      Fun and informative!
Thanks to the kind staff, we had a wonderful time. We went on a weekday and the ship had lots of space. It was a beautiful experience and with the kids, 3 hours was just perfect. Enough time to enjoy the views, listen to fun facts and take photos.

      Lovely expensive cruise
Very nice cruise on the St Laurent river but a bit expensive. Free parking on the spot appreciated. Friendly staff on board.

Nice way to see the 1000 Islands.
Fantastic boat tour! Lots of history and great views of everything, including Boldt Castle. The boat had enough space to move around easily and the company caps the number of guests on each tour so you have opportunity to view the sites from different spots on the boat since it's not jam-packed. We all enjoyed the tour.

Unacceptable cancellation policy - be aware!!!
Booked and fully prepaid a 1 hour cruise in October 2023 for our group of 18 back in May 2023. On the day of the cruise we had one person really sick and he couldn't participate. I did ask for a refund for the one ticket, but was told that the refund policy is 7 days. This is ridiculous! Prepaid month in advance and they cannot refund 1 ticket out of 18?! I loved working with the local tour operators in the past, but this company seems to get the small ones out of business and rule everything. Be aware! Don't pre-book!!! There was lots of space on the ship, even though it was a beautiful and sunny day.

      Will be back
We came once again here, as we cannot get enough of this great part of the world with it's small islands stretching between USA and Canada and yes, most surely we will come again in the future. Although we set our base in Belleville, we were travelling returning from our 3000 km trip between PEI and Toronto and I called in advance to ensure the cruise will not be busy for their afternoon 1h tour: - the person on the phone confirmed there were only a few people buying tickets due to being late September and asked to pay a fee higher than what we paid later on at the ticket office - we noticed nowadays the ticket office is housed in a different building, where they also have a souvenir shop but no toilets. The original building is now a shop and restaurant with live music - although I took pictures of the City cruises, we actually took the Thousand island boat which is laid on 2 levels: the first level with air conditioned inside and where the bar with drinks/snacks is and also toilets. The second level is not covered and a seagull travelled with us without paying any fee - Mr Bad!!!! - the tour is narrated and you learn lots of things about the life on the islands, how difficult is to get the produce and how most are un-inhabited in the cold season - there are still some people on the island waiving friendly or kayakers - after getting the tickets and parking the car at a discounted cost in their car park, we were fortunate to be the first in line for this boat, some 30min earlier: when we were here in the past, we noticed how people were running to get the best seats which is not nice to see. Even so, near us, there was a group who kept moving in 3 different directions repeatedly to take their 'best pictures' annoying just about everybody. Everything is very idyllic, yet every single time I get a headache, no idea why: could be the engine smell, or the heat etc. Yet we are still going to return here.

      Pleasant trip
The boat was ok but very noisy on the lower deck. One of the seats on the upper deck had a small split which caused a small tear in my wife's trousers. The commentary was reasonably clear and provided some interesting information. It was a pleasant 3 hour cruise, although the amount of development on the islands and along the river bank was surprising.

Trip was a lot of fun. Great sites, great narratives. Staff was nice and friendly. Boat speed was perfect to be able to take the pics we wanted.

      A must do in Gananoque!
The views were amazing and so many picturesque opportunities! The boat also gets close enough to the castle that you can some pretty good pictures! Definitely a trip to remember.

      ill-considered booking
Unfortunately, we were not able to arrive on time to take part in the cruise. We were travelling from another city and there was a problem with our car. As we found out when we contacted the cruise company, we would have had an opportunity to rebook the cruise, if we had booked it through the website of the cruise company, but since we booked it through Tripadvisor, we did not have such an option. So, if you aren't sure, whether you can arrive on time, we would definitely recommed to make a reservation through the cruise company directly.

A long 3 hour cruise with not much to see
I was hoping the trees would be turning colors but nope and so until we got to Boldt castle, it was a bit dull. Pretty scenery for about 30 minutes, that's enough. We circled the castle island twice and then came back, of course, the same route. Now I was bored and went down a deck to eat popcorn and check my phone. 3 hours was too long for an adult with a terrific attention span....think about it. Parking was more expensive than the website says too.

A fun, comfortable, and interesting cruise around a lovely area.
Very scenic and interesting. We had wanted to take the longer cruise that included the Boalt Castle visit, but that wasn’t available. It turns out the 3 hour cruise was just right — pleasant, informative, and not too long.

      The Worse Boat Tour
First of all, the price was ridiculous much more than the one we took with Clayton Tours in Kingston and it was approximately 3 hrs. I am still fighting with this company for my refund. It also cost $9 to park they kept stressing it was all day parking. The tour NEVER TOOK PLACE! They had us all board the boat and for the first 30 mins it was TOTAL SILENCE - no one spoke to any of us. Finally, I asked 2 very nice girls at snack bar what was up. They told us that the sound and video system was down and we would only be riding on the river for an hr clueless to our surroundings. They knew of a couple things and were kind enough to point them out. BOGUS!!!!

this should be on every body's visit list
We took the 3 hours tour and it was better than we had expected. Very interesting about the history of this particular area between Canada and USA. The properties are beautiful or stunning in some cases!

The boat was fine and we enjoyed the commentary on the ride to Boldt Castle. We were most excited to see the castle. They said 2hrs on the island, but it took us 50mins to get off the boat and get through customs. We basically had 45mins to run around the castle and rush through without reading anything or having time to really even take it in. We definitely needed another hour and it would have been great, but we just left feeling like we did not at all get our money's worth (especially when you cannot even bring any food and have to purchase overpriced snacks). I would not recommend this cruise, leave from another city.

