About
This half day excursion is packed with some of the best sights in the Yukon! We start by making a stop at a viewpoint over Miles Canyon, a crux of the stampeders journey from Alaska to the Klondike. From there we head down the South Klondike Highway to Emerald Lake, then onto the Carcross Desert, the smallest desert in the world. After a quick orientation around Carcross you will have some free time to explore the artisan stores, or walk the beach on Bennett Lake.
On the way back to Whitehorse we make a stop and Caribou Crossing for you to try your hand at gold panning, and you can keep anything you find! Oh, and they also have puppies. Little fluffy husky puppies that love to be petted!
This day trip really packs in the best of the Yukon, you won't be disappointed!

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- MelissaM72890 contributionsA Truly Exceptional Experience with Epic North Tour ExperiencesEpic North Tour Experiences provided first-rate assistance in curating our 3-day corporate trip in Whitehorse. From the moment we started planning, their expertise and dedication shone through. Tobias worked closely with me to customize our itinerary prior to our arrival, ensuring every detail aligned with our vision. On-site, Juan and James were phenomenal. They took turns driving us to various venues, sharing fascinating stories along the way, and ensuring we had a VIP experience at every step. James even went above and beyond, capturing incredible photos of our group during the snowmobile excursion, which added a personal touch we deeply appreciated. Our clients were thrilled to participate in such unique and memorable activities, and as the organizer, I couldn't have been happier with how knowledgeable and professional the team was. They truly brought my vision to life. This trip will be remembered as one for the books—a standout experience for both myself and our guests. I wholeheartedly recommend the team at Epic North Tour Experiences, whether you’re planning a custom private tour or joining one of their public-friendly excursions. They are, without a doubt, the best in the business! Melissa National Event Specialist at GuillevinWritten November 29, 2024
- j0ssu_gerard0g0 contributionsAmazing northern lights experience!Oly was our tour guide and she is amazing! We had three nights hunting northern lights and we were very lucky! We saw them the three nights. Epic north has a very good place inside the woods where you can play chess, uno and other games while waiting northern lights to appear. Very nice experience to see them, be around the fireplace, talking and laughing.Written October 5, 2024
- D6526SIangelar0 contributionsHighlights of the YukonA really good holiday with some beautiful scenery, plenty of history and some culture. Dawson City is a very interesting place with an excellent tour by the guides in the information centre. James was a brilliant tour guide who did more than he needed to, taking us on extra photo stops, arranging extra activities, making sure everyone was ok. Very knowledgeable about the area, he kept us entertained with information and stories on the long but scenery filled drives. Would definitely recommend this trip.Written September 19, 2024
- 377rosef0 contributionsYukon HighlightsThe tour was Yukon Highlights (not listed in the drop down menu). It was great, small group (9 people), comfortable van, and a superb guide and driver. James was knowledgeable, personable, attentive and entertaining. Scenery was amazing, even on a rainy day. Personally, I'd have liked more walking but the tour suited the majority of the group. It was a good way to see the "highlights" of the Yukon.Written September 17, 2024
- 208lulag0 contributionsAwesome views!Overall everything was fine: the hotel pick-up and drop-off times, the photos, the place and the cabin. Tim,the guide, very attentive, kind and friendly. We could saw the lights 3 nights! They were always very quick to answer my questions via whats app. Several things to improve such as the fact that there is no one to receive us at the airport (as other companies have), the hotel shuttle only accepts 6 people and it is not easy to get a taxi; they don't have guides in Spanish (as another company does). I wrote via IG before my trip to find out about the tour to Skagway but sadly I was never replied.Written February 28, 2024
- traveller9840290 contributionsAverage experience.Kluane National Park day trip. Wonderful scenery. Good to see the roughness of the Alaska highway again. I was upset that the company charged a surcharge for use of my credit card. No other tour company in the Yukon did that. The snacks provided were minimal. The tour was a bit over priced. The Klondike Experience out of Dawson City provided a wonderful day trip for less cost and lunch provided. Their tour guild was young and enthusiastic.Written January 4, 2024
- alexlee890 contributionsWinter Day trip to Kluane National ParkFirst off, Epic North Adventures is a tour group that cares about the safety of its clients. The first example is by delaying the tour to start slightly later due to the longer winter night and shorter daylight. It sounds simple but it is actually worth noting the experience of the tour company. Our guide Yu, is from Japan and has stayed in Yukon for almost a decade and has a vast amount of knowledge and history about the culture and wildlife of Yukon. Hence, my family and I had an incredible tour. I highly recommend those visiting Yukon to check them out!Written November 26, 2023
- moonyeelam0 contributions4 Days private tour at Whitehorse with CedricWe thoroughly enjoyed visiting Whitehorse. All of the arrangements made by Tobi and Cedric worked out perfectly. Travelling across in the luxury van throughout day and night, for which you deserve special thanks. Overall, we were pleased with our itinerary: 4 days in Whitehorse, including our 3 nights tour to view Northern night at Aurora Basecamp. We felt we were able to see most of the major sights, but not exhaustingly so. Thank you again.Written November 15, 2023
- S4005TZdavidd0 contributionsFantastic guide, knowledgeable and experiencedWe experienced a Northern Lights tour with another larger company the previous night, but this was a level above. Yuyu picked us up and 20 minutes later we were in a secluded area, freshly built and perfect for seeing the lights. Yuyu explained about the Light, took photos of us with the Lights (free) and then assisted us in taking our own photos. We captured many pictures with both a DLSR and mobile phone thanks to his assistance. Yu is a really nice guy and would highly recommend him for your Northern Lights experience.Written September 26, 2023
- 474barbarar0 contributionsBeauties and the Beasts: Super Grizzly and Glacier Tour8-day Grizzlies and Glaciers Tour (the Yukon and Alaska) for small groups. Epic North Tours delivered what they promised. We had splendid photographic encounters with grizzlies and stunning views of glacier-topped mountains. Also enjoyed short hikes, visits to First Nations cultural centres, Whitehorse and environs, views of beautiful lakes and salmon spawning streams, plus a little kayaking on the side – all thanks to Rick, our knowledgeable guide. Strongly recommended.Written September 8, 2023
- Tallteacher_800 contributionsDon't Trust Epic North!!!I booked multiple tours with Epic North in early June for a late August trip to the Yukon. They cancelled all three trips shortly before my trip due to low numbers. I had to scramble to find another company to save my trip. Truly a disgraceful way to run a business. Huge thumbs 👎👎👎Written August 24, 2023

