- thomecat0 contributionsGreat Personalized ExperienceOur guide Stacy was very personable , helpful and knowledgable. She tailored the tour by giving points of reference to our hotel and background.Written January 17, 2025
- tracejackson30 contributionsOur tour with Pierre was the best part of Montreal! Our family of four arrived slightly late, desperate for coffee, and with an injured party member. Pierre wasted no time in making us feel comfortable and welcome. He tailored the tour to our needs, answered every one of our endless questions, and provided unmatched insight into the city. One thing I observed on the tour told me all I needed to know about our guide: I've done a lot of walking tours, and I've never seen one where all of the locals knew and respected our guide as much as the locals respected Pierre. He's clearly a valued member of the community, which made the tour all the more fun. At the beginning of the day, all four of us were skeptical about a walking tour of Montreal in the -5°C weather. By the end, we all agreed it was the highlight. Thank you so much!Written December 21, 2024

- jegow0 contributionsMontreal - West or East Old Town -- you decide which is favorite!Walking tours of Ouest & Est (West & East) Old Montreal were very enjoyable. I was traveling solo, an older woman, finishing a cruise at Montreal. I wanted to see what Old Montreal was all about. The (2) 1.5 hour walking tours were perfect. Our guide, "Thomas", was very knowledgeable, humorous, timely, dependable and professional. The combination tour provided one hour break in-between morning walk and afternoon walk. At the conclusion of the morning tour, Thomas ended at a public building that provided restrooms and places nearby to quickly eat or shop. The start location for each tour was very easy to find, nearby the hotel I stayed at; Hotel Place D'Armes, which I'd also recommend. The tour helped me to feel safe and able to walk about later in the day/evening, to revisit restaurants and shops on my own. I would recommend the combination tour to learn about and appreciate Montreal's culture, history and embracable charm.Written November 1, 2024
- patriciapP6244EN0 contributionsWonderful Morning Exploring the Old CityMy husband and I had a Guidatour of Montreal with Sebastien. It was a beautiful day and he took us and our semi-private group around the Old City. He was wonderful. Very informative but also responsive to any and all questions. He also indulged us with a few treats along the way! It was the perfect introduction to the history and architecture of Montreal and I couldn't recommend it more, and Sebastien in particular.Written October 14, 2024

Her pace was comfortable and we saw all of the sites of the area. Her insights of the history and architecture were excellent. Well worth it as an introduction to Montreal.Written October 10, 2024
- michaelhE9457VD0 contributionsA genuine apology offered and accepted.I have previously left a poor review regarding my experience on this tour. On my return home I was contacted by telephone by the company who were most concerned and wished to apologise. This was genuinely expressed and demonstrated their efforts to provide good service. On this basis I am satisfied that my experience was most likely an isolated occurrence and a momentary lapse of judgement on the part of the tour guide. I am happy to say that the matter has been addressed and on this basis would recommend Guideatour.Written October 7, 2024

We have found that these walking tours are one of the best ways to learn the history of a city that you don’t know. You have the benefit of a talented guide, who is also someone who probably grew up and lives in the area. In our case our guide was Pierre. His intimate knowledge and professional presentation made the day most enjoyable. There is a lot of history packed into an area that is about a kilometer long, and a half kilometer wide. Pierre made that history come alive. You will also get the best advice on where to eat, and which areas to explore further. We signed up for the full tour. The three and a half hour investment more than paid for itself. The morning and afternoon sessions last about an hour and a half. You will take an hour break between to recharge and relax. In this way you explore both the east and west sides of Old Montreal. Booking the full tour saves money over booking the east and west tours separately.

Hello James!
Yes, Pierre is truly an attentive guide and we will be sure to pass on your thoughtful compliments to him.
Thanks also for pointing out that by booking both tours together, you can save money (whether you do them on the same day or not!).

History walking tour of Montreal was a very enlightening experience. I'm new to Montreal and wanted to know about it's heritage. I got this reference and ticket reservation from Trip advisor.
The tour was well managed. The guide was awesome. He took active interest in ensuring we had a great experience. The tour qas organized into small groups of about 10 people and two separate tours for eastern and western sides of old Montreal. I would recommend people to take both as it will give a complete view of the history and cultural legacy of the city.
I would suggest this tour as a starting point to anyone interesting in exploring more about Montréal and Canadian history and its cultural heritage.

