On this trip to Montserrat Monastery, you’ll enjoy the convenience of included round-trip coach travel from Barcelona, along with the freedom to explore the Benedictine abbey independently. On the 5.5-hour experience you’ll see the basilica—dramatically set into the rocks—Black Madonna, grotto, and audio-visual museum and enjoy panoramic views. Entry to the basilica and audio-visual museum is included.

What to Expect

Join your guide and board an air-conditioned coach in central Barcelona for a drive up the mountain of Montserrat, admiring its saw-toothed peaks. Along the way, hear about Montserrat’s Royal Basilica and Monastery, famous as the home of the Black Madonna (La Moreneta), a revered 12th century statue of the Virgin Mary.

On arrival, savor the panoramas over Barcelona and the countryside, and after an introduction to Montserrat, explore as you want. Admire the basilica inside and out, see and learn about the Black Madonna, and, if time allows, climb to the grotto where it’s believed the statue was found.

Enjoy entry to Montserrat’s audio-visual museum, and choose to sample and purchase the monastery’s homemade liquors at the gift shop. Depending on the date of your visit, you may also hear a recital by Montserrat’s acclaimed Escolania boys’ choir.

Your trip concludes with a coach drop-off back in central Barcelona.

A must do

True, you don't need a tour to do this but you have to go. Really worth it. Just walking around, looking at the scenery and for sure visit the Basilica.

Worth the trip but ditch the travel company.

We took the 1/2 day trip to Monserrat with Julia Travel. The monastery itself was beautiful but the tour was lacking. The office to obtain tickets and catch the bus was HIGHLY disorganized, the tour guide was milquetoast. I felt like the only thing we...More

Hello, the pick up point is at Julia Travel’s office in Balmes street near Plaça Catalunya. You’ll have to check-in there (at the office), then a guide will take the group towards the bus.