Yu stopped at all the best spots as well as whenever something caught our eye. He was very well informed and provided us with both history and stories of the area. Had an amazing trip!! Hundreds of amazing pictures. Our first trip to the Yukon…Thank you Yu, we will be back!!Written August 14, 2022
- G7680AEmikeb0 contributionsGreat Whitehorse to Skagway Travel OptionWhen the White Pass Yukon Route Railway train from Whitehorse to Skagway was cancelled for 2022, I needed alternative transportation options for my trip. I fortunately found the Skagway Explorer tour through Epic North. This trip takes you from Whitehorse to Skagway, making a number of interesting stops along the way (e.g. Emerald Lake, Forty Mile Rapids, Carcross, Carcross Desert and many more). The owner of Epic was always responsive to my emails. He agreed to pick me up from Skagway midway through the tour and bring me back to Whitehorse. If it wasn't for them, I may still be stranded in Alaska! Huge thanks to Yuya for being a great driver/tour guide. He is quite knowledgeable, personable and accommodating. Thanks again for bringing me back to Canada!Written July 31, 2022

Yuya was a terrific guide, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about animals, plants and history. We visited Miles Canyon, Emerald Lake, Carcross desert, Carcross town and Caribou Crossing Trading Post where the highlights were petting Spirit the Black horse and watching the malamute puppies. He gave us suggestions for hiking in the area and was flexible with timing at the different stops if we wanted to stay longer at one and less at another.

On reading Pierre Berton's "Klondike The Last Great Gold Rush" years ago, I was sold on the worth of visiting Yukon's Gold Rush sites. This September, 2024 I acted on it and toured with James Major from EPIC NORTH.
Then before James' tour, during a week on our own in Whitehorse, two incidents discouraged me. Whitehorse's S.S. Keno river boat site was closed with neither pamphlets nor a museum saying so. Then the museum underplayed Berton's book. That changed with James Major's arrival. From widespread locations, day after day, James spoke heartily and in his own language from Berton's book. My favorite was in Miles Canyon on the Yukon River where James spoke of goldrush prospectors fording highly dangerous rapids. Every day James authentically offered a goldrush living history.

The "Yukon Gold Experience" trip was great. A very nice guide told us very interesting stories about the gold rush era. There were lovely stops to take photos and everything was very entertaining. I can only recommend it!

James Major with Epic North is very knowledgeable, patient, friendly, and solicitous (I needed that as a senior!).Quick to lend an arm when I looked unsteady. Spent a week with James as our tour guide and he deserves a perfect rating! My husband, DavidO, also agrees with me and added more detail. He posted his review earlier!

Yuya is an excellent tour guide and this is a great tour if you're in Whitehorse without a car (comfortable, informative, hits lots of stops, and Yuya is happy to slightly adjust the tour to pack in as much as possible). We even saw a bear and her cubs by the road (a lucky day!)