I did both the East and West end tour of Old Montreal, and my guide, Martin, was very knowledgable and personable. During the West end tour, I was actually the only person who had signed up, so Martin ended up giving me a one-on-one tour of the city! Along the way, we had a great discussion about Quebec politics and history, which was super helpful since I'm taking a Canadian Politics course and had recently studied Quebec. Martin also gave plenty of recommendations for food and activities in the area. Overall, I feel like I learned a lot, and I can't wait to return to Montreal in the future, perhaps when it's a bit warmer!

We booked the tour based on the description that a tour of Notre Dame is included in the price. We were mistaken. Please take this into account when purchasing if you plan to see Notre Dame.
The guide was informative but lacked depth of historical knowledge of Old Montreal. She was very good at high level details but skimmed the rest. It seemed like it lacked structure. She was good but not great.
We were originally booked for both tours but decided to skip the West portion in favor of Notre Dame since it is missed in the advertised tour.

Bonjour 2690kw,
As of January 1st 2020, we do not include the Notre-Dame Basilica in the Old Montreal East and West tours. We are sorry that you were disappointed. We are aware that the change on the interface has not been made yet, but we are working to change it as soon as possible.
Thank you for taking the time to write a constructive review.

We did the afternoon only portion of this tour, as we already had experienced much of the area covered in the morning. Our guide Elise was fantastic, very knowledgeable and kept a good pace, sharing with us historical and architectural details of the various buildings and areas. She also gave great coffee shop recommendations! The highlight was taking us to the observation deck in the archaeological museum, which we were able to do because we had a smaller group; wonderful views of the port and surrounding areas. Great tour, highly recommend it!

Hi Kay,
Very happy you enjoyed the afternoon tour and some of the city's better coffee shops. (Recommending restaurants and coffee shops is an art!)
We will let Elise know she was appreciated.

Today I joined both East and West side tour for Old Montreal with Elise. She is really knowledgeable about the history of the city and is super fun explaining the history. She also made lots of recommendations for people from lookout at the Museum to restaurants to eat at. Highly recommend the tour if you want to learn more about the history of the city while getting your steps in.

We did both East ad. West walking tours. Sarah, was our guide on both tours. Despite the weather not cooperating for the first half, it did not dampen Sarah’s spirit and she gave a lively history of the East end first. This was a great review of the history of Montreal with a 90 minute easy walking trip around the area. It was delivered at a good pace ( our tour was in English)
The west half began about an hour break after the east tour. This is enough time for a bite to eat and plenty of places in old Montreal to try. The west tour accounted for some of the newer history and was more about the business side and development of Montreal.
Excellent way to get a feel of old Montreal and Sarah was very knowledgeable - and more importantly, local!

Our tour guide was absolutely amazing! He was informative, knowledgeable, and really made for the perfect tour. Some tour guides tell you more about their personal lives than the city itself. But this tour was exactly what i wanted. Cool facts, and history and origin of the city of Montreal.

This was a fantastic start to our Old Montreal family vacation. My wife and I have been to Montreal several times in the past but this was our first tour here. Taking a tour really opens your eyes to so many details that you would otherwise miss in a city with so much history. Our guide, Stacey was very knowledgeable and passionate about Montreal. We did the full 3-hour tour which included a nice break for lunch in between tours of the East and West sides. Our daughters had a terrific time and learned so much about the city. We also met a wonderful couple on the tour who made the experience even more fun and memorable.

We elected to take both the East and West tours which were 1 1/2 hours each, broken up with one hour for lunch. Our guide provided us with an overview of Montreal's history and went into detail depending upon where we were and what buildings we were looking at. Matthieu was a French speaking native of the area, but his English was perfectly understandable. We learned a lot of things that we didn't know. The walking isn't fast paced or difficult, however, there are cobblestoned streets in Old Montreal, so good walking shoes are a must.

The guides are very attentive to everyone's mobility status & there are frequent rest stops. However at the end of the tour you are walking down some steep streets so you may want to end your tour early if needed. If you decide to take the whole tour you can use the funicular to return to your starting place.
