About the operator

- MichaelBros0 contributionsA superb tour on the River CamThe last time we were in Cambridge (2018), we used this company (2 couples) and had a great river tour and a really good price. As we have just been back to Cambridge with a couple of friends who had never visited the city, we wanted to share another tour and introduce them to the punting experience. As we were close by on 23rd Sept, we spoke to a number of tour operators to arrange the trip for 24th at a decent price. Although we were given some discounted offers from others, we managed to arrange a private tour for the four of us with the Cambridge Punt Company at a brilliant price which beat all the other quotes easily. Our trip was paid for at the time and arranged for 11.00am on 24th (weather forecast showed it to be a dry, warm day). Our punter of the vessel, Josh, was brilliant. He gave us a very informative commentary throughout, was very friendly, knowledgeable and answered all of our questions relating to the city as well as the history of the buildings. We were all very impressed with Josh as well as the 45/50 minute trip, the price paid and the whole experience. Many thanks to Josh and the Cambridge Punt CompanyWritten September 25, 2024

So being my first time in Cambridge, the consensus was that the must do thing was Punting. I'm not a fan of boats/water, so will admit I was super nervous when I booked this tour as a solo traveller! This fear was rapidly forgotten once taking that first tentative step into the boat however, thanks to the amazing guys who put me at ease, and made this a truly wonderful experience I'll never forget. My guide was Matt, who was so knowledgeable about the history of the area, and threw in a few funny (but terrible!) jokes along the way. I'd recommend this company to absolutely anyone and everyone, don't be pushed into paying through the nose by more aggressive companies, these guys are cheaper but worth every single penny.

Booking online is really easy to do and offers discounts compared to booking in person. The starting point for the tour is a little bit further down the walk way than some of the other companies who were harassing people to book a tour. Booking in the morning is cheaper than the afternoon, it was definitely a quieter time to do the tour.
We chose the shared guided tour which having seen the people who were trying to do it on their own this seemed like it was the less stressful and more enjoyable option! As a family group of 7 there was only us and another couple, who were sat at the end on their own.
The tour lasted just over 45 mins and our guide was very knowledgeable about the area. It was really relaxing, calm and a very enjoyable time. I would definitely recommend this to others staying in the area.
All the staff we encountered were lovely and really friendly.

We booked a shared boat trip online for the following day's trip to Cambridge on the spur of the moment. Easy to book and receive confirmation via email.
We did find it a little tricky to find the company's mobile check in desk, looking for a bike with the logo as shown in the confirmation email, but after asking another punt company, we realised it was tucked behind the La Mimosa restaurant. Check in was simple and we left on time, with only one other passenger on our shared boat. There were quite a few other boats on the river, but it didn't feel overcrowded and we progressed through the water smoothly.
We had a lovely and leisurely punt with a fab animated and interesting narrative from the guy who was punting us (forgotten his name but he was brilliant!). It was a perfect hour on the river, hearing a bit of the history of the college areas we passed through and the bridges we passed under. He didn't follow a script but just chatted us through it all and answered our questions and it felt relaxed and friendly.
Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them for value for money and for the experience.

Beautiful views along the river. Unfortunately our guide couldn’t really be bothered and while punts around us were getting lots of stories about what we were seeing our guide engaged very little. Be aware that if you go on the shared tour, space is very cramped and you may have to sit facing backwards - therefore unable to see anything your guide is pointing out. Also be aware that if you go before lunchtime they are less busy and you can negotiate a better rate than by pre-booking.

Hi Chris,
Looking at the time and date you went punting I can see that you were lucky enough to not be in a full boat. Shared tours can seat up to 12, but your boat had 8 in it. The design of the boats means that some people sit facing forwards and some seated backwards. However, as the tour is a return trip all passengers see all of the sights, and you can always ask the guide any questions along the way.
If you prefer more space our private tours are your best option, or booking a ticket for 6, so you have half the boat to yourselves.
Boats are of a traditional design and made to seat three to a row.
We do offer cheaper tickets in the morning when we are quieter. On the day tickets are almost double the pre booked online tickets. Typically £30/per person. So online tickets are definitely the most economic option.
As for your guide. We will be speaking to him and make sure he is more enthusiastic in the future.
We do hope to see you again in the future. Perhaps for a private tour 😀

We booked on line for a morning guided punt. We picked up a bargain at just £30 - £10 per person.
Because of the previous day (see separate review for scudamores) one of our party had gained ‘celebrity status’.
Our punt was full with us (party of 3) , a husband and wife (party of 2), and in the punt front section a party of 5 (who never interacted with the chauffeur or the rest of us.
Joe, our chauffeur, was brilliant, and we had an informative, often funny, one hour cruise. He made everything come alive with historical facts, quips, and general knowledge on ‘how to punt!’
The hour was soon up
Would we do it again??
Oh yes - without a doubt!

