    Great Walking Tour
Great tour. Guide was extremely knowledgeable, and gave us a fascinating view of Jewish History in Montreal. I would highly recommend this tour. Knowledge and some exercise all in one package. I would definitely take this tour again.

Wonderful thought-provoking tour of Le Plateau neighborhood, Montreal
My family and I loved this tour. We learned a great deal and it was so interesting to be ensconsed in one particular neighborhood and understand how Jews flocked to the neighborhood and ultimately thrived there. We felt like we were really a part of that time and place. Our guide (don't know her name - was on 8/17 in the afternoon) was terrific. She knew so much about the history and made it come alive. Highly recommend the tour!

Walk, talk, learn about Jewish history!
Romy was an upbeat, knowledgeable, and friendly tour guide. We learned a lot about the history of Jewish people and businesses in the area. Two hours was plenty of time, would not want it any longer. Thank you and we wish you well in your studies!

    Wonderful! Do it :)
We did a walking tour of Jewish Montreal and it was a wonderful way to learn and to meet other people interested in the topics. Our guide Claire was excellent, and somehow made it all feel like a walking party! Highly recommend!

A Great History and Present of Jewish Montreal
Great walking tour that tells a great story of Jewish Montreal. Katie was a great tour guide. Lots of history and some presently operating spots — good mix.

Excellent Historical Tour Of The Jewish Quarter of Montreal
Our knowledgeable and friendly guide, Romy gave us lots of interesting information about the history of the Jews in Montreal as we walked through key areas of the Jewish Quarter. She was open to questions and comments and was so fun to get to know! We learned so much from taking the tour and definitely recommend this activity to others visiting Montreal!

    VERY informative!!!
We like to check out Jewish stuff wherever we go and we found this tour online. We were four couples all in our 60’s and me in my 70’s. And all of us agreed that this tour was wonderful. Our guide, Romy, was incredibly well-informed. She brought along a binder with lots of pictures of the past. We learned a lot about the Montreal Jewish community past and present and the fact that Jews first arrived in the area in the 18th century. If you are not tremendously mobile, like me, this tour is fine. It is LONG…about 2 hours. But there are lots of stops and places to sit. Enjoy!!!!

    Informative tour - highly recommend
I highly recommend this informative tour. Our guide Kathy was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Even a pouring rain didn't spoil our experience :) If you are interested in this particular part of history - this is the tour to go on.

    Guide was not prepared.
Sunday Jul 2nd tour at 2pm was led by a guide who didn’t know the material. It was not the guide that previous reviews praised. Bad luck for us. Guide could not answer basic questions about the history. It might have been better for us to read the notebook she was carrying. The neighborhood is interesting to see. Ask for the previously praised guides before booking.

Tour Guide Was Not Knowledgeable Enough
The tour guide, a young woman, who did not let us know her name (she had curly, short dark hair), was not knowledgeable. Many of the people on the tour were asking relevant questions and she did not know the answers. She was also reading from a script. It is unfortunate, but I do not think the tour was worth the money.

Information and humour in just the right balance.
Our tour guide Ms. Seal, was excellent with just the right balance of knowledge, humour and information to keep us interested the whole way through the tour. Would recommend to visitors of any age or religion, or none, as an insight into the history of one of the many immigrant groups that gave settled in Canada.

The tour guide was a college student who read the entire tour off a script she carried with her. She didn’t know much beyond that script and mispronounced several Jewish words. For most of the stops, she went in and got the food for us, which we ate outside, sometimes in an alley next to smelly rotting garbage. The final stop was at a deli where we were each handed a sandwich, pickle, and can of soda, which we were expected to juggle and eat on a busy sidewalk. At only one stop were we allowed to go inside and sit down. I’ve been on better and more interesting food tours in other cities. Maybe save your money unless you have nothing else to do or just want to make a donation to the museum.

The information shared on this tour was interesting but a few things could be improved upon to allow for a more positive tour experience.
* We were not allowed to go into the various shops that we stopped in front of. The reason that was repeatedly stated by our guide is that we are a big group and couldn't go in. Maybe groups should be limited in booking size.
* Since we all paid almost $100 each for the tour there should be enough items to taste from each business. For instance my friends and I numbered 4 and we paid for 4 people yet we had to share 2 items while other people in our group received one each. Each business should provide the exact amount for the number of paying tour participants.
* Items like hand wipes and ziploc bags should be provided for each participant.

The actual route was interesting and provided great insight into the history of the neighbourhood. Our guide was friendly and enthusiastic about the Jewish history in the neighbourhood.

Sad to say that this was possibly the worst food tour that I've ever been on. It was much too long, the guide read from a binder the entire time, and much of the food offered (as we mostly stood around on a sidewalk) was mediocre and packaged. Honestly, if they can't find or train engaging and knowlegable people to do this kind of work, they shouldn't be offering these tours. I felt like I wasted my time and money. I've been on many food tours and you typically stop at restaurants for bites and drinks, with commentary from the restaurant owners. And, the tour guide knows their stuff-that's a given. This was just ridiculous.

Dear guest, Thanks so much for this review! We are surprised to see that you were disappointed by the food tour. Usually the food provided during the tour is on point with Montreal's food scene and are tasteful too. We will definitely report back to our partners and will assess with our guide. I would highly recommend this tour! Our guide (Avery) was very friendly and knowledgable. We learned a lot about Montreal's history, and tasted many delicious foods. I was surprised by how MUCH food we were given. I was expecting a small sample at each stop, but at each place we had a full bagel/sandwich/baked good. There were baggies available to take what we couldn't eat. This worked out very well because we were driving home from Montreal after the tour, and we had enough snacks leftover for the car ride that we didn't need to stop for dinner! It was a really great way to try Montreal specialties, without having to wait in long lines at each stop. Also a great way to see the Mile End area and learn about the neighbourhood's past.

Note that the tour is 3.5 hours long. Because we were leaving right after, we drove to the area, but were unable to find parking for more than 2 hours, and had to move the car halfway through the tour. I would recommend walking or taking transit to the starting point of this tour (lesson learned!).

Took the tour in July, 2022. The guide was excellent, but your experience was poor. We didn’t go inside a single restaurant. Instead, we had to eat standing in alleys or benches on the street. Experience was poor and we felt like second class as we were told that restaurants/cafes didn’t have space for our group. If you are looking for a Jewish food tour, I wouldn’t recommend this.

Our family really enjoyed the Beyond the Bagel Tour. Layla was an excellent guide with amazing knowledge about Jewish history, food, and culture. The tour was 3.5 hours long so wear good walking shoes. Also, bring your appetite because we got full sized portions of items to try, not just bite sized samples. Highly recommended!

My wife and I had a fabulous time last week ( May 27th ) on our walking tour. Rachel was our guide and she was warm, welcoming, knowledgeable and an all around GREAT guide! We learned of the history of the Jewish people of Montreal as well as origins and variety of Jewish foods of the area. After close to three hrs we sampled three bakeries, the two most famous bagel stores St Vieteur's and Fairmount , Wolensky's for kosher Salami sandwich and Schwartz's deli of course for smoked meats. Our fellow tour members were a great group too and fun to kibitz with .

Lots of fun with Samira as our guide. She told us lots about the Jewish community and it’s history in Montreal. The food was terrific. Samira had it waiting for us, so no waiting in the long lines. It was nearly 4 hours with a small group of 5 people. We enjoyed it!
