Experience Efate's outer islands with a stunning half day trek on Nguna and an afternoon swim at Pele. At Nguna, you have a choice which walk you do (you must choose your walk before you depart). The Volcano Walk takes you atop one of Nguna’s extinct volcanoes, Mt Marou (472m), where you will be rewarded with sweeping views across the Shepherd Islands to the north, and south to Efate. Parts of the walk are steep and it takes 3 ½ hours on average. Or just take an easier Village Walk, adapted to your fitness level, to explore either upland or coastal villages. After the morning walk, enjoy a buffet lunch by the beach on neighbouring Pele Island and then swim and snorkel the lagoon or reef.

        Perfect afternoon
The guides were very social, caring. And although slightly late, the trip to rentapoo river was smooth. The kayaking was a lot of fun in a beautiful area. Equipement was good. And the fruit platter after was just perfect. Definitely recommend this 3’ish hour tour.

        Great day out
Rainbow Roy & Berry were excellent tour guides. They gave us a bank of knowledge about Vanuatu and were very friendly during our tour. The river is absolutely stunning, full of fish and a mix of sea water and fresh water. We loved jumping off the rope swing and then feeding the fish at the end of the tour. Definitely recommend doing this tour if you are looking for a fun relaxing day.

Wonderful time on Nguna and Pele Islands
We did the Outer Islands tour to Pele and Nguna Islands last weekend and loved it! Our guide, Roy, was exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful and the local villagers provided great meals and a very comfortable bungalow for our 2 night stay. We were able to enjoy a village tour on Nguna and time at the beach with the village children on Pele in the afternoons. A special treat was the chance to swim with a dugong just off the beach near the village and then watch it and another dugong racing the full length of the beach! We would highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants to experience and learn about island life and culture.

Lovely way to spend a quiet morning.
This was a lovely, relaxed way to spend the morning. My kids loved it too. The river is quiet and the paddling is easy. Our guides, Fira and Tacky, were informative, easygoing and consummately professional.

        Great tour over beautiful river
My family was visiting Port Vila for a week and decided this would be a nice thing to do on our final full day in Vanuatu. Their bus picked us up from our hotel (they have a van and an open-backed truck), and drove us to their beautiful spot next to the Rentapao River. The tour guides, Fira and Tacky were extremely friendly and helpful, and knew heaps of cool things about the river and things around it. They have one or two person kayaks, and you can put your bags in the storage place for kayaks once you set off (there is also a small shelf in the one person kayaks that fits a water bottle, sunscreen etc..). The tour itself was great, the water was lovely and the trees and shrubbery by the riverbank were beautiful. The tour goes up to a beautiful small, gentle waterfall which a great spot for pictures. After we got back to the landing, we got to go to a small pond and feed a myriad of different fish, along with one stingray. There were so many fish, all of different colours and sizes!! After that we were given some refreshments in the form of delicious fruits and fresh lime juice. We even got to see some pigs that live on the property and help get rid of fruit peels, which was great. Overall a great experience and only takes the morning or afternoon.

        Peaceful floating down the river
We spent a pleasant couple of hours floating along the river with our knowledgeable guide. The paddling was very easy and there was choice of single or double kayaks. Afterwards there was a light snack of fruit and then we chose to go on to the cascades for lunch (sandwiches) and a swim at the waterfall. Make sure you take sunscreen because although the photos look like you are paddling through a forest, at least half is no under a tree canopy. There is a basic toilet at the paddling location (no paper or soap) but at the cascades there is a clean toilet with paper and soap. It was a nice trip for something a little different from the beach and the guides were very informative.

Thankyou Vanuatu ecotours for a spectacular full day trip to Nguna and Pele islands.
I was picked up from my resort resort at 7am in a beautifully clean air conditioned van and we made our way to the other side of the island (this is a slow trip at times due to many potholes in the roads), picking up a few more guests on the way to the boat ramp to catch the boat over to the islands. After a short wait here while some locals loaded essential supplies into some boats, we enjoyed the 20min trip over to Nguna where we split into 2 groups, 1 staying on Nguna for the hike and the other heading to Pele for a village walk. The hike through rainforest and wild grasslands was steep and difficult in places, taking about 2.5hours to reach the top, but taking it slow with lots of breaks we made it to the top to soak in the amazing 360degree views over Efate, Moso, Lelepa and lots of other smaller islands. The trip back down was easier, taking a little over 30minutes. Then it was back on the boat for a short trip over to Pele where we were greeted by locals who had prepared a delicious lunch of chicken curry, baked fish, salad, rice, sweet potato and fruit.
Then onto the snorkeling in the crystal clear blue water seeing lots of colourful fish, crabs, clams, corals, sea anemones and urchins. And yes the water here is as blue as the pictures show!!
It was then time to make the journey home with a stop at the Kava bar for a tasting then back to our accommodation.
It was a wonderful day out so if you are in Port Vila on Mondays or Wednesdays I would highly recommend doing this tour.
Thankyou Vanuatu ecotours and all the guides which made the day spectacular.

My Mum and I went on this hike, and she was a bit dubious at the prospect of climbing a mountain having just passed a milestone birthday. Our guides, Moroni, Jeremy and Kinny, were very encouraging though - letting us know that the whole group was in it together and we’d help each other get to the top!

