Make your way to a central location in Quebec City’s Upper Town, and then join your guide for a small-group tour of the historic center—a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Set out on foot to running commentary on the modern-day culture and long history of Quebec City, passing stone buildings with a distinctly European feel. You’ll see the Fortifications of Quebec, and learn the important role that the city walls once played. Pass La Citadelle de Quebec (Quebec Citadel), an active military installation and the official residence of the Canadian monarch, then take in Notre Dame des Victoires—one of the oldest stone churches in Canada. Cross Place Royale, often called the birthplace of French America, and wrap up the tour near the base of the Old Quebec Funicular, where you can hop a ride back up to the Upper Town without retracing your steps uphill.

    Disappointed
Our tour was fine, but overall I feel let down after the amazing reviews on this site. Our guide (whose name I do not recall) was very average and did not have a terrific grasp of the wonderful history of Quebec City, nor the ability to convey it in an interesting way to our group of 4. We paid a lot for this tour, and it did not live up to the reputation. My advice - make sure you have a specific guide who has been recommended on this site.

Excellent Old Quebec Private Walking Tour
We had a delightful private walking tour of Old Quebec with Helen, who is native to the City. She was very knowledgeable about the City’s history, architecture and lesser known facts and paths. Her enthusiasm about Quebec made the tour very enjoyable. We spent about 2 hours in the upper portion of Old Town and 30 min in the lower.

Great guide— beautiful city full of history
Our guide Louise was delightful. She provided a wonderful narrative, full of history and illustrations. It is obvious she loves her city! We felt that we saw all the main things to see in the old town on this tour. It concluded in the lower part of the city that had lots of shops and restaurants for us to wonder through and find a nice lunch spot. The history and the beauty of the area makes this a great tour. For me, I appreciated the historical context provided and the sights we saw. Thanks for a great tour! One thing that might be nice is to provide info on parking options nearby. Unfortunately we were not expecting the marathon happening the same day as our tour which made it a little stressful to get to where we needed meet. I would say to allow extra time to get to where you need to be—I have a feeling that there is stuff going on on weekends all the time. Even if you are early, there is a lot to see right there in the area.

Taking this tour brought history together, feeling like we were a part of the events. We highly recommend this tour.

    Quebec City Walking Tour
Tommy was an excellent tour guide. He gave us lots of history on how Quebec was founded and the struggles over the years due to the British wanting to take over. We saw many historical places. Tommy presented the information with ease and threw in some humor as well. I would highly recommend this tour.

Carole was a fantastic tour guide. She knows the city and history! Very enjoyable tour. Yes there are steps and the streets are up and down but our group did fine and we are mostly over the age of 70!

    Outstanding Viking Tour!
Neil shared his love for Quebec with us today. It was rainy but it did not dampen our experience in the least! He was fun, informative, personable and professional. By far one of the best guides we have ever encountered! Plus he grew up in Minnesota😀

    Best tour guide … ever.
Neil Schumacher was our guide with a Viking organized tour of Quebec City. He was fabulous! Very knowledgeable, with just the right combination of humorous asides and historical information. A true lover of this most charming city. Highly recommend him for your visit. He gives private tours, also. E.White

    A Must Do
A simply fantastic tour. I fell in love with Quebec City because of what I saw and learned. Our tour guide, Paul, was friendly and knowledgeable. He stopped to answer questions and gave us a comprehensive history lesson on the founding of the city. To add to the magic, there was a cycle race that day and the roads were lined with cheering fans. I couldn't have asked for a better tour. I heartily recommend this one, especially those who are visiting the city via a cruise ship.

    Fascinating tour
Our tour guide, Jimmy, provided so much detail as we walked the City. He had lots of interesting stories to share and our small group of 10 was able to hear everything he had to say. We learned so much on this tour and thoroughly enjoyed the walking pace. Quebec City can be challenging for walkers as the elevation undulates.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Jocelyn Belleau. She was very entertaining and presented a wonderful insight into how Quebec City came to be in its present day state. The tour was just the right length of time and she gave great tips on places to eat/shop. She is very kind, warm and welcoming and has the perfect personality for her job. This was evident not just in how she treated her tour participants but also in watching her interactions with other locals that she knew along the route. Would highly recommend this tour.

This was an excellent walking tour lasting over two hours taking in the old town both up high and down below.

Our guide was Yves who was very knowledgeable indeed about the history, architecture and other key facts and figures about the city. He was also a very friendly and likeable guide.

