- 1We will start this tour at a place where the guillotine, a gruesome accessory of the French revolution, took its toll with thousands of victims’ severed heads. This will be the opportunity to learn and “revive” this horrendous episode of French history know as “Grand Terror”. At the end of a short informative walk following the guillotine’s bloody trail, the Grail will be the eeriest Parisian spot ever where the victims are still buried: a fairly sized private estate with a countryside touch to it that shelters an impressive old cemetery with emblazoned graves of the wealthy centuries-old nobility. There peacefully rests the heroic marquis of Lafayette, hero of the U.S. war of Independence, whose deeds influenced America's destiny. Amidst the eeriness of this place, you’ll realize how French and Americans are closely connected through each other’s past. More than getting a history course, you will truly experience a meaningful moment. Oddly, you’ll come out of it with an uplifting sense of awe, of bliss, of peacefulness!
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Angelinna0 contributionsFantastic Tours!!My husband, teenage son and I had the pleasure of touring Paris with Milan for two days. He is one of the finest guides ever to slip on a pair of shoes. Having traveled around the world and used the services of numerous tour operators has made it easy for us to discern what it takes to be a guide of high quality. Milan impressed us immediately because he was on time (unlike us) and willing to accommodate all our needs including untimely breaks so our son could get snacks or finding a store where my husband could buy soccer jerseys. While we waited for our child to eat, Milan showed us maps, told stories and provided information about the day ahead. Milan demonstrated profound knowledge of the historical sites we saw while showcasing a pleasing personality. If there was a slight disagreement on facts, he was not insulted. Instead, he researched what was necessary and clarified our doubts. In addition, Milan made sure to show us all the requested sites and more. We never felt pressured to hurry although the two tours went past the agreed time. Milan is a man you wish could be your neighbor or friend. If you are going to Paris and beyond, do not hesitate to hire Milan. You will be in for a treat!Written June 30, 2024
- 350aprilk0 contributionsA true "taste" of Paris. The Paris markets are a cornucopia of wonderful sights, smells and tastes, and Milan knows where each and every one of them is on which day of the week. Our market stroll and picnic was such a delight. It was so refreshing to do something non-touristy. The vendors kept offering us tastes of their goods, and it seemed like Milan knew all of them! Our picnic setting was idyllic and, of course, the cheese was magnifique! Along the way, Milan shared some of his extensive knowledge of the French Revolution and pointed out sights relating to that period in French history. This was our second day with Milan, and we would do more. Pick any of his tours. You won't regret it.Written June 22, 2024
- 350aprilk0 contributionsYou can't go wrong with Milan!MIlan is an awesome tour guide. He knows the ins and outs of Paris - the people, history, culture, customs, and, of course, the language. Having lived in the U.S for many years, he is also familiar with the customs and culture there and easily flows back and forth between the two. He can take you to all of the major attractions, of course, but also show you the little nooks and crannies of local life - like the flea market!!! We would definitely tour again with Milan and advise anyone else to do so, as well.Written June 22, 2024
- T1487CWjenniferd0 contributionsBEST EXPERIENCE IN FRANCE!Milan treated us like friends visiting his country! We had an amazing experience thanks to him. He guided us perfectly to where we needed to go, gave us great information and history about each location. We would not have known how to make our way around these cities without him! Giverney was my favorite, Monet’s house truly stunning and following St. Joan of Arc’s footsteps were incredible. We enjoyed exceptional experiences and are grateful to Milan for making our trip even more special!! We would recommend him 1,000%!!!!Written April 28, 2024
- V4321HDmaryb0 contributionsSpend a Fun Day in Paris with Milan! Our day with Milan was amazing! He communicated beforehand so we were clear with the day's plan, and met us at our hotel right on time. Milan toured us around Paris in a professional, but personal and fun manner. He maneuvered us around via taxis, the subway and a city bus, so we were able to see all the main sites seamlessly and efficiently. Our weather wasn't always agreeable, but he managed to keep us out of the worst of it with stops at sites along the way that provided shelter where he could share historical information with us. I wouldn't hesitate to tour with Milan again and would wholeheartedly recommend his tour for first time Paris visitors, or those that want a private and fun experience!!Written April 17, 2024
- eugenietravel0 contributionsExcellent Tour in RouenThis tour with Milan of With Love From Paris tours, was one of the best tours I have ever been on. - I9301PVkellys0 contributionsHire Milan! You will not regret it!We had one day to see Paris together as my boyfriend was in town on business and invited me to join. We were going to do the HoHo and Milan caught my eye as a private tour director. I read many reviews all raving about the tour and how it was worth it. They saw everything and things they never knew were there. That caught my eye! I must say the reviews were 100% correct. He met us in our hotel lobby and we were off for a day full of laughs, history and more. We will come back and hire Milan again. He’s the best of the best. Don’t hesitate you will not be sorry!Written February 27, 2024
- T8313EKrobertg0 contributions100% Amazing TourWe had the most spectacular day with With Love From Paris. We did the Rouen Day trip with Joan of Arc highlights. It was the best tour of our trip. Milan was a fantastic guide. He was extremely knowledgeable and easy to listen to. He kept us engaged and interested the entire day. Time flew by. I would highly recommend him and his company to anyone traveling to Paris or the surrounding areas. You won’t find better.Written February 11, 2024

