About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- J Z0 contributionsGood viewsThey give a good three cycles for your money and you get nice views. You also don’t have to ride with other families. We went on one of the hottest days and it was warm but not horrible in there. It did have a faint smell of throw up.Written August 31, 2024
- shesgotsandinhertoes0 contributionsGreat views! This was a slow moving ride that lasted about 20 mins, made 3 full rounds and offered fabulous views of the waterfront. It was just my husband and I but they still gave us our own car. A bit pricey but definitely worth it!Written August 29, 2024
- MCSmith15820 contributionsYou want a better view than this of Montreal, you better have a chopperGreat 20 min tourist thing to do. Great for kids and families. Only way you are getting a better view of the city is by chopper.Written August 15, 2024
- sanju_2223230 contributionsit's hard to miss the towering Ferris wheel in MontrealWhile visiting the Old Port) it's hard to miss the towering Ferris wheel, La Grande Rou de Montreal. The view can never be better, enjoy the thrilling view of Old Montréal, the city center, and the St. Lawrence River on the highest Ferris wheel in Canada, La Grande Roue de Montréal. 42 climate-controlled cabins gently lift riders nearly 200 feet and go through three revolutions on this 20-minute ride. I know, I know, only 3 rides, but I guess 15 mins is good enough. There are 2 types of cabins- 1-Cabins that seat up to eight, 2-Gondola- A spacious VIP cabin, which is equipped with a glass floor and Italian leather seating for four riders. There are also lots of food trucks if you're craving poutine, cotton candy, ice cream, or other small bites.Written August 12, 2024
- EvaT15740 contributionsIconic structure at St Lawrence riverIt is part of Old Port and Promenade at St Lawrence river and you cannot miss it. When we visit the area it was a crowd there so we decided not to wait for a ride. But I can imagine it could be nice to see the city from it's top.Written July 28, 2024
- LaJurado0 contributionsNice views with a slow, smooth rideThis was a nice, slow ride. For the base price, you go around three times. It seems that their practice is to let groups have a gondola to themselves, which was a bonus. My daughter and I went, and though it could seat maybe eight (?), they let us ride with just us two. Perhaps that was because the line was very short during the week, closer to sunset. The views were great! My only fuss is the windows were smudged, so sometimes it was hard to get the camera to focus. Nevertheless, many pictures did come out good.Written July 18, 2024
- tonycK3959FS0 contributionsA great way to view MontrealThe views were amazing despite the poor weather. Excellent value for money for a ride of about 20 minutes or so. Very friendly staff. The cabin was very big and sits 8 persons comfortably.Written July 12, 2024
- wendysuzette0 contributionsWorth itThis is a ferris wheel. I know a ton of citites have ferris wheels now. But this one has a spectacular view. It really was not that expensive for the two of us- there was no line, it is climate controlled, the windows are clearly cleaned thoroughly every day as they were so incredibly clean and clear it made for spectacular photos. We went around three times for our ticket. We thought about going again at night to get sunset photos but ended up doing a different excursion instead. Beautiful.Written July 8, 2024
- alexh20090 contributionsDifferent view of the city and river - recommendedGreat way to get a different perspective on the city and the river front. Trip includes 3 circuits so don’t panic if you think it is moving fast. Air conditioned pods are a bonus Well worth the tripWritten June 5, 2024
- Julia K0 contributionsA great way to see the old portA beautiful way to get a sense of the city and the old port. The cabins are heated/cooled so it’s a comfortable experience at any time of year.Written May 31, 2024
- Marbles200 contributionsUse Montreal Passport to save $, typical Ferris wheel but a tourist “must do”Ok let’s keep it real - it’s a Ferris wheel…..you get on, it goes around, you see the city. You know exactly what you are getting - it isn’t new and the view (while interesting) isn’t like the London Eye. That said - it’s a must do. When touring Old Town it’s a popular stop….the line moved along at a snails pace and we discovered it was because each group (today at least) had their own capsule to themselves. Makes it slow when a single person takes an entire capsule and the group of 5 has to wait. (But hey, was nice to be alone vs in a group of strangers). Air conditioned - nice seats, each capsule holds 8 and it was clean. Suggest getting the Montreal Passport - gives you admission to this and other attractions (saves $$).Written May 19, 2024
- ian_dempster0 contributionsIn the old portLa Grande Roue de Montréal, an iconic attraction open 365 days a year. Canada's tallest observation wheel, standing at 60 meters tall, offers 18-minute rotations, providing you with breathtaking 360-degree views of Montreal Love the location being in the old port area giving great views of the riverWritten May 18, 2024
- tshep420 contributionsGreat RideWe went on the Ronde in April after a freak snow storm so it was not busy at all. You get great views and we had a 6 seater cabin to ourselves (just 2 of us). There is a lot of stuff around here for kids to day, although it was all closed (and snow covered) when we were there. There was a nice cafe that was open. Cost is $25/person but you get 3 rides around, about 20 minutes. I’ve seen complaints here that it is on 2 rotations so maybe they shorten it up in the summer.Written April 7, 2024
- 839beab0 contributionsCanada’s tallest observation wheelIt was built in order to celebrate the 375th anniversary of Montreal. Canada’s tallest observation wheel, situated right off the St. Lawrence River. Nearby you can see the Clock Tower and there are quite a few nice restaurants.Written December 11, 2023
- marcofahmey0 contributionsIt's worth the ride! The views were amazing from up there, with the fall foliage around the area and the river. It wasn't crowded when we got there. It took about 45 minutes or 3 circles per ride.Written November 29, 2023

