About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- mppppppppp0 contributionsGreat trip and super guide! We have such a great day. Sergio was the best. He was knowledgable, kind, interesting, and funny. Learned so much about Dali and the area. Could not imagine a better trip.Written January 19, 2025
- StellaIsabella0 contributionsGreat dayNu was a great guide, and provided excellent insight into Dali the man and Gala. This is not the Dali you will see in the major galleries of the world (MOMA, etc) but there were some surprises. Maybe not quite enough time for me. Lovely drive, great stop for lunch. Can recommend the Italian restaurant next to the Ramen place (forget name but there are two).Written January 18, 2025
- G801QR_0 contributionsGreat experienceProgram was good even can only visit Dali’s house from outside. Overall time spent was perfect. We got back to Barcelona by 6:30. Our guide is very experienced especially on Dali’s information.Written January 18, 2025
- GeorgeO7090 contributionsExcellent (if long) day of everything DaliOur guide provided an excellent overview on Dali and Gala as we drove to the museum. The museum was very interesting. His artwork is amazing. You definitely need to contemplate it for a while. I especially enjoyed the Mae West room and all the photos of the celebrites he met. Cadaques was a very nice town for lunch. We had a little over an hour so most people did not go to large restaurants because they would need to wait. The Dali house was fascinating - so many stairs leading so many different directions since they were continuously adding on to the house. I also enjoyed all the trinkets and knick-knacks. The view of the ocean from various rooms in the house was spectacular. We had a very nice restroom stop on the route home. We made excellent time getting home since there was no traffic due to the New Year's Eve holiday. Our guide couldn't believe the lack of traffic - very fortunate! All in all, it was an excellent (if long) day with fantastic ocean views. I would definitely recommend this tour.Written January 16, 2025
- jbkelly190 contributionsA truly unique experience!Fantastic tour by our guide, Xavi! He was very knowledgeable and informative, and the highlight was climbing the snow-covered mountains to Andorra. Would absolutely recommend.Written January 16, 2025
- Justin S0 contributionsFun (long) day trip from BarcelonaLots of bus time, but great to visit a small town in Spain (Baga), France (Ax le Thermes) and Andorra in one day. Our guide Sergio was great. The mountains and snow were beautiful. Note that Andorra capital city is much more modern then we expected so that was a bit of a downer, but overall the trip was great. Loved the mountains and old cities/towns along the way!Written January 12, 2025

- DemiGirlFriday0 contributionsGreat day in the winter for a fun tripAlex was a tremendous tour guide. We went during a very busy highway season of Three Kings day, and he was always keeping us on time and mindful so that we wouldn’t get stuck in traffic - but also a master at not making anyone feel rushed! We had plenty of time in all three places. Andorra is a beautiful country and it is worth the trip (especially with a tour since it isn’t easy to get to via rail or plane). Leaving early in the AM is great because you have the city of Baga to yourself quietly to explore and grab breakfast. The bathroom stops were well timed and we were back in Barcelona at 7pm! Alex also gave us a great food recommendation of La Foga - after your tour. It didn’t disappoint! Walking distance from drop off. Bottom line - eat all the food, buy the cheese and wine, and ask for Alex!Written January 5, 2025

- lisarimi0 contributionsPablo the tour guide was just lovely 👍The tour to Andorra was a mixed experience, but Pablo, our tour guide, made it truly unforgettable! While the drive itself was very long, and Andorra didn’t offer much beyond shopping, Pablo’s energy and enthusiasm kept the entire group engaged and entertained throughout the journey. The stops at the medieval towns in Spain and France were absolutely delightful. Pablo brought these historic locations to life by sharing fascinating stories and history while keeping us engaged with interactive questions. He made sure everyone felt involved and connected, adding a personal touch to the tour. The drive to Andorra, though lengthy, was incredibly scenic, with breathtaking views along the way. Our driver was excellent—safe, cautious, and ensured we reached each destination comfortably and without any stress. Pablo’s efforts went above and beyond. He not only kept us entertained throughout the long drive but also took group photos and created a stunning collage that beautifully detailed our entire journey. It was such a thoughtful gesture and a wonderful keepsake from the trip. Even if the long drive isn’t for you, the experience with Pablo—and his artistic collage—makes it completely worthwhile!Written December 30, 2024

The best thing about this tour company are their guides- our guide Rod was incredibly patient, friendly, helpful and informative. Did the Girona Costa Brava tour which is a great way to see a different part of this country. Tour met at 8:30 and return time was 7 pm, so a long day. The first part was about 1 hr 45 min to Pals, one hour stop in a gorgeous medieval town, then stop at a seaside town, 2 hours for lunch and a little walk, then Girona for 30 min walking tour and free time about 2 hours. So definitely a full itinerary but well organized in every way. We learned a lot and wouldn't have been able to see all this on our own.
One comment about the small group aspect- we rode in a minivan at full capacity for 9 people, so this was pretty cozy seating. If you had a family I would recommend pricing out a private tour which would be ideal. And there are people who bring very young children on these tours, so that would also be something to consider discussing with office, or bringing headphones for the drive, if you are put off by possibility of traveling with a toddler for 10 hours.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Girona and Costa Brava small group tour with Nicholas as our guide. Nicholas did an excellent job of providing key highlights and history of each location making the trip that much more interesting. I enjoyed the two small towns better than the Costa Brava sea town. It may be that is was late January and the off season but I would have preferred more time in Girona rather than the full 2+ hours spent on the coast with most of the establishments closed.

