Overview
Exploring the southern Lake District in winter means relying on public buses or driving on potentially icy roads. This half-day, small-group tour lets you focus on the often snow-capped scenery without transport worries. Retrace the steps of Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter in Hawkshead, discover Tarn Hows and the Yewdale Valley, and cruise Lake Windermere with a guide for commentary and insights. A choice of departure points offers flexibility.
What to Expect
Book your preferred pickup option and settle inside your air-conditioned mini-coach.

Stop at Hawkshead, a whitewashed village dating to the 14th century. Hear how it grew around a wool market and how the children’s author Beatrix Potter lived nearby. Enjoy free time to stroll the cobbled lanes, browse for souvenirs, and see Hawkshead Grammar School, once attended by the young William Wordsworth.

Continue to Tarn Hows, a mirror-glass tarn (small lake) enfolded in pine-coated hills that might be covered in snow. Admire the tarn and its backdrop of fells before driving through lakeside Coniston and the Yewdale Valley. Admire the gorgeous countryside and perhaps glimpse Yew Tree Farm, used as Beatrix Potter’s house in the movie Miss Potter.

Finally, join a Lake Windermere cruise from Waterhead to Bowness Bay, drinking in magnificent unobstructed views from the water toward the Langdales. Then, return ashore and end your tour at the starting point.

Wow! What a fantastic tour. We started off with a boat ride from Bowness, and the onboard 'Winter warmer' is definitely worth trying. We were collected from Ambleside by the guide, who gave a very good commentary throughout. It made the drive round much more...More

Fantastic tour.

We decided on this last minute. Peter was our guide, we were just 4 in the bus. Peter was extremely nice and friendly. Stopped at multiple places so we got best of pics. Definitely recommended.

We unfortunately had only one day to tour around the Lake District. This tour gave us an excellent overview around the area and lot's of idea for our next, hopefully longer visit to the Lake District. We were very lucky with the weather, with wonderfully...More
