lot of Montreal. There were opportunities to get off the bus and take pictures at certain points of interest. We even stopped at a market to buy fresh fruit, baked goods, coffee, etc. I would recommend this tour if you want a good overview of the city without having to commit your entire day.

Canada is fantastic, exceptional and unique. I have trekked the landscapes and they are marvellous and look likes a nordic country. I have visited Montreal and this city is incredible with his monument. The package offered by TripAdvisor is awesome. It's not too expensive and perfect for a family of four. I have travelled to Canada before, but this is like discovering a new country. I highly recommend it.

It’s a good trip to get the layout of the city but after the first couple of stops they really run out of interesting things to say and you spend a long time on the coach just heading for the Olympic park and some run down areas Our guide was ok but the driver continually interrupted and took over His joke about Murder rates in the city was in poor taste He said we had on last week so your safe to walk around for the next three weeks . You don’t want murder jokes on a tour as I say you do get a good idea of the city bu5 at only one stop do you get guide commentary the rest is mostly driver rambling telling not funny jokes One final point I know this is a French speaking city and the arrival of the British was not welcome but if your a guide giving historical information you need to understand where people come from French came from France English came from England Scots came from Scotland You don’t say British and Scottish settled here . British is the combination of the home nations someone who is Scottish is also British It’s correct to say the English and Scottish settled here

The Cathedral was the only thing worth visiting.
The Cathedral was good but otherwise there didn't seem to be much to see. There were lots of roads being dug up and the pavements were very poor with quite a lot of litter around.

What an incredible day it turned out to be!
Traveling alongside our companion was a joy as they kept us engaged throughout our journey to various destinations. Despite the initial uncertainty in the weather, it cleared up beautifully by the time we reached our first destination. Montmorency Falls left us spellbound, and Quebec City captivated us with its charming atmosphere! When we met our tour guide, we were impressed by her extensive knowledge of the area. With a friendly demeanor and a hint of humor, she shared captivating insights into Quebec's history, making our experience both educational and enjoyable. All in all, it was a remarkable day brimming with unforgettable moments.

The guide and driver were both very kind and knew the city and its history. Just what we were looking for as an overview of Montréal.

Excellent introduction to Montreal. The driver, Richard, was also the narrator and was fun to listen to, informative and the volume made it easy to hear him above the city noise. We only used one day due to the weather but the cost was the same that we paid in Quebec for one day so a good value.

Montreal is a wonderful city filled with beautiful sites, fascinating history and great culture.  I travel a lot, in cities around the world.  I always find that those red double decker "ho on/ hop off" buses are a great way to get a sense of the city's layout and help prioritize what you want to see.  So I was please to see the ad for Graylines "hop on" bus tours - a two hour total ride winding through Montreal.
This was the worst experience I've ever had with this kind of tour bus.
First, don't be fooled by the information you get online. If you buy tickets online, you still have to show up at the main starting point in person, stand in line (30 people in front of us, about 30 minutes to process) and then get a wristband for everyone in your group.  And THEN you have to stand in another line to board the bus!.  The company has decided that wristbands are easier for them to manage than a cell phone code.  Even if it is many times more difficult for customers.
You will get a map that has the routes and stops.  I went on three buses with three different guides.  Sometimes the buses follow the routes.  Sometimes not.
I was unlucky with the first bus.  The guide had to deliver his script in both English and French as we drove past sites.  The bus didn't go slower.  The passengers just missed about half of the script.  Sometimes he had to jump between French and English in the same sentence.  Hard to hear and understand and it must have been awful for him.
Then it started pouring rain.  Not Grayline's fault.  We all squeezed into the bottom, enclosed, level - dripping wet and standing in the aisles.  Those things happen.  We did not expect that the bus would have broken windows that would not shut.   We wondered what other vehicle maintenance might be missing.
The tour guides were very different and I'm sure very capable.  The management and operations of the Graylines daytime tours is so subpar, it leaves a wide open opportunity for competitor companies to come in and give Montreal tourists the experience they deserve.

As a Montrealer, my experience with the "hop on hop off" tour of my own city was rather disappointing. I was expecting this tour to provide me with a fresh perspective on my hometown, but unfortunately, that didn't materialize.
First and foremost, I found the ticket price to be excessively high, especially considering the fact that I already knew a significant portion of the information provided by the onboard tour guides. As a Montreal resident, I expected more in-depth and intriguing details that I couldn't easily find on my own.
The stops were poorly organized, leading to delays and confusion as well as the time table schedule completely off track.
Regarding the itinerary, I felt it lacked diversity. Most of the stops seemed to focus on downtown areas of Montreal, and as a resident, I would have appreciated more opportunities to explore less-visited neighborhoods and places that are less frequented by tourists or even have the possibility to go to the Olympic stadium and Botanical garden!!!
In summary, as a Montrealer, the "hop on hop off" experience fell short of my expectations. The high price and lack of original informative content left me wanting more. I would recommend visitors to Montreal to explore the city through more authentic and enriching means.