I can’t be more grateful for signing up for this group tour, accompanied by Explore Cataluna’s guide, Gloria, and the bus driver, Marcelo. Let me begin my review by mentioning that Gloria was an absolutely wonderful guide with immense knowledge about the sites we visited on that day as well as an amazing person there to help us with anything we required as tourists.
We left Barcelona at 8:30 am on a beautiful, sunny morning and headed to the village of Pals while driving through amazingly picturesque suburbs. Pals is a small medieval village, located on top of a hill, that grew out of what was once a fortress. It is a breathtakingly beautiful and idyllic village and we spent about an hour walking through the village. Gazing at the nooks and candies of the fortress nothing less than reminded me of all those fairy tales I was read to by my father when I was a little gal.
From Pals, we headed to the fishing village of Catella de Palafrugell and reached this coastal village by lunch time. After a nice, long walk along the coastline and the surrounding cliff, we had a nice lunch by the beach. An absolutely charming, picturesque and like a fresh breath of air, the village almost enticed me into a sweet siesta by the coast.
From Catella de Palafrugell, we headed towards our last destination for the day - the city of Girona, a city founded about 2,000 years ago. An enchanting and inviting site, I instantly fell in love with Girona! Each on our own, we had about two hours to explore the city of Girona. I spent the time in the Old Town Girona walking across the magical streets while stopping by Catederal de Girona, Esglesia de Sant Feliu, Sant Pere de Galligants, Cul de la Lleona, The Walls and more. Alluring me more and more into the details, the Old Town was nothing less than a magician. Before I could get more and more absorbed into the spirit of the town, it was time to check into reality and to head back to Barcelona.
I would like to conclude by saying that it was an absolutely mesmerizing trip and the only negative being I wish I had more time to spend at every single location. Once again, I would like to thank Gloria and Marcelo for making this trip absolutely wonderful...a trip that will live in my memories forever!

Hi,
Thank you for such a wonderful review :)
Pals is such an unexpected surprise. It is definitely like travelling on time! And Calella de Palafrugell is the perfect example for traditional Mediterranean fishing village, where to enjoy good food, enjoy stunning views and relax by the beach.
We will make sure to let Gloria and Marcelo now about your feedback. They will be delighted!
Kind regards,
Christel

The locations in Catalonia will truly beautiful and a good selection to visit during our trip to Barcelona. However, the real magic we experienced was due entirely to our exceptional guide, Rod. He leant color and context to everything we saw with his stories and historical perspective. He is a magnificent resource for the history and culture of the Catalonian geography and people. His enthusiasm imbued us with excitement and wonder as we anticipated the next experience along the way. He meticulously prepared for the trip and freely shared both his personal experience and knowledge about the towns, the people and their history. He is absolutely the best guide we have had over 20 years and more than forty countries we have visited. He made us want to extend our visit and return to another tour with him. We will return specifically to share his knowledge and enthusiasm on another tour.

We had an amazing time during this tour. The AC bus was super comfortable, our guide Ludovika was knowledgeable and spoke English very well. Our tour started right on time due to which we could reach and explore Girona almost exclusively before other tourists arrived. We especially enjoyed taking pictures at the spots where Game of Thrones was shot. Pals village looked like it was straight out of a painting. Beautiful and picturesque. The last stop was Costa Brava, where we took a dip in the sea and had the most delicious Paella at one of the many restaurants along the coast. We had ample time (2 hours at Girona, 1.5 hour at Pals and 3 hours at Costa Brava) to explore each location. Ludovika would guide us where needed and then let us explore on our own. She also made sure to give restaurant recommendations to everyone based on where each was staying at Barcelona. We took her advice and later went to La Pepita - a Tapas Bar located at a 5 minute walking distance from where we were staying - and it was one of the best culinary experiences that we had in Spain. Our driver Rafa drove us around safely and also gave insights on many historical sites that we passed along the way.

My husband and I ventured on this tour really knowing pretty little about the area. We were pleasantly surprised with the entire day. From Girona to our second location which was a wall enclosed medieval village, very beautiful and interesting. The final stop was to a coastal town where we could go to the beach and then we had a lovely lunch at Tony’s restaurant which was very delicious. The service was great. Overall we really love this trip I do think the tour guide could’ve been more informative and there was a lot of time on our own a little bit too much in my opinion but again overall very good

Pretty bad experience overall. I should have skipped it and won't book the company again - don't get the good reviews.
Tour Experience:
It was a bus ride to 3 villages. Didn't learn much and consistently two people (driver and supposedly guide) at time you will.be travelling for 2 hours straight. We had to reach at departure point at 8:30 and were not told to pack breakfast and off we went on 2 hours with no engagement or any form of light entertainment like car-music or fun facts.
Guide:
The guide Sergio didn't know much and was winging it e.g. he was explaining the purpose of a well in ancient times by explaining that it was a water reservoir important at the time of invasions! Talked about Barcelona most of the times instead of the tour of villages. He would go away after spending 5mins and didn't assist with basic things like finding coffee cafe etc. His knowledge of the surroundings was quite terrible.

