    June Trip
We had a great time with Johann riding through beautiful countryside and neighborhoods. Thank you for making sure two out of shape Alaska travelers made it to the end and remember you promised not to speak of our unfortunate "wall" incident.

Don't miss out out! Worth every penny!
An amazing day spent exploring parts of the Highlands of Scotland! Included in our e-bike tour were visits to many historical sites. Johann was very knowledgeable about the history of Scotland and even how this history influences Scotland's modern day culture! He was great! Johann was very attentive and engaging throughout this special trip!

    Biking in National Park
Johann was absolutely amazing tour guide. He went above and beyond and made us feel like family. Not only was the biking and views spectacular, Johann shared the rich history of Scotland. The restaurant at lunch was top notch. The whole experience from beginning to end will be remembered forever. Highly recommend this trip and company.

E-bike day out Edinburgh to Roslin on Edinburgh’s amazing cycle routes
Our second trip hiring e-bikes from Johann at the Tartan Bicyle Company. Again, Johann delivers them to our door in Edinburgh, with locks, helmets, tools and panier and off we went, on Edinburghs amazing cycle network. The route we chose was mainly on the cycle route ending at Roslin, but we did divert to see Mavisbank House at Polton, and that included roads and a path along the river. It was nice to see Roslin Chapel again after many years, then we turned around and came back. A quick call to Johann to let him know we were back, and he arrived in 10 minutes to collect. A wonderful day out and we’ll be back. Thanks again Johann, Sarah and Andrew

    Excellent Highland Bike Ride
Johann was a great guide he picked us up and dropped us off near our Airbnb. We used the manual bikes and had a lovely ride on a nice and sunny day. We highly recommend booking a tour with Johann. It's a great way to see the Highlands and get out of the city. If you're active cyclist you'll find the Highland ride is at a leisurely pace and great for enjoying the scenery. The lunch stop also had good food and we recommend getting the fish and chips.

    Outstanding service
Outstanding service! Excellent bikes! Ergonomic, comfortable, easy to use, We rented e-bikes from Johann for a self guided trip. Johann was helpful before, during and at the end up the trip. We had to change our pick up and drop off locations and he was flexible and understanding. Would recommend 100%

Highest quality bikes and excellent customer service
We hired bikes for a self guided ride and the whole experience was excellent. The bikes were high quality and immaculate, and Johann was so helpful in giving advice and was very personable. We would highly recommend TBC and are already planning our next trip with them.

Forth Bridges in the Spring - A tour worth the praise
Had a great tour with Johann, we got lucky with the weather being mostly calm and sunny-ish. The route was great and not too demanding when using E-bikes (a few hills that could've been a bit challenging on a regular hybrid bike). Everything went smooth from pick up to drop off and we really enjoyed hearing about the places during the tour but also hearing about places we passed while driving to and from the starting point. If you're someone who likes to cycle and see new places while enjoying nature we'd highly recommend this tour and as a matter of fact any tour with Johann. Having a professional guide who is also a wonderful human makes the tour even better.

    Worth every penny
If I could give a rating above "excellent" for this experience, I would. My wife and I loved this tour. Our only complaint is that we wish we'd been able to keep riding longer. The service and professionalism of the tour guide, Johan, was great and went out of his way to put together a memorable tour and make everything work. He knows the area and was able to answer all of our questions and help us get to know the country better. We'd spent most of our visit to Scotland in the cities, so this was a great opportunity to see the countryside while not cooped up in a motor vehicle. I would definitely recommend going on the extra hike that is optional on the itinerary. It's a steep climb but the view is more than worth it. Bike tours are the best way to see both cities and countryside -- you are going slow enough that you can soak up the scenery but going fast enough that we get to see lots of different places and experience the areas. This bike tour was a great way to explore a small part of the national park while getting a taste of the beauty of the Scottish Highlands. Always book a bike tour when in Europe, and if you're in the area, book this tour too. It's worth a full day.

Great e-bike tour with the best guide!
This was a wonderful e-bike tour through beautiful countryside. Johann runs a one-man operation and took us on a great ride that was exhilarating but not difficult. There were multiple stops to look at the views and for a leisurely lunch in a great little restaurant, as well as a beautiful half-hour hike up through the forest to a historic viewpoint. The bikes were in great shape and we had no issues. He constantly thought about our needs and making the tour perfect for us. Highly recommended!

    Highland Bike Tour October 2023
We had a great ride with Johann recently on the Highlands Bike Tour. Pickup was prompt right outside our hotel. The van is spacious and comfortable. The route is beautiful and the e-bikes made it feel like we could go on for hours, even with the hills. There is a stop at a small cafe in the middle of the tour with a reasonably priced and delicious menu. We really enjoyed the stops to Doune Castle and the short hike above Balquhidder Kirk and all of the knowledge Johann shared about the history of the area. We were in the UK for 10 days, many of them spent in cities, so being able to go out into the Highlands and experience the beautiful natural scenery was a real highlight of our trip.

The bikes were amazing to bike with! Everything needed was included and everything worked how it should be working. Would definitely rent again, when biking in Scotland.

Enjoyable Scottish Highlands and Trossachs Guided Bike Tour Sept '23
My mother, girlfriend, and I had a wonderful experience with Johann and the Tartan Bicycle Company (Tartan Bike Tours) in the Scottish Highlands, Sept 2023. Johann picked us up at our accommodation in his red support van, provided all the necessary cycling gear (outside of clothing), and drove us 2-hrs north of Edinburgh to Pitlochry. He is a capable and thoughtful guide, supporting us with guidance (pre-programmed Garmin), food, and repairs (flats happens). Tartan offers a good selection of bicycles from e-bikes for mom (64F) to speedier options for me (33M). He mentioned he will also have Gravel Bikes for rent. There are some really nice trails in that area for all sorts of cycling enthusiasts and Johann offered insightful knowledge of many different options. There was one section of trail where Johann rode with us for a bit to help us ford a small mudslide blocking the path. He is truly connected to the trails and has good feeling/experience to anticipate any issues that may arise. Can't say thanks enough, we had an amazing experience and enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Cheers!