We covered a good distance during the tour and learned many interesting facts not just about old Quebec but also about Canadian history in general.

I believe this was good value for money and enjoyed the experience very much.

It was a super warm day for June and Yves made his best efforts to find the group some shade if at all possible.

I would highly recommend this company and tour if you are in old Quebec and want to know more about it.

Yves was also very happy to recommend local restaurants and other activities after the tour.

We had a fantastic tour guide! Francis...he was so interesting, knowledgeable and told the history as if it was a story book with fun and interesting anecdotes....he held the attention of adults and children alike, and animated everything in both official langages in order to accommodate our 6 family members who are half French only and half English only! He was amazing! Everyone came away with interesting informative facts about our history! Even though we had visited Quebec City multiple times before, we saw the city in a whole new light! Great job Francis!

My husband and I took the walking tour on a very cold, windy December morning. Our guide Richard was knowledgeable and personable with a lively sense of humor, and he made sure that we had warm up stops along the way. We came away vastly more informed about the fascinating history of the city and with lots of recommendations of things to do and places to eat for the rest of the day. At the end of the tour Richard gave us a discount card to use for the virtual reality tour that the same company offers. We did that tour the next morning and enjoyed it, too!

This was the first walking tour we did when we got to Quebec City and it was outstanding. Clarice did an amazing job of showing us around the old city, explaining the historical significance of the places we visited, as well as pointing out other points of interest (including restaurant recommendations). It was a great way to get oriented to the city, and I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is visiting Quebec.

Our Guide, Louise Labelle, was very knowledable and immersed us in the history of “the cradle of French Canadian civilization “. The walk was well paced and Louise shared some interesting and unique tidbits relating to the history of the city. She also had great suggestions as to where to shop and dine. Two thumbs up!

I highly recommend taking the tour at the start of your visit to help you get situated with the area. Joycelyn has the perfect personality for a tour guide and she was engaging, funny, and very knowledgeable about the history of Quebec City and Canada. We learned so much about the culture, historic people and French and English architecture . She even explained one of the many huge art murals in town .
Do dress appropriately for weather and wear comfortable shoes . We had a light dusting of snow so some of the streets and sidewalks were slick. They do have railings on some of the streets to hang on to. The city and most storefronts did a beautiful job decorating the streets with trees and Christmas lights...absolutely beautiful ! Go to the outdoor German Market !!

I also recommend taking funicular back up to the walled city for the experience and view, especially if you're tired form walking up all the stairs and hills . They do take American dollars $5 (cash only)

We really enjoyed our tour with Denis. He showed up right on time and we were a very small group. His English was very good and he knew so much about the history of the city. He said it was our tour, not his, so he would stop and talk about any thing or place as long as the people in the group wanted to stay there/on that subject. He gave lots of insider’s tips about where to eat, shop, explore. It gave us ideas for things to do later in the day. I recommend taking the walking tour as early in your visit to the city as possible so you can follow up later by further exploring the places that they recommend on the tour. We had explored the city on our own the night before, and he took us back to some of the places that we had already been, but without knowing the history or the meaning behind the places, they’re nowhere near as meaningful. After the tour, we really had a sense of the culture and pride of the people of Quebec.

The booking was easy to make and we discovered a Quebec city that we had never seen before. Francis, our delightful tour guide, was very knowledgeable and entertaining and presented a history of Quebec in a very interesting and unbiased way.
Francis set a new standard for us on what to expect from a tour guide, and if we find that he does other tours, we would love to do those tours as well. For those who want a very interesting and entertaining presentation, we encourage you to take this tour, even if you have had previous Quebec city walking tours. You will love it, just like we did.

We were in Quebec City for several days for an event and wanted to take an informative tour of Old Quebec. We settled on this walking tour and we are glad we did!

Francis was our guide and immediately we could tell he was going to be fun. He is a history and architecture buff, with a wealth of knowledge of the area. Everywhere we turned he shared fantastic details with a stellar personality blending candor and humor.

Our tour ran slightly over the designated two hours and we would have been happy to spend twice that much time learning about this beautiful city.

HIGHLY recommend this tour if you'd like to learn about the history and architecture of Old Quebec from an extremely knowledgeable local.

Another kudos for his speaking very LOUD and CLEAR... easily heard even in more noisy environments.

Note: we heard a couple folks with thin skin and delicate sensibilities may not take kindly to factual relaying of historical events. That's a shame to go through life looking to be offended. Francis is a gem. Highly recommend. 🤙🏼🤙🏼