On a bright sunny day, the kids decided to go on the Ferris wheel after lunch.
It was easy to get to.
Bring student id, it is $19.50 vs $25 for an adult.
The location is nice. Good bathroom facilities. Easy to buy tickets. All nicely set up.
On a weekday, the line up was reasonable. And you get around five turns. Each cabin sits eight.
Peaceful ride and nice view on a bright sunny day.
And. There is a warm fire to keep you warm if you passed on the ride and have to wait.

It is a typical Ferris wheel. Nothing special about it, clean that's about it. The skating center beneath it gives it a little bit of meaning. Not a special view from the top. They need to add on to the activities list. Honestly no need to get on it, for Instagram lovers, just snap a photo from the bottom and keep on trucking!

This was something of a disappointment for us. While the enclosed cabins were relatively comfortable and climate controlled, the ride was short (three revolutions) on a Tuesday with no lines at all. No real reason it could not have gone longer. The "Ultraclear" cabin glass was dirty both inside and out, darting from photos. Additionally, there were advertising stickers on some of the windows above the bench, which blocked the view you were paying to get. The exit path forces you through their gift-shop/cafe. Ugh. Overall it did not meet our expectations.

I'm a photographer and film director, so like any other visitor I took my family to La Grande Roue de Montreal. Tickets are not cheap so you do expect something special out of it. It's a truly disappointment, the glass of each booth are as dark as dark can be, so it's useless to take pictures. And if you do use the flash light of your camera or cellphone it will burst at you like a powerful reflection of light. I truly don't recommend this at all. I went during the day and at night, and it is worse at night.

Since the cars are spacious and securely glass-enclosed, it's much more about admiring the views and much less about a thrill of being 90m meters in the air at the top. As a couple we got our own car which was nice. The views were amazing, especially on a day with only a few clouds. Would be awesome at sunset, we were just about an hour too early. Definitely worth the price of the ticket for Montreal tourists like us!

This observation wheel located near the old port of Montreal is beautiful to look at and the ride offers spectacular views of the surroundings. Certainly worth it.

I came here with a friend. The price is 25.00$ per person, a bit expensive however worth the view. I liked my experience; it was better than expected. I highly recommend it.

We have done the great wheel in Seattle which is very similar so we were familiar with the wheel itself but not the Montreal view of course. We tried to time it so we could see the sun setting. We saw the sun setting over the city and as it got dark we could see the city lights below which were very pretty all lit up. Maybe it's less crowded at that time because we only had to wait a few minutes before we got on, and we got our own gondola. At the base there is a cafe and gift shop. It is also walking distance to the zip line and old town Montreal.

The ride was fun. It was a hot day, but the cars had AC so it was nice and comfortable inside. The line moves fast since they can load 6 cars each stop. The wheel moves slow so no worries or motion sickness. Great views of the city and beyond.

We are older and concerned about Covid - can we have a gondola to ourselves (two people)?
Written August 1, 2022
Absolutely. We went in the early afternoon and crowds were minimal. We told them we had that concern and wanted to go alone and they accommodated us right away

The ticket says per adult (18+). I have two boys age 5 and 8. Do they need tickets too?
Written August 18, 2021
Available on the wheel? No. I don't recall if drinks or food were permitted on the wheel.

I'm terrified of heights at slow speeds, should I skip this? I know my daughter will want to go on this. We will be in Montreal next month. How long does the ride last? Can you get off after one revolution instead of 3?
Written October 22, 2019
I would not go on this ride if you are afraid of heights. You go up very high in my opinion. It took about 15- 20 minutes. You have to stay on until the end; you can't exit early.
Written October 23, 2019
do you need to purchase tickets in advance?
Written August 13, 2019
I did through trip advisor and it cost me $25 for two people.