- 887yashd0 contributionsAwesome experience of a French market and a picnic! The market, the smells and the experience of seeing fresh, stunning produce from fruits to meats to cheeses was amazing. Milan provided interesting trivia and information about the markets and the source of each and everything we got. The trip to a boulangerie for fresh baguette and eclairs was super fun! The picnic spot was very quaint, especially the lovely chickens who accompanied us on the walk!Written January 28, 2024
- Cagefighting_Pacman0 contributionsAn amazing tour with an even more amazing guide! This was without a doubt the best tour I have ever been on (and I’ve been on a few) while the tour itself was amazing, what made it far beyond anything I’ve experienced so far was our guide, Milan. Hands down Milan is a true professional and created a magical day that we will never forget. From the communication prior to the tour, to the little touches along the way Milan made this day for us smooth, educational, wonderful and memorable. We were met by Milan exactly where directed, and smoothly boarded our train, Milan providing many points of interest along the way. My partner and I travelled with two young children and Milan made sure that they were entertained the whole journey and even surprised us all by buying them a bag of chocolates from one of the stores in Rouen. We chose this tour to see Rouen and learn about Joan of Arc. We were not disappointed, this was a terrific insight into all things Joan of Arc and I for one learned a lot more than I knew prior. But it didn’t stop there, the history of Paris, France, Rouen, and many more were all passed to us by Milan throughout the day. His knowledge and passion for his country and its history was astounding. We will definitely travel back to France in the future and would not hesitate to take another tour with Milan, a wonderful guide and true professional. At the conclusion of our journey Milan escorted us to the nearest taxi making sure we were safely in the car and informed our driver of or hotel. There was not a single thing for us to worry about the entire day. Absolutely fabulous!!Written January 28, 2024

Milan was very knowledgeable and was able to keep the attention of everyone in my family. He ensured that we saw all the best of Paris and showed us beautiful landmarks! My family and I were completely happy with this tour. Milan even walked us to the train platform and ensured we got on the right train to get back to our hotel! All I can say is that when we go back to Paris we will be calling up Milan for more tours :)Written December 2, 2023
- Happiness437081350260 contributionsFrom Paris to Rouen....OohLaLaWe had a wonderful day touring Rouen with Milan . Milan gave us a historic and current perspective of all we saw. His sense of humor and ease of conversation was relaxing. From the time we sat on the Train until we sadly said Au Revoir the day was exceptional. The sites and the food will not be forgotten. Looking forward to taking more tours with Milan in the years to come.Written October 25, 2023
- Donna195560 contributionsBeautifulWhat a wonderful adventure. Our tour guide, Milan, is kind, and extremely knowledgeable. On this tour we traveled, by train, not only to Rouen, but also to Giverny and toured the home and gardens of Monet. This was our first trip outside of Paris and it was beautiful. This tour made our trip to France very special… thanks to Milan. Do not miss out on this tour. Be sure, if possible, to ask for Milan.Written October 18, 2023

I live in Paris, and I learned so much from Milan's fantastic U.S. and French revolutionary history tour. He gives a lot of detail and context from this period of Paris' history and you will never see the city the same way again. This tour takes you to a really special, very private part of Paris that most people will never even realize it's there. Milan's expertise and passion for his subject shines through and will keep all members of your family fully engaged. I took the tour with an age range of 12 to 78 and everyone really enjoyed it. Highly recommend!

Milan did this tour for us and it was phenomenal! It was a surprise for my husband on our 30th wedding anniversary. Milan kept the topic of the tour secret until the reveal at Lafayette’s grave. Milan is super knowledgeable, informative and really good company. I could not recommend this more!!

My husband and I have visited Paris many times. We have explored the city in depth, but we were totally unaware about these hidden treasures within the 12th Arrondissement.
Milan, founder of With Love From Paris Tours, suggested the Tour of US and French Revolution with General Lafayette after he found out about my husband's love of history. And we were so delighted that we followed through on it.
Much of the tour takes place at Picpus Cemetery, the final resting place of General Lafayette, and the mass burial site for 1.306 victims executed during the last six weeks of the Reign of Terror. Milan makes history come to life, when he tells the stories of what happened during the French Revolution....and Lafayette's role in both that and the American Revolutionary War.
Milan is such a wonderful tour guide (nice, thoughtful, extremely knowledgable) that my husband and I look forward to going on more tours with him. He is, without a doubt, the most incredible tour guide that we have ever worked with.

What a fantastic tour, especially if you are a French Revolution history buff!! Milan, our guide, was very knowledgeable in explaining what lead up to the revolt and its consequences. He showed many sites that we would never have been to find on our own, like the chapel where the names of those guillotined in the Nation arrondissement were listed - date, name occupation, etc. as well as the private burial plots and mass graves of those 1300+ victims. Very moving. Also, the grave of Lafayette, who fought for the Americans during our revolution. I highly recommend any tour offered by Milan, as his knowledge and charm were extensive. I can't wait to return to Paris and book another tour with him.

We did the tour of Paris with Milan and it was so wonderful and my teenage boys enjoyed it so much that we decided to do this one. Milan is incredibly knowledgeable about history and we all learned so much. This is a great tour if you want something unique, and not touristy, and away from the crowds. The private cemetary was beuatiful and peaceful. Milan, was the perfect host. He is so lovely, and down to earth and fun to be with.

Even though this was not our original plan for our visit, we are so glad we got to see this very special place. We loved the gardens, and learned a lot about the history behind this amazing and somber piece of land. Thank you Milan for allowing us to see the final resting place of General LaFayette, and for an unforgettable day in Paris!

I have to question this description in the tour: " Only families of the wealthy nobility whose kin have been beheaded during the French revolution are allowed to rest under their emblazoned graves" My understanding is that this was a former convent taken over by the revolution and bodies were buried in a pit that later became the cemetery. Is that not correct?
Written October 22, 2018
They have dug up pit behind the cemetery and is fenced in. According to our tour guide, who is French it is a quiet affair and gated so that families or robbers won’t try to take anything from there (like retrieving bodies).
