Newgrange and Hill of Tara Day Trip from Dublin

Combine the best sights of the Boyne Valley and the history of Celtic Ireland on a coach tour from Dublin—a great way to escape the city without renting a car. Travel with ease between dispersed highlights such as the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Newgrange, the Hill of Tara, and the quaint town of Howth, and listen to information crucial to understanding the history of each landmark from a guide.

What to Expect

Meet your departing coach at a central meeting point in Dublin, and  then climb on board and find a comfortable seat for the journey to the Boyne Valley. As your guide takes care of the navigation, you're free to focus on the scenic drive through County of Meath.

Stop at the Hill of Tara, where your guide goes into detail about the political and spiritual history of this place. As you explore the ancient monuments for yourself, learn about the hill's history from the Stone Age through the 19th century.

Newgrange, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is your next stop. Disembark and follow your guide into the cairn and take a tour of the passage tomb, filled with Neolithic stone carvings and basins, once sacred receptacles for human remains. Your guide explains the ancient site and its uses throughout ancient history.

The journey back to Dublin stops in the quaint seaside village of Howth, which features views of Dublin Bay and some Viking-era monuments.

After getting an overview of the Boyne Valley, along with its longstanding history, return to Dublin for drop-off at your original departure location.

Newgrange with Eoin

Eoin was funny and silly and very knowledgeable. He was also a responsible guide that took care of his passengers while teaching and entertaining them.

Our tour guide stopped early that morning for a break in Howth where we got coffee, and then there is a restaurant at Newgrange where you can have lunch.

If there's time and space on the road, they stop for a few minutes to let you take photos and tell you about it, but otherwise you go straight past.
