Overview

The Vatican Museum, home to Raphael’s Rooms and the world-famous Sistine Chapel, is one of Italy’s most popular attractions. Discover new sides to the spectacular papal galleries during this private skip-the-line tour of the museum’s hidden gems, including under-the-radar collections like the Room of the Animals and Cabinet of the Masks. Convenient hotel pickup makes for a hassle free start to your tour.

What to Expect

After pickup at your hotel, travel with your guide to the Vatican Museum, where you’ll breeze past the crowds with skip-the-line admission. You’ll have time to explore well-known treasures like the Raphael Rooms—a set of lavish papal apartments—and Michelangelo’s blockbuster frescos on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

You’ll also encounter off-the-beaten-track marvels like the statue collection in the Room of the Animals and the Carriage Pavilion, where you’ll see antique horse-drawn papal carriages and the Vatican’s first steam engine. Get an exclusive peek at the extraordinary wall-to-ceiling mosaics in the Cabinet of the Masks, which are normally closed to the public.

Enjoy commentary from your guide on Vatican rituals, including the origin of the papal cavalcade. Conclude with one last stop at St. Peter’s Basilica, known as Italy’s largest and most spectacular church, where you’ll get a chance to admire the bronze baroque altar by the sculptor Bernini.

Private Vatican Tour

Our Vatican tour was awesome! Definitely ask for Fabiana if she’s available! She knows her art history and made the tour much more informative than it would have been otherwise! The special treat was special passes to an exhibit not accessible to the general public!...More

Ciao! Glad you liked the 'awesome' tour :-D I agree that it's really neat when the Vatican guard opens up part of the museums just for you while other visitors look at us like, 'Who are they!?!' Lots of fun, do come again! -Fabiana

We spent 3 hours, maybe a little more with Linda. Is it sufficient? Hard to answer that part of your question...a lot to take in at the Vatican. Perfect for a first visit and it may be sufficient for most people.

I accompanied my 89 year father in-law. The beauty of working with a private guide is that he/she can schedule impromptu rest breaks and can lead you to all the "secret" elevators to avoid the stairs!
