WOW is all we can say about our food tour with Betsy in Montmarte!!! She was extremely knowledgeable about the area, and the food selections she shared with our family of 4 was AMAZING. The sites and stories about the artist and history of the area were very informative. Honestly our time with Betsy made the tour feel like we were just exploring the area with an amazing friend who felt like an extinction of our family. She was wonderful with our kids who were 15 and 12 and her hospitality was impeccable!!! We give this an 11 out of 10 and say it was worth every penny. Again the food was AMAZING!!! One of our favorite tours hands down, and wonderful way to end our trip to Paris!

Rachel is super professional. It was just my husband and I in the afternoon tour and she showed up on time, did not cancel, and gave us her undivided attention. The weather was very cold and in fact it had just snowed the day before, but this did not stop her from being cheerful and excited about showing us around. She’s passionate and knowledgeable about French food and French traditions and explained everything covered in the food tour in detail. Also, she answered all our questions and made the evening more enjoyable by sharing her own views, experiences, and opinions about what makes French cuisine so unique. Thanks Rachel. We highly recommend her and this tour.

If you are hesitating about taking this tour and you make the decision, you will never regret it. This is one of the best tours in Paris or should I say Montmarte. The groups are deliberately kept small so that the experience will be intimate and friendly. Rachel was our tour guide, who is a published writer and established food critic. As a former chef, I could not have been more thrilled with her choices.
We made many food stops and the tastings included savory crêpes, oysters, macaroons, chocolates, choux, and cordon bleu.
Shucking oysters at Ephram’s restaurant was my very first job as a teenager, and as self-proclaimed aficionado I can tell you that european oysters taste completely different than american oysters. We also sampled several libations, which included champagne, chardonnay, and cider that has a completely different flavor than how they taste in the states. We were quite blessed to have an experienced food critic as our guide.
Rachel is a rising star. I would like to venture to this place again in 10 years to see the seeds of success that she has sewn.
The tour is three hours long, and time went too quickly, Like I said, if you make the decision to take this tour, you will never regret it.

Beyond a walking tour, this is immersion into the neighborhood of Monmartre without hitting one tacky touristy spot. Chef PJ is a force of nature, greeting his community affectionately all day long while teaching us about how to buy the best that Paris, particularly this neighborhood, has to offer, and why to come here for the best. After talking, walking, and some tasting we were treated to a four course meal in his tiny restaurant, with amply flowing wine, also with education about the quality, how to discern the quality, and how to enjoy it. Following some bubbly, we walked some more for desserts (plural). The group of course develops great conviviality along the way. We are seasoned travelers and this tour was by far one of the best, valuewise, and knowledge-wise (if thats a word.) We all agreed Chef PJ should have his own tv show.

We booked the tour with Chef PJ based on a recommendation from a friend who took his tour in March 2023. We are so glad we took her advice! Wow and WOW! What a fun, educational, delicious day! PJ was so entertaining and so knowledgeable about Montmartre and the various food shops he took us to (boulangerie, poultry, meat, cheese, fruits and vegetables, and wine). He seemed to know everyone and was greeted enthusiastically as we ran into his friends. Chef PJ topped off our wonderful day by preparing a delectable dinner and serving excellent wine. We felt welcomed to Montmartre in all the best possible ways. Truly one of the most delightful tours we could have booked! Thanks, Chef PJ!

We always try to book a culinary tour when we visit a city or region for the first time. Some have been good, some have been average, never have we experienced a poor tour. And this tour kept that streak alive. It was fabulous.
Our tour guide Lulu had a wonderful balance of imparting knowledge about the region’s culinary delights along with a balanced overview of the history of the region. The small artisan shops we visited would have been impossible to suss out on our own and each was so worth the visit. What was also unexpected and very appreciated was rather than sampling the wares of each shop in place, Lulu gathered the meats and cheeses and presented them as a charcuterie board at the wine cave on the tour.
Obviously this is the only culinary tour we have been on in the Paris region so we do not know if it is the best, but we can say we could see no obvious ways our tour could have been improved.

We had so much fun on the Eating Europe food tour with Betsy! She was absolutely amazing and shared all the best tastes of Paris while also giving us the history and background for each area we visited in Montmartre. We came hungry and left full and satisfied with a new love and appreciation for French culture and cuisine. At the end of the tour, she gave us several recommendations to experience our remaining time in Paris. I definitely recommend this to anyone traveling to Paris.

My husband and I did the Montmarte tour with Claire a couple of weeks ago. This was our last activity after a weeklong stay in Paris. Of everything we did during our trip, I felt that this tour gave us the best glimpse into what it could look like to actually live in Paris. This is so much more than a food tour - we learned about history, culture, traditions, etc of the city. Unfortunately we had a cold and rainy day, but I still thought the pace was comfortable and the day was pleasant. The tour consists mostly of popping into different shops and purchasing small foods - bread, cheese, meats, etc. We also sampled some baked goods during this time. Eventually, we sat down at a small restaurant where all of our purchases were arranged into a charcuterie and cheese plate and we ate this along with samples of wines. The format gave us the chance to chat with shop owners and the owner of the restaurant in a relaxed and informal way. The food was plentiful - we weren’t able to finish everything. But, we never felt uncomfortable like I have on some food tours. We finished by wandering around Montmarte and our guide ended the tour by leaving us on the steps of Sacre coure where we were able to continue on our own. I truly loved this tour and hope to repeat in other parts of the city when we return to Paris.

Dear Kim,
It sounds like you had a fantastic and memorable experience on the Montmartre tour with Claire! I'm so glad to hear that it offered such a personal and immersive glimpse into Parisian life, beyond just the food. Even with the rainy weather, it seems like the tour was still comfortable and enjoyable. The relaxed format with stops at different shops, sampling local delicacies, and ending with a charcuterie and wine experience really seems like the perfect way to get a true taste of the area. We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed the combination of food, history, and culture, and we can’t wait for you to experience more tours in Paris on your next visit!

My girlfriend and I went to Paris a few months ago and signed up for PJ's food tour for one of the days - it was the best day of our trip! PJ was a fantastic host and made the day an unforgettable one for us both. He has a really entertaining style and is clearly very passionate and knowledgable about his craft. We learnt a lot and had an excellent day - would very highly recommend his tour to anyone.

PJ is a character of wonder. My daughter (college) and I were completely mesmerised by the half day spent with him on a sunny Saturday. Montmarte was thronged with tourists but we had a truly local experience. PJ stopped at artisan shops, starting with patisserie, then frammage, meat, wine, a lunch at his absolutely beautiful little restaurant, complete with a visit and taste of macaron and crepe shops. The visits were peppered with stories of local people, histories of French food (eg., why is baguette always 250m?), evolution of food industry regulations and technique (eg., animal passport, biodynamic wine making), all in all a blast of senses, minds, and laughs! Would recommend to even seasoned Paris visitors.

We can only do the tour on July 15th (2 adults, 2 kids) Anyone know if there is a cancellation list we could be put on? Thanks!
Written July 12, 2022
Not sure. Maybe pop into his restaurant, "Petit Moulin" (It's a very small place), the day before (opens at 4:00) and ask him. I know we had a couple no shows on our tour, so perhaps you could show up at meeting spot just in case that happens.