Hello,
I am absolutely speechless after reading this review. Sergio is, without doubt, one of our very best guides, and has never had such a bad review in all the years he has worked with us.
In fact, he gets more five star reviews than anyone!
He has a wealth of knowledge about the area, and I do not believe that he gave no information!
I don't know why you have given such an awful review, but it is so far removed from the reviews that Sergio consistently gets that I wonder what the real reason is you did not enjoy the tour.
Regarding breakfast, we don't think it is our place to tell people when to eat in the morning. If you are going to start a tour at 8.30am, then I assume you will have breakfast before.
Regards,
Robert

The three places are wonderful and a must see when in Barcelona. The tour itself was not very organized and could improve. The order of the cities were not as described. We went to Girona first and it was very good and with enough time to explore. Then we went to Palafrugells, although the description when we bought it said Palls after Girona, where we had lunch and beach time, but we didn’t spent 3 hours there as described, it was around 2 1/2 and it was a little rushed to really enjoy lunch in very nice local restaurants and enjoy the beach. Then we headed to Palls, a very unique village but it was very rushed, unfortunately, because there was so much to see and take in despite being tired after beach and lunch. Also there was zero free time in Palls, which we missed because it would have been nice to have time to walk on our own a bit and also explore some interesting local shops, or at least grab a coffee and water. It would probably have been better to do Palls before Palafrugells to finish at the beach as originally described. I would recommend exploring these places on your own with plenty of time because they are worth it.
We did do another tour to Costa Brava with this company earlier in the week that was much better organized. Maybe it wasn’t a good day as Saturday in the summer everything is so crowded.

Hello,
Thank you for the review. I am sorry that we changed the order around on this day. It was done to try and avoid the heavy traffic leaving the beach that day, and avoid a long journey back to Barcelona.
We keep a close look at the traffic throughout the day and if we foresee a problem we always try and avoid it. However, the guide should have told you what was happening.
I am sorry for that.
Best regards,
Robert

The Girona & Costa Brava small group tour was a highlight of our week long stay in Barcelona.
Our tour guide Jordi was a delight and we had a lovely day. First stop the ancient village of Pal for an early peaceful tour, then the scenic Costa Brava fishing village, Calella de Palafrugell, where we enjoyed a leisurely lunch after taking in the views and walking all around the beaches as we wished. Our last stop was Girona where we had a group walk and then were able to spend the afternoon focusing on areas that we most interested in. Some of us accompanied Jordi to the top of the old city walls fir an amazing outlook. Great bus & driver as well as very nice group of guests. Highly recommended.

This is a MUST DO if you are looking to explore the rich history and beauty of Catalonia outside of Barcelona. We had the best time and ended up with tons of knowledge, memories and insanely gorgeous pictures to remember 3 distinct parts of Spain. Our boys who are 17 and 18 and my hubby quoted this as one of the best days of our European vacation. Our tour guide was amazingly knowledgeable and very personable. He even took us to a bonus sight “El Celler De Can Roca”, a 3 star Michelin Star restaurant in Girona. Being a foodie, it was a big bonus for me personally. As both my hubby and I are huge Game of Thrones fans, being at a site in Girona where season 6 was filmed was a memorable experience as well. Pals was gorgeous. My husband and son had a fabulous time swimming in Costa Brava while my my older son and I explored the many shops in the beautiful beach town. And Girona, with so much Roman history, was a sight to behold. The post card view of colorful Girona buildings next to the river, the Jewish Quarter, the Eiffel Bridge and the walking the old walls of Girona are just some of the highlights from Girona. Lastly, I have to give a huge shoutout to the Tour Operator company itself. We had a bit of a panic of not being able to find the COVID test site as we were returning to US the next day and thought we may have to cancel the tour. They calmly worked with us, went above and beyond and found a place where we could go for testing. That lifted a huge burden off of us. The tour operators were excellent in keeping us communicated through email, text, phone calls. I can’t say enough about how thankful we are for their support and that we didn’t miss this tour. As it would have been a big bummer.

Hi
We are 2 people ( seniors) who want to take this tour on October 25 but we want to remain in Girona at the end of the tour
I read that you are stopping in Girona only at the end.
Also would it be possible to pick us up from our hotel which is in the center ?
Thank you!

This tour does not offer hotel pickup, even if your hotel is in the central city. Taxi drivers are familiar with the meeting point. Am unable to recommend alternative transportation choices returning to Barcelona if you decide to stay longer in Girona.

Is it necessary to form your own small group, or is it possible for the 2 of us to join others on a day of our choice (we’re in Barcelona just 3 days in May 2020). TYIA!

No problem joining up to form a bigger group. Most people on our tour were couples or small groups.