My partner and I went on the punt trip on Saturday, the 9th of April 2022. Our guide was Ryan who was extremely knowledgeable professional friendly and engaging with us. He has many interesting stories to tell I particularly like the one about Prince Charles going to one of the colleges in Cambridge and how his mother had had to beg the college in order to admit him lol I will certainly recommend a tour we very much enjoyed it and was lovely to meet Ryan and chitchat . Ryan is an excellent example of brilliant customer service .

Missed scheduled time by about five minutes due to rail strike. Was charged 20 pounds to reschedule.
Got there about five minutes late due to canceled train and longer travel time for rescheduled train which was due to rail strike (all together had about an hour and a half delay). Charged an additional 20 pounds to go on next trip. Warning, they are very serious about being on time;so plan accordingly or potentially pay full price for next slot.

Thank you for your information. We send a detailed email 24 hours beforehand asking for decent warning if you are going to be late, if you can call us 1 hour prior or more we can usually move you. As you didn’t call us, our tours are shared with other people so do depart on time. If we receive good warning we can usually resell the seats, if we just have a no show the seats go out empty. Like a flight, if you miss it you won’t get another flight for free, as your seats couldn’t be resold.
Typically other companies will insist on new full priced tickets being sold. We tend to just charge a low moving fee.
Please do call us as soon as you know you’ll likely miss the tour. Then we can move your tickets. No call, no show…. We are running a business, and have to charge I’m afraid.

We had an amazing time on our punting tour this week. We had Joe take us and from the start he was helpful given I use crutches, assistance was offered making me feel instantly comfortable and at ease.
The tour itself was fabulous, Joe knew so many facts, and really interesting stories. He was engaging, knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. He gave us time to enjoy the beautiful scenery and the tranquility, and knew when to chat and when to just give us time to enjoy the view and take our photos.
We were a party of 3 and all of us said how amazing it was, and how impressed we were not only with the company but with Joe.
When we got back I was offered help to get up, and really sensible advice on the safest way for me to do that given I use crutches.
I can’t recommend this activity highly enough, if you fancy it make sure you take a camera/camera phone.

We went on a punting tour as part of our day out in Cambridge. It was a Saturday so busy even on the river but our guide, Matt, was amazing at manoeuvring among the other boats while giving the best tour ever. He was fun and was trying to have a conversation with each one of us while he introduced the famous buildings on the riverside. We had a wonderful time and will definitely return!

We booked the shared punting trip with’ let’s go punting’ and I’d happily recommend them. The forty five minute trip was really scenic. Our guide ‘Oli’ was a real professional. He entertained us from the moment we stepped onto the punt and clearly knew his topic although I did think some of his stories were ‘long’ ones but had both my daughter and I laughed the whole trip. Cambridge is a beautiful historic city and seeing some of its treasures from the Cam something I won’t forget. My daughter lives in Cambridge at the moment and said she’d do the trip again so I think that’s an indication of how much we enjoyed. I’d offer one piece of advice: to those budding romantic gentleman who wish to woo their ladies by taking them for an unaccompanied punt …… don’t do it. There’s definitely a skill to punting and I smiled behind my hand at a few would be Romeo’s ( bless them) even the ones who looked physically fit weren’t showing themselves to their advantage, but thanks gents you did add to my enjoyment. Back to being serious we weren’t packed in like sardines either, three groups ion our punt and plenty of room for all of us. The meeting point was easily located and I was sent a text to tell us when to arrive. Definitely a ‘must do’ in a visit to Cambridge in my opinion.

Trip advisor was sending me a lot of messages in my email or text messages on my phone to remind me of the appointment.
Check if your credit card was charged? And there’s a phone number to reach them out, I believe

They operate through the day from ‘stations’ along the river bank. You can also book a time with them to ensure you get on the river when you want to. The trip takes about an hour, an do become popular during the afternoons. We waited for twenty minutes for our time slot on a Saturday. Enjoy.

Hi, I have booked through Tripadvisor but it doesn't say if there is a specified time slot or if we just come at any time?
Written July 31, 2021
Must have a time slot.
The tour guide will give you the time ( prepare for a long wait especially in holiday time,)
You will get a text confirming it and a text 5 minutes before departure time, this time of the year I guess if your late the boat won't wait.
Enjoy it it is 😍lovely