Excellent day cruising to Boldt Castle. The castle is a must see! The staff were very friendly and organized. Meal options on the cruise are very no frills, there is a snack bar where you can purchase items like chips, chocolate bars, popcorn, small salads and hotdogs. Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage options are available on board. Not a fine dining experience by any means but the lovely views make up for it. Your own food and drinks on board are not permitted but do pack a sweater as it gets cool, even on a hot day. Passports are checked upon arrival to the island and again when arriving back in Gananoque.

For the cost this is a great trip.
The boat ride through the 1000 islands was very nice with a preprogrammed narration of stories and some facts. Arriving at the castle, we were in a location that enabled us to exit the boat sooner than later, which was good as my only complaint is there needs to be a more efficient way of checking people through border security or maybe not fill the boat to its maximum capacity. This did not affect us at all, but we did witness some people just clearing security and we had already been on the grounds for almost an hour. I felt bad for them, they would have only had an hour to tour the castle and grounds and that’s not enough time to fully enjoy the experience.
Now, as for the castle and grounds, it is stunning. We had a beautiful warm sunny day, we really enjoyed wandering and reading the information plaques. They also have a self guided tour option that you can listen to on your phone. If you’re Canadian this might be a challenge if you have your phone in airplane mode to not get charged for roaming in the US.
The boat departed on time at 10am.
Approximately 11:15am we were at the island.
Return to the boat was 1:20pm
    Depart the island at 1:40pm
Arrived at the dock in Gananoque approximately 2:45.
There is beverages snacks, popcorn and hotdogs on the boat for purchase.
There is washrooms located on the boat, at the docks and in the castle. And at the dock of the castle there is a little cafe to grab a bite to eat (just give yourself time for that).
If you have mobility issues there is an elevator at the castle. But the hill to get into the castle is a little steep.
Dress appropriately, good walking shoes and a sweater or jacket as the chill off the water and when the boat was in motion was chilly if you were outside.
Our group all agreed we would recommend and even do this tour again sometime.

We weren't accepted on the cruise because we need usa visa. When i ordered the tickets on their web, it wasn't so clear at all. It's written in a very fuzzy way, when it should be in big red letters - as it is the most importatn condition for this cruise. The Citycruises personal didn't do much to minimize the the damage... not even accepting the cost that we already paid as part of the cost of the 3 hours cruise. It was going to be one of the highlights of this trip. It became the worst day. We even spent a night in Gananoque in order to be early and ready for the cruise. A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!!

We paid for 3 people to tour Boltdt Castle. In the brouchure it stated you will have a 3 hour stopover at thr Castle. NOT CORRECT!!! We arrived at the Castle after our 1 1/2 boat Cruise which was lovely. Once at the Castle you need to go thru US Customs. Understandably this takes FOREVER..for 300 passagers we did not get off the boat until 1240. At this time we wete told we needed to be back on the boat at 120pm...Im sorry what? That gave us barely 45min to get lunch and see the castle ..of which we were literally running around to try to see.
I contacted City Cruises about this and was sent the usual thanks for the input email. At NO time did they offer to replace or refund the Cruise. I get they have no control over US Customs but they do have control over what time the boat leaves at. So instead of trying to cram in an additional Cruise maybe stay an extra 1hr on the island so your guests actually can enjoy the place they payed to see. There Customer service is something to be desired.
Do not waste your money on thids Cruise if you actually want to see the castle. If you want the boat Cruise then that part was lovely just get that.

The cruise was very nice and informative. The reason I give it 3 out of 5, it says a 2 hour stop over at the castle. Since it is in the US there are customs and with a full boat it took 50 mins to get off the boat to see the castle. Left us with only 1 hour and 10 mins to see everything and felt so rushed as there is so much to see. Also it was only 4 and a half hours as we got back 30 mins before 3pm, They advertise 5 hours but it's really not. If you can see boldt castle by private tour or your own boat you are better off. Other wise the 3 hour cruise is good enough to see the islands and enjoy the boat ride.

Worth the trip. It was majestic to vogue around the 1000 Islands on this cruise. Stop over to Boldt castle was great. All well organized. You do need your passport and make sure you don't bring any food along. However, the cruise line will store all of it for you and you can claim it upon return. REALLY worth it.

Aside from the tour of Boldt Castle, the description and commentary on the way out was very eductional and enjoyable.

On the way back it was boring - just some pold country music. They should dedicate the return trip to the War of 1812 and the sites and battles that took place - including the reasons for the war, the tension between France, US, and England. Afterall, Gannanoque was an important site during that conflict, and don't forget, that Gananoque was settled as the result of the Colonial Revolt against the King of England.

At last make use of that return trip to steep us in the rich history of that transportation corridor.

Highly recommend! We had such great time but be aware that you can’t bring food or snacks on the boat only water allowed and don’t forget you passport with you. No food at the castle only one poor cafeteria there before the gate the worst cafeteria I ever seen and people were miserable!

This tour is top notch, from the moment we arrived to the time we disembarked it was great. The trip through the islands, the staff, and the time spent at the castle everything was awesome. I wish we had more time to explore the castle, but we saw everything we could have in the time we had. The staff at the castle was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. Well worth the $$
