A great tour with a knowledgeable and friendly guide.
We had a great tour with Thom. As well as telling us lots of interesting things about the underground city that he took us around, he was very knowledgeable about Montreal in general and was able to answer lots of questions both our group and others had. Highly recommended! Make sure you have lots of thinner layers even on a cold day, as the underground is actually quite warm, so too heavy a signle coat will leave you hot and bothered.

Very engaging and friendly guide. Tour was super interesting and filled with lots of history on Montreal's seedy underside.

    Great Tour
Underground Montreal can be confusing and it’s could be described as a number of shops and restaurants- not very interesting We decided on it because of all the snow outside Gabriela was our tour guide and she was excellent providing history in an informative and relaxed way She took her time and all our questions and the underground city came alive Thank you Gabriela We even went back to the end point on Sunday for a coffee and watched the ice skating

I loved it and recommend this walking tour to anyone else
I had such a good time on this waking tour. I thought I knew a lot about the Sin City nature of Montreal, as there have been books on it etc., but the guide was so knowledgeable about the area there wasn't enough time for her to tell us everything she knew. Most of it was new to me, almost all of it. I'd recommend this to anyone, tourists and Montrealers alike, anyone who wants to know a bit more about this quartier and some of the rich history of Montreal.

    5 starts Montreal walking tour
Whether you are new to Montreal or have been living here your whole life: I promise that you will have an amazing time on this tour!! This is the third time I am doing a tour with MTL Detours, and, just as on the previous tours, I was blown away by the captivating stories about the MTL our guide Isabelle shared with us over the two hours we spent walking around the area. So much fun and so much I got to learn. Montreal is an amazing city, but after a tour like this, it is even more fascinating to me. Book the tour. Thank me later 😉

Interesting modern urban history and useful travel knowledge, very cool!
Unusual and informative tour! The guide Martin stopped frequently to point out landmarks and our location, which helped orient us whenever we would emerge from the RESO. He also spoke of the history of the tunnels and how they came to be. He had interesting historical photos of many of the places we visited so we could compare the views. I like that the tour was in the more "modern" section of the city, and it was cool to experience all the connectivity of the vast underground complex. Lots of great shopping and cafes down there! And some lovely modern art and architecture.

A great use of two hours!
Martin is a passionate, articulate, engaging guide who provides a world class tour! I would recommend without hesitation. There is standing for up to 10 minutes at a time and about a mile of walking. The two hours flew by!

    Brilliant tour of the Reso.
We booked the 2 hour Discover the Reso tour for our trip to Montreal. We wanted a tour that was only a couple of hours long which was going to give us maximum exposure to some of the interesting history of how the Metro and Reso systems came to be. This tour did not disappoint! Our tour guide, Gabriella. Was brilliant! Very knowledgeable about the rich British Canadien and French Canadien history as well as the origins of the recent developments of the Montreal downtown area. She had been conducting the tour for about 3 years and it really showed. Highly recommend, especially if you're after a quick scenic tour which is full of information. NOTE - it finished less than 1km from Notre Dame Basilica.

Martin was great! Loved this tour
Our tour guide, Martin, was an amazing guide and very knowledgeable about everything Montreal. Knew everything by heart and was funny too! Very cool to learn about the “interior” (not underground!) city :) Lots of walking, so be prepared for that. A great way to learn more about Montreal without being outside for too long.

We really enjoyed this tour. It included only 10 people and walked about a mile and a half. Even though the weather was warm, our guide, Tom did a good job of finding shady spots and helping us learn about the history of Montreal and enjoy the local flair. Our favorite parts were the statues at the beginning and also getting the opportunity to see old Montreal up close from a local we would highly recommend this. Bring a water bottle and make sure that you wear comfortable shoes! Definitely worth booking!

I would highly recommend this tour, one of the best walking tours I have ever taken. Leslie was knowledgeable, friendly, and great in every respect! She is a native Montreal resident who was obviously enjoying sharing her city with us! We were just a group of 8 but since the max is 10, you will always get a very personal tour! Upon returning to our hotel, I told a staff person about her tours, so hopefully others can have similar experience. Don't look elsewhere - take this tour!