The walk up to the top of the extinct volcano took about 1hr 45min (it’s about 3.5km) with the path alternating between concrete road (good to walk on), dirt road (not so good to walk on) and dirt track (good to walk on if you were careful of some of the steeper slippery bits at the end). It was a bit of a workout for the calves, but the view from the top was well worth it.

The trip down was much more pleasant, and took about an hour including a stop for refreshments (fresh coconut juice, pineapple and local nuts). After leaving Nguna we headed to Pele for lunch, which was a delicious spread of chicken curry, vegetables and rice prepared by Margreth, everyone was hungry after the walk so it was very appreciated.

Before leaving Pele we had plenty of time to go for a snorkel and lie on the beautiful shady beach. It was a great full-day adventure, with very knowledgeable guides (particularly Moroni, who had a wealth of information about the local area but also Vanuatu in general). We have done two tours with Vanuatu Ecotours and I would highly recommend them both. We had great communication from Rob and Elora in the office, and getting picked up/dropped off near our accommodation was very convenient.

That is a great and detailed review, thank you for your time in writing it. Two islands in one day .... and they are such a contrast, volcanic Nguna and then the beautiful white sand and turquoise lagoon of Pele! Glad you enjoyed the tour and congrats to your Mum for reaching the summit!

We thoroughly recommend the Nguna Island full day hike and snorkeling adventure. The guides did an awesome job of leading us and Alan was full of interesting information. The walk up Nguna was sensational and the lunch and snorkeling at the sublime Pele island was a perfect way to finish the day. Everyone is so respectful and friendly. We will be recommending this tour to all our friends! We hope to come back again to try out the other tours with Vanuatu Ecotours!

My family of four (2 adults and 2 teenage kids) did the Nguna/Pele Island day trip in December. We were hosted by 2 outstanding guides - Roy and Whitely. It was an excellent day, made better by the choices we had. We headed to Nguna Island where I hiked to the top, while my partner and kids did the village tour. The hike was a decent level - not too hard, not too easy, but with great views as a reward. The village tour was excellent. The trip to, and lunch on, Pele was really good. The snorkelling was really nice. The cyclones have trashed the coral, but there were lots of colourful and curious fish. And the trip home with our new friends in the bus was really fun, with a pit stop for kava. Highly recommend.

A truly memorable experience starting with the scenic drive and ferry over to Nguna Island. We enjoyed the adventure to the top which was worth the gorgeous 360 degree view. On the descent down we went through the village seeing the happy locals, which was a treat. After the trek, we crossed to Pele Island for a local made delicious lunch followed by snorkelling in crystal clear blue waters. To top this trip, we had the best guides in Francois and Roy. They were enthusiastic, knowledgeable and attentive. We learnt so much from them. Both are an asset to the company. We loved this tour from start to finish. If I could give this trip, guides and company 10 stars I would. It’s such a special way to experience Vanuatu and I highly recommend it if you want a unique adventure. Thank you Vanuatu Ecotours - we had the best time on this trip.

Amazing day out! Comfortable bus transport and boat take you out to the first island for a hike, the hike requires moderate fitness but was really cool walking through the jungle and the 360 degree views at the top were stunning. On the way down you walk past a local village where everyone is friendly. The guides Allan, Francois and George were really down to earth and helped share their culture and answered any questions

Then you go on a boat to Pele island for lunch and snorkelling, the sand is white and water blue, one of the best beaches I’ve been too

Got to be up there with the best tours in Vanuatu

This tour was the highlight of the trip for me. All of the guides were very friendly, the tour was on time and everything was explained clearly. The boat rise across to Nguna was very choppy but also very fun! The hike itself was just breathtaking, not an easy task to get to the top but once you do you are rewarded with the most beautiful 360 degree views. Well worth it. Our guides Kenny and Berry were top blokes, easy to get on with and very knowledgeable about the plants, animals and people on the island. They even broke open some fresh coconuts for us to drink from. After the hike you're treated with a buffet feed, then able to snorkel or relax on the beach before the trip back.
      Highly Recommended!!

Nguna Island, part of the Shefa Province in Vanuatu, offers a tranquil escape with its pristine beaches, vibrant coral reefs, and friendly local communities. Here’s a brief review of what you might experience on a tour:

      1. **Snorkeling and Diving**: The clear waters around Nguna are ideal for snorkeling and diving, featuring colorful coral reefs and diverse marine life. The Moso Marine Protected Area is particularly notable for underwater adventures.

      2. **Hiking and Volcano Tours**: Nguna is home to an extinct volcano, Mt. Marow, offering rewarding hikes with panoramic views. Guided tours provide insights into the island's geological and cultural history.

      3. **Cultural Experiences**: Visitors can engage with local villages to experience traditional Vanuatu culture. Activities might include local handicraft making, traditional dances, and tasting authentic Vanuatu cuisine.

      4. **Eco-Tourism**: Nguna focuses on sustainable tourism. Accommodations often emphasize eco-friendly practices, and tours are designed to have minimal environmental impact.

      5. **Relaxation**: The island’s serene environment is perfect for unwinding. Whether lounging on a secluded beach or enjoying the calm of a bungalow, the island offers a peaceful retreat.

Overall, a tour of Nguna Island provides a blend of adventure, culture, and relaxation in a beautiful, natural setting.
