About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- ekooc0 contributionsHighly RecommendI attended the Uncomfortable Science tour at the Whipple Museum as part of the Cambridge Festival. It was excellent. The two tour guides were engaging, and they received questions well. They used questions and statements along the way as prompts to get the group discussing different ideas, such as women in science, elitism, colonialism. And informative and important tour.Written March 25, 2024
- 221bethanyk0 contributionsFab tour and great way to get you thinkingI highly recommend! It was really informative and a very interesting perspective on Cambridge and the impact the university has had on the city over centuaries. A great way to explore Cambridge and they really make you think by asking questions that prompt you to think outside of the box.Written March 5, 2023
- 91elizaa0 contributionsGreat!Very insightful tour! Stefanie was great tour guide and she created engaging discussions! After the tour, we saw the city and it’s history from a different perspective.Written October 10, 2022
- childishhenrino0 contributionsKnowledge obtained, good walking gainedGreat way to learn about Cambridge's contentious history and how it relates to the present fabric of the city. Guide had all the knowledge and was great for peppering with questions about student life too.Written June 29, 2022

The tour was wonderful. We actually signed up without reading detailed descriptions so we didn't know what to expect on the day. The tour lasted for 1.5 hours and was very informative. A friendly tour guide Peach uncovered the 'ugly' history of Cambridge while walking us through the stunning views. Any discussions and opinions are welcome during the tour and this is a great way to learn more about this city and reflect on its history. Definitely recommend it to all who want to explore this city in an unconventional way!

I finally got around to going on this tour after planning on doing so for quite a while.
We were a very small group (3 not including the guide) and none of us were British which may or may not have impacted on the experience. I admit that I didn't find the contents of the subject matter very uncomfortable but I suspect that this might be due to my age, others might find it triggering. During the 1 hour and 30 min we covered inequality between the rich and poor and between the sexes, Religious and racial conflicts and more. The tour encourages debate and discussion which added a nice twist to events, and all participants chipped in with stories from our own countries: Sweden (me), Australia and the USA. I would have been interested in how a bigger group would have changed the experience and debate. All in all a very pleasurable
and highly recommended experience.

Knowing Cambridge from visiting as a tourist a couple of times and then as a parent of a student I was not sure what to expect from the tour. The existing positive reviews on Trip Advisor fueled my anticipation and expectation and I was not disappointed. Our guide used his knowledge and narrative to help us see the city and its history from a different perspective. The interactive element was also great as it added to the engagement. Our guide was knowledgable and provided us with a wealth of information, also asking our take on various topics brought up. People who had an opinion offered it to the group, lots of food for thought. I learned as much from the guide as from the other people who came on the tour! I loved the content, it covered different themes e.g. slavery, gender, race and more! Highly recommended.

The tour I attended was really thought provoking. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable, and the best thing about it was the way they facilitated discussion within the group. One of my group members was a history teacher, and it was fascinating hearing about how the topics the tour centered around were being addressed in modern schooling. I can't recommend this tour enough - it gives you the opportunity to engage with uncomfortable topics, hear others' viewpoints and learn about Cambridge's history. A great activity for locals and tourists alike.

I've lived in Cambridge for a few years & have taken visitors on plenty of tours and yawned through the usual tall tales and urban myths. This tour was totally different. It went off the beaten track but still got some key sights in. It was thought-provoking and I learned plenty of facts I didn't know despite living here so long. Our guide Leah was knowledgeable, and made the conversations about some difficult topics feel quite engaging and open - and those chats made the walking time fly by. Next time I have visitors, I'll eschew the usual punt tour of the backs and take them on this walking tour instead.

A fascinating tour! Really delves into the history of Cambridge that's so often forgotten. The way it's run is really engaging, in a way that opens up discussions in the group to deal with topics that have no easy answers. Really recommend anyone to go along and hopefully will come away having learnt something!

We joined the original Uncomfortable Cambridge tour on 25/2/23. My son had been bought it as a Christmas present and more of us joined him!
Rose was very informative and we enjoyed the discussion within the group.
We’d love to do do more of the Uncomfortable Cambridge tours.

Finally a different type of tour on such a touristic city with a troubled past. I was glad to hear the other side of history and discuss questions that sometimes people don't like to ask, though (honestly) so obvious if you think about them. Definitely recommended to go off the beaten (touristic) track.

The tour was one of the most informative experiences for me in London. Leah was great; the information delivered was well-researched. It shed light on important aspects about colonialism, feminism and representation of ethnic minorities. I loved it and would recommend it to others also.

The tour is not bad and our guide did a good job. Potentially, I hoped for more unique content, given it's not cheap, maybe being taken inside buildings and told some little known facts, otherwise it felt as if it's designed for children or tourists who so far only heard positive things about Cambridge University and history in general. It's a pleasant walk around the city centre, and a few facts were curious.
