- hazelanna20170 contributionsDarren was the best!Darren was awesome! Super knowledgable and accommodating. Each stop was great and I felt like I got a good taste of what Montreal is known for.Written September 3, 2024
- Monica B0 contributionsInformative and enjoyable Mile End food tourThe Mile End food tour was very enjoyable, guide Francis was really knowledgeable about the local area, its history and food highlights. Highly recommended!Written August 28, 2024
- brucel4460 contributionsGreat tour for someone interest in local foodsOverall, a very good, interesting and enjoyable tour. I had booked an 11 am tour so that it would overlap the noon hour and effectively take the place of lunch. that goal was largely achieved. However, upon arrival at the meeting point, I learned that the 11 am tour had been cancelled and combined with the 11:30 am but I had not received any notification in advance. Other than the inconvenience of having to kill the 30 minutes, not a major issue but some communication would have been appreciated.Written August 24, 2024
- hblanke0 contributionsGreat way to learn about the Mile End neighborhood of MontrealWhat a wonderful way to explore the Mile End area. The tour is a mix of tastings at locally owned businesses and information about the area itself. Darren, our guide, had a wealth of knowledge. At the end, he passed around laminated sheets of recommendations we could photograph. My suggestion would be to set up the information on the sheets to be emailed as the tour is ending.Written August 23, 2024

- jenniferdT2104XL0 contributionsone of the best i've been on, well run, smooth, filled with food, fun and interesting!Amazing, well-balanced tour. All kinds of historical, cultural and local information, filled in with filling food and good snacks. Darren was really down to earth, fun to be around, knowledgeable and funny. I've been on dozens of food tours and this is definitely one i'd recommend with my eyes closed, as it shows travellers the Mile-End in a great light, while having them taste local bites and international delights, which basicaly make up Montreal! Our guide, Ronny was outstanding as he led us around Old Montreal, enjoying local delicacies and beverages. He was very well informed, connected very well to all the tour participants, and made us feel welcomed. He was interested in each of us and helped us make connections to each other. The places we stopped were new to us, and the food/beverages were very tasty (amazing bagel, carrot cake, french onion soup, macaron, and poutine. Highly recommend this tour and Ronny.

Our guide, Fran, was excellent. She was very knowledgeable and we really enjoyed her company. My only complaint is that we were not allowed to browse in any of the shops we visited. For example when we visited Cookie Stefanie, we walked right through the business out the other door into the back hallway. While out in the hall, Fran went back into the Cookie Stefanie and came back with samples of carrot cake which was one of the best carrot cakes I’ve ever had. After we finished our sample we just left. It would have been nice if we could have at least gone in and looked at the other sweet delicacies.

This food tour is so interesting. Not only do you get to try some lovely food, but you also get to learn more about Montreal - not only about the food - but about the history of the city. It was a wonderful experience all the way around. We were definitely completely satisfied by the end of it!

Our host was excellent. While relatively new to conducting Food Tours, she knew the history of Montreal, and provided wonderful insights. The selections of food choices made for a nice blend of Montreal. A great experience.

We went to a Montreal for a friends birthday who lives in the USA and hadn’t been to Montreal before; we thought this tour would be a great way to see some key spots as well as sample food and beverage.
Our tour operator was nice; however, meeting point was unclear and without signage, the tour started 30 mins late, it was a large group (over 10 ppl). At the first food/drink spot, we were served 1/2 a bagel with optional tap water and nowhere to sit or even gather around the tour guide. We were then taken to the washrooms and told there wouldn’t be another stop for at least an hour. We then had the tour guide clarify that this was not a food and drink/wine pairing (as described and the reason we purchased) we left the group.
It was very disappointing and an overinflated price for what we were getting. I would not recommend this tour at all.

The Local Food Tours Vieux Montréal was a complete delight! Our guide Darren was funny, personable, had extensive knowledge of Montréal's sights and history, and had a deep love for his city.
The bites we had along our tour were delicious and filling, so remember to come hungry! The tour ended with a group debate between which dish was our favorite. In the end, bagels barely edged out the poutine... Would you expect anything less from Montréal?!
I recommend taking a trip with Darren and Local Food Tours early in your Montréal visit if you can. You'll get a wonderful snapshot of a Montréal neighborhood, and Darren has an absolutely priceless set of lists of recommendations for all the best things to do, see, and eat around town. If you are passionate about supporting local businesses and seeing the real Montréal -- then Local Food Tours is a must!

Ronny was a fantastic tour guide! We got an amazingly well rounded and passionate tour from a man who truly loves and appreciates the history and culture of Montreal. The weather didn't cooperate but Ronny was very thoughtful (and funny) when shepherding us from stop to stop and even gave a bonus stop to share a bit more about the city. The food was of course tasty and came along with very interesting facts. I went on my birthday and at the end of the tour he lead the Happy Birthday song which was a very pleasant surprise. Would highly recommend this tour with Ronny!

No matter which restaurant you happen to visit, the food and atmospheres are worth it. grab a fresh brew or try one of many beers while munching on a calzone or pizza, try one of many ethnic restaurants which offer their own specialities. You can't lose !

I had an amazing experience on the Old Montreal Food & Drink Tour on November 25, 2023. David, our guide, was fantastic, seamlessly blending history with phenomenal food. His captivating storytelling brought Old Montreal's cobblestone streets to life, creating a truly immersive journey.
The tour began with insightful explorations of historical landmarks, providing context to the city's rich tapestry. The curated selection of eateries showcased Montreal's diverse culinary scene, with each stop offering unique delights. From traditional Québécois dishes to international flavors, the tour catered to all tastes.
David's expertise and attention to detail were evident, ensuring a well-paced and comfortable experience. The visit to Franklin’s was a standout, epitomizing the fusion of Old World charm and modern flair in Montreal's cuisine.

The tour was exceptional. There were 6 stops for excellent cuisine on the perfect walking tour of Old Montreal. One member of our party is Celiac and the guide diligently (and seemingly effortlessly) made accommodations at each stop to ensure they enjoyed the tour as much as everyone else. 5/5 stars. Would recommend to a friend (or nice strangers).

Would someone who doesn’t eat meat besides seafood, have options and be able to enjoy this tour?
Written January 27, 2020
yes, the French onion soup was not made with beef broth at the place we stopped at--very tasty. Also, it is paired with red wine. There is a dessert stop as well. I have a sensitivity to beef--the only thing I could not eat was the pontine at the last stop--it had meat and gravy on fries. I did not tell the tour company beforehand--so I did not eat it--but the tour company was so great with other questions! Laura was our tour guide! Have fun!
