An interesting tour covering the history of Jewish immigration and Jewish life in early Montreal and how the community changes over time.

Excellent guide. Interesting walk with much Montreal Jewish history, although the neighborhood has changed. It also provided a glimpse of Montreal outside the tourist zone. And it ended near Fairmont bagels!

Beyond the Bagel was beyond expectations. The leader was very knowledgeable about the subject matter and related topics about Jewish life in Montreal. She worked off a well-organized notebook, so even if you get someone other than Ella the key content can be presented. And the food was very good! If you don't eat beef, mention that in the registration allergy section so they can provide alternatives at the two delis. And they included a dairy item from a bakery between the deli visits, so if you are relatively strick in your kashrut you may want to hold that treat for later - the tour guide had bags for such needs and if you were too full to finish a treat!

Went on the “Exploring Hasidic Montreal: A Walking Tour” only one of a few offered this summer. Fascinating, interesting and in-depth tour of the history and life of Hasidic Jews in Montreal. The Musee offers excellent walking tours on a more regular basis. Definitely worth checking out to learn more about the Jewish history and culture of Montreal

We really enjoyed the tour. Our guide, A.J., was informative and lively. She gave lots of good info about the Jewish community and neighborhood. Since my grandparents lived there 1908 to 1920, I loved seeing it. The food samples were very generous and delicious.

Ella, our tour guide was fantastic. She was so knowledgeable and engaging. The food was delicious (and there was a lot of it) and we learned so much and saw parts of Montreal we would otherwise have missed. Highly recommend!

Our guide was a bright and earnest young man, but he had a memorized speech that he ran through so fast that it was hard to digest. Too much information and not enough anecdotal info or interesting stories. He also didn’t know how to pronounce some of the Hebrew words.

This was an awesome food tour! We leaned a lot about the history of the Jewish population in Montreal and tried some incredible food — bagels, babka, smoked meat sandwiches. There is a lot of walking so small kids might get tired but our teenagers loved it. Our tour guide Ella was really enthusiastic and had a lot of interesting historical tidbits to share.

Nicolas was sweet and informative, and the sites selected were fascinating. We especially loved seeing the high school attended by Mordechai Richler! We would never have wandered all the Mile End streets on our own. I never knew Canada had the same red scare as we had in the U.S.

The rabbis, writers, and radicals tour was great. Our guide was very knowledgeable and brought the former Jewish community community around St Laurent to life, including its feuds, its luminaries, and its daily life. It was a great way to get to know the city in a different way.

Was looking forward to this experience, seemed like most people really enjoyed it. We ended up leaving the tour early we were so disappointed. Spent most of the time standing in alleyways next to dumpsters outside of the shops/restaurants. The tour didn’t even involve going in the locations. The guide would go in and pick up the bagels (no choices, no cream cheese) while we stood outside. The first stop was a bakery (again, no plans to enter), where the guide already had a bag of 2 sample items, with no plans to actually enter the bakery. Then 2 bagel stops where we stood next to garbage in the alleys while she provided the background information. Then we went by 2 different restaurants, one of which was closed, and the other we simply stood outside and listened about the history with no plans to enter or even sample the food. The time spent walking from location to location was simply done in silence, and then 5 minutes of story telling/lecture outside the shop, with interesting information, and then on to the next location in silence. The tour was from 11-2 and there seemed to be no plans to actually eat anything of substance other than 2 small pieces of danish from the bakery and then a bagel from the two bagel shops. No sandwiches, no beverages other than the water we brought along, and quite frankly, for almost $100/person, ($300 for the 3 of us) we received about $5 of food each, making this experience grossly expensive. We went into the museum as well, simply to use the restrooms and refill our bottles from the tap/sink if we were so inclined! About 2 hours into our tour, after standing outside a very cool diner with no plans to sample or even enter the establishment, the 3 of us informed our guide that we were going to cut the tour short and have lunch at the diner. No effort by the tour company to reach out, find out why we left the tour early, offer any sort of discount/reimbursement, nothing. Am truly amazed at the number of highly rated experiences from others, we thought it was a colossal waste of time and very expensive for what it was. Exceedingly disappointed, would not recommend whatsoever, and quite frankly, feel embarrassingly ripped off for ~$300.

We were delighted to spend a few hours with Ella during our Jewish Food Tour of Montreal. What a great combination of local history intertwined with how Jews influenced Montreal. The information was on point and Ella delivered it so that we were informed and entertained at the same time. Loved all of the stops and wandering through the neighborhoods of the Plateau and Mile End. You are definitely stuffed when you are done with the tour. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Montreal.

This was the highlight of our trip to Montreal! Ella, our guide, was so knowledgeable and fun and made everything run so smoothly. The food was absolutely amazing and the history was such a great addition. I would highly recommend this tour!!

This was a delightful, interesting and tasty walking tour of the Mile End area. Avery, who led our group, was charming and so well informed about so much local Jewish history, not just the food stops. It was a positive pleasure.