It is very expensive as you can only buy a 2 day ticket , we did a full tour of 2 hrs to see where we could get on or off, turned out they don't really stop near any attractions, (not that there is much to see in Montreal) they point out the attractions , the guide on the day mentioned the Tudor houses as being German styled, Tudor reign is British. But the worst part is that the guide practically begs for tips and stands with his hand outstretched as you leave the bus, I know it is a tipping culture and would have tipped had the guide not tried to humiliate me because I waited for my husband to leave the bus first. So no tip was given.

Disappointing tour from an experienced tour line.
Grayline has no map of the stops available online and the stops are not physically marked on the street either.

Once on the tour, you discover that certain stops are temporarily closed and some are relocated- again, no information regarding the closures or stop relocations online or on the physical maps given on the bus.

Ok, we’re finally on the bus after extra time planning the trip- and we’re subjected to a tour guide who thinks VERY highly of himself.

He chose to spend 50% of the time bloviating about the people he knows at various shops along the route and the places in Europe he has been, rather than the actual history and culture of Montreal.

We didn’t bother finishing the loop, and will not be back for the second day either.

Just terrible.

The tour was disappointing. We did get to see many parts of the city, but the guide (Robert) was French and spoke only very briefly in English, and much more extensively in French, so we English speakers didn't really get much of the history or importance of each area. That should be more balanced, as the guide is all important in this type of tour. It was raining and he recommended not getting off at the stops, which was the whole reason we took this tour, as an easy way to manage our touring and get break times at sites that our 7 year old would enjoy. The bus was full and no one got off, so anyone waiting at a stop was out of luck and had long waits, which would have been terribly frustrating. The tour company can't predict the weather, but should either make it clear at booking that a tour would be in mostly in French or English, or have guides who be sure to speak to each equally; and also should manage the group size better so there will be adequate service for those who do get on and off as intended. For us, it turned into a long morning of relatively little value.

What a shambles. Bus no.1: we got on as directed. When it was full we were told to board the bus behind, as were the people waiting for the next bus.
Bus 2: Commentary was peppered by guides personal views. 2 stops were reversed, and one missed altogether. We sat for 15 minutes outside the Musee des Beaux Arts whilst the "Inspector" collected money. Bus 3: The driver and guide had a full blown argument in view of the passengers. Bus 4 the guide was so laid back he was horizontal - literarily. He was lying across 2 seats upstairs. He also made inappropriate comments. We have been on hop on/off buses in many cities and this was our worst experience. Bus stops are not clearily marked.

There are no signs telling you where a hop on bus stop is located. We walked up and down trying to find the stop and had to ask several people and then finally we called the company. The map we got for the tour from the hotel was sad, you can hardly read it and the scale is difficult to interpret which adds another difficulty in trying to find the place to get on. After about 30 minutes of the tour and half the stop’s promised we were all kicked off the bus and told we had to wait another 30 minutes for the next bus, while there another hop on bus pulled up discharged it’s passengers and they got on the bus we were on. Sure not sure why they were privileged. We finally got to old Montreal on a separate bus and once again after exploring we tried to find the stop to get back on. After much up and down the street due to no signs and waiting 30 more minutes we see a bus coming from opposite direction, which the map does not indicate so we crossed and got on it as we were afraid we never see one coming from the direction their map indicated. After 5 minutes we realized they went from stop 2 to stop 4 and were certainly not going to take us the the rest of the stops we did not see. So we saw half of what was promised and paid for and this tour was not inexpensive. We are intensely disappointed in our experience.

I booked this tour online. We’ve done hop on hop off tours in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Paris and Bruges, Belgium. It’s a great way to see all the highlights of a city in a couple of hours. This is the first time we had any difficulty finding a pickup point.

We wanted to get on at Quartier Des Spectacles. When we got there, we looked everywhere for signage to show where to get on the bus but couldn’t find any. After waiting 20 minutes (the busses are supposed to run every 15 minutes) I started a chat with the tour operator. They asked me if I was at Rue Bleury and Rue de President Kennedy which was a 10 minute walk from where we were. We got there and shortly after were able to board the bus but again, no signage as to where to board…we just happened to see the bus and ran to catch it.

The first guide we had was very good but after a few stops, they made us get off and get on another bus. The guide on that bus was terrible…you could barely understand what she was saying and she pointed out points of interest after we passed them so it was impossible to get pictures. It was so bad that we got off and waited for the next bus.

We definitely wouldn’t recommend this tour in Montreal.

We usually take a hop-on hop-off the first day in a new city to orient ourselves. The tour in Montreal was horrible. First, we weren’t told that we weren’t going to two of the stops, of which one was the most popular, Mont Royal. Second, the tour guide kept talking about his son and his money attending an expensive school. Third, we couldn’t understand most of what he was saying, other than “I am the tour guide” and about his son. We ventured from the map route making it hard to figure out where we were! A waste of our time and money.
