Montserrat Monastery & Hiking Tour with Cable Car Included from Barcelona

Select Date and Travellers
2 travellers
The experience starts in the upper part of Passeig de Gràcia, before journeying to experience the natural splendor of Montserrat, Catalonia’s most emblematic mountain. Topped by a Benedictine Monastery, Montserrat is an ideal half-day trip to spend a fun day in nature, just a few kilometers away from Barcelona.

Upon arrival, visit the Monastery, which was founded in the 10th century and still functions to this day, with over 150 monks. Your guide will bring history alive by explaining the history and ventures of this Monastery dating nearly a thousand years.

Board the Aeri Cable Car and Sant Joan's Railway to observe the area’s fascinating flora and fauna following a trail (soft trekking) with the best specialized guide in Montserrat Natural Park.
  • See Montserrat's highlights on a day trip from Barcelona
  • Explore with a guide to learn about the abbey's history
  • Views of Catalonia from the Sant Joan funicular railway
  • Navigate Montserrat National Park easily on a guided walk
  • Group numbers limited to 15 for a calmer, more personalized experience
What to Expect
Meet in central Barcelona and travel by deluxe Mercedes minivan to Montserrat, admiring the rugged scenery on route. As you travel, hear about the mountainside Benectine abbey and its 12th-century wooden "La Moreneta" carving of the Virgin Mary, the "Black Madonna," that makes it one of Spain’s most important pilgrimage sites. Tour the abbey, enjoy a performance of the boys’ choir, and see the revered statue as your guide sheds light on the monastery’s history. Next, ascend the mountainside on the glass-roofed Sant Joan funicular train and admire the bird’s-eye views from the slopes over Catalonia below. Then, drive on to Montserrat Natural Park, one of Catalonia’s most scenic natural reserves. Here, set off on a gentle guided nature walk to take in the stunning scenery and flora and fauna. After appreciating the unspoilt landscapes and peace here, your tour finishes with a drop-off in central Barcelona.

The trip was not cheap but totally worth it. A positive remark about the organization: as it rained in the morning, the guide informed us before we left that the hiking trail could potentially be closed and that we would visit the museum in case...More

We very much enjoyed the trip to Montserrat and the surrounding national park with our guide Adrian. Would definitely return now that we know there is an option to overnight at the monastery.

We did not see the boy’s choir. We saw the Black Virgin Statue from a distance. There was such a long line to get a close up view in August. The cog railway and cable car might be fun for the kids. We took the option to walk... More