We very much enjoyed our tour with Martin. He showed us many areas of Old Montreal that we would never have known about, as well as a great overview of the history. Several stops indoors allowed us to warm up a bit, as it was very cold that day. The tour allowed us to feel more at home in Old Montreal and to know the best places to go. Highly recommend this as a way to get to know the area, the history, and all it has to offer. Tip - don't miss going to the bakery downstairs under Bonsecours Market (the tour ends at the market.).

The whole tour was excellent. It is difficult to say what my favorite part was. Lesley was a wonderful guide. She was so knowledgeable and very nice. Also, because there are only 10 people or less on the tour, there is no jostling to be close to her to hear what she is saying. I would not waste my time on any other tour! It was fantastic! I really didn't learn a lot after her tour while visiting other sites, because she had taught us so much!

It was a rainy morning but Martin our guide was energetic and good humored. We enjoyed his deep knowledge of the city and his approach and wit. We were intrigued by the way he used the architecture to be found around the basolica to help us understand the different phases of the history of the province and thd city. He was adaptive and responsive and open to questions. He suggested restaurants as we walked and the list he gave us at the end of the tour has been valuable as we are here for 3 nights. Would recommend the tour, especially on your first morning here. It helps to make decisions about where you want to spend the rest of your time. Martin spent a lot of time after the tour helping a couple find Montreal smoked meat restaurant...not easy on a Monday.

Martin was a professional tour guide who is very pleasant and professional..He gave good background on the history of Montreal and was particularly informed about the architectural aspects of Old Montreal buildings He also gave good suggestions about restaurants..My only critique would be that an excessive amount of time was spent on dry architectural details particularly on buildings in the financial district and no time was devoted to stories and personalities of the historical figures of Montreal..Stories add color and dimension to a tour as well as enlivening the history of the city you are visiting

Hello, Merci for your thoughts. Too much of something for one person, might not be enough for another. This 2-hour intimate walking tour is a mix of history, fun facts, stories and...architecture - a little bit of everything! My guides and I cover a variety of topics and territory on this exclusive walk around the old city. Sorry to hear you thought the balance of info was tipped to one side. Martin is indeed an extremely knowledgeable guide with a fun, pleasant demeanor and is an excellent storyteller. I'll let him know that you would have loved more storytime with him :) Thanks for your input and have a nice day! Lesley MTL Detours Walking Tours mtldetours.ca

The tour guide (Marie-Pier) was very knowledgeable and a lifelong Montréal resident. She was well versed in history as well as current culture and issues. The weather was awful and she was able to move fluidly to new locations and cover the landmarks we “would be passing quickly” but taking all the time we needed to answer questions under cover and in warmth! At the end she provided a sheet of “must see” activities which was great to have for attractions as well as restaurants. Perfect way to start our trip. We missed the lights displays she discussed that are stationed throughout the city but we hope to catch those next time.

Loved learning about the history highlights of Montreal, factoids of US and Canada, our tour guide (Martin) who answered our relevant (and) quirky questions and gave us basic French language lessons along the way. Despite the inclement weather, Martin kept us safe and engaged choosing places of interest that was covered or indoors. Merci Martin!!

Lesley guided a fantastic small group walking tour of old Montreal. She is friendly, knowledgeable, engaging and approachable. She answered everyone’s questions with a smile. At the end (which included about 20 minutes of bonus time), she handed out a printed summary of highlights. She then followed up with an email inviting further inquiries.
Lesley is a fountain of knowledge. Highly recommended that you take MTL Detours at the beginning of your trip. You will feel good supporting a hard-working local small business person.

Lesley was professional, knowledgeable, and super fun. She clearly has a love for her city and is a fantastic guide! She started our tour on time, shared lots of information about the city’s history, architecture, politics, food, art, people, and so much more. When our tour concluded left us with postcards, maps, and treats. A wonderful way to learn about Montréal!