A really fantastic cycling adventure for our family hosted by Johann. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and got to see the city from all different aspects, with so many interesting facts shared throughout our ride.
A great start to our short break away with us seeing parts of the city where we would never have ventured ourselves. Some great tips of some walks to do over the next few days too!
We would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to really see the city.

The highlight of our brilliant trip to Edinburgh. Johann was an excellent tour guide. He picked us up from our accommodation and gave us an excellent cycle tour of the beautiful city of Edinburgh. The bikes were in excellent condition and easy to use.
From the beautiful coastline, through Holyroyd Park, up past Arthur's seat, along the canal
to the docks in Leith and along many of the old railway lines, Johann shared a great range of interesting facts about the city and personalised the trip for us well.
We will look to do another tour with Johann when we return to Edinburgh and would highly recommend the experience to others.

Thoroughly enjoyed our day with our tour guide Johann! He is very personable, caring, patient and he's knowledgeable about Edinburgh's history and sites. He makes sure everyone is having fun. You and the other tour participants will be picked up by van from your accommodations starting at 9am. After everyone has been gathered up, you will head to the starting point (around 10am) and Johann will equip you with your bike and helmet. He will also provide you with instructions on how to operate everything. Unless you're an active cyclist, I recommend you rent the e-bikes, due to the very hilly terrain. Bring your own rain gear and gloves if needed as there may not be enough for the entire group nor the correct sizes. You don't stop for lunch, so bring something to drink and some convenient snacks if you need to. The tour lasts about 4 hours and should end at approximately 2pm. You'll experience everything from cycling to the top of tall hills (where you'll have amazing views of Edinburgh and surrounding areas, various lakes and on clear days you can even see the Scottish Highlands), riding through city neighborhoods, New Town and riding along the beach. It's a great way to see a large area in a short amount of time. We've been on several similar tours in different countries and we agree that this was one of the best!

This was the highlight of our trip to Edinburgh. Johann picked up my husband, son, and me at our flat and drove us to the start point on a bike path near Old Town. We wound our way through the city, nearly entirely on paths through parks, beside canals, and out along the Firth of Forth. Johann navigated masterfully, with stops to point out landmarks and give a bit of history and background. It was fairly easy going with a few hills and one longer (but not terribly steep) climb as we wound around Arthur's Seat. A couple of cyclists walked their bikes up the last bit of that climb; I managed to bike it in the absolute lowest gear, no quicker than walking really; anyway, it wasn't very long and not much of a wait for the ones who'd powered up it more rapidly. I think this would be an enjoyable ride for most cyclists who are comfortable on trails with some roads, and I can't imagine a better way to see the city.

What an awesome tour with Johann. He made it fun, very informative, easy going , helpful, gave us all water bottles to keep & a snack, we felt cared for and safe. The bikes are primo! We rode nice legit bikes. Could not believe how much we saw of Edinburgh in this tour, he knows routes even the locals prob don’t know. Book this tour!!! It was loads of fun. We did this our first day so we would get the lay of the city. Highly recommend. A few hills , but he allowed for some to walk the bike if necessary and they never felt bad about walking. The others waited for them and we took pics. Only our group of 4 plus another couple. Easy to keep up with him. Can’t say enough good about this tour.

From the moment we met Johann, we knew we were in for a treat. He took care to introduce all of us to each other, which was such a nice touch, and throughout the ride, he continually made sure we were comfortable and safe on the paths and street. We so enjoyed getting to see so much of the city through the eyes of someone like him—with endless stories about different buildings (and burial sites). His e-bikes were sturdy and simple to use, again emphasizing that he puts care into the experience of us riders. (Like many other reviewers, we do recommend the e-bike too for the option for a turbo boost on a hill—lol!) Thank you, Johann, for an unforgettable time and for sharing your extensive knowledge of good places to eat!

Every aspect of our tour was first class - great communication from booking to the minute Johann collects you at your location. Bikes are very good quality and Johann ensures everything 'fits' and everyone is ok before you set off on your scenic and very informative tour around the city. Traveling by bike means you see so much more with regular stops at interesting places. Humour and smiles are the order of the day and without doubt Johann richly deserves a 5 star rating - I can't recommend highly enough.

Johann was a wonderful guide … despite a range of biking capabilities in our group, he worked hard to make each experience personal and the entire group engaged. The prior “5 star” reviews are accurate … varied and beautiful scenery, history, and fun conversation. The tour gave us a chance to experience so much of Edinburgh not visible from days and shops along the “Royal Mile”. Another plus … my wife and I hadn’t used an e-bike before, and they are simple to use, powerful on the hills or flats, and in excellent condition. Our tour was almost 6 hours, so do coordinate with Johann if you have other commitments to manage. Hope you are as lucky as we were with fair skies and sunshine!

We had an awesome day touring Edinburgh by bike with Johann. We saw so much of the city and surrounding areas that we otherwise wouldn’t have known to visit. Definitely recommend this tour for those looking to get some fresh air, stretch their legs a bit and explore!

We did the Edinburgh "Sky to Sea" E-bike tour today. It was a great day out and we visited many parts of Edinburgh that I had never actually seen before, despite spending my university years here, winding through miles and miles of cycle paths led by our superb tour guide Johann. This is definitely the bike tour company to choose and their many 5 star ratings are well deserved.
