About
The Vatican Museums are among the most crowded in the world, sometimes having as many 20,000 visitors in a day. On this tour, see the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica (note: the Basilica is closed to the public on Wednesdays) in the relative peace of early morning, entering the museums well before they are open to the public—when you enter the Sistine Chapel, it is mostly empty. A small-group size means plenty of personal attention.

What to expect
Your early morning tour begins at the main entrance to the Vatican Museums. Meet your guide and small group and enter the museums. Walk through the main galleries, including the Room of the Candelabra, Hall of Tapestries, and Gallery of the Maps. Before reaching the Sistine Chapel, receive a reference map you can use once inside, a useful resource since visitors to the chapel are expected to be silent as they observe Michelangelo’s masterpieces. After exiting the chapel from a side door head straight to St. Peter’s Basilica, skipping the lines. Your guide takes you to see the baroque Baldacchino, La Pieta, and other masterworks. The last stop is underneath the main floor of the basilica, where hundreds of Popes are buried. Finish the tour in front of the Basilica.

Marvelous experience with Raff
Feb. 2020
We toured the breathtaking Vatican City. With Tour Guy, we were able to enter the City an hour earlier than general admission. Our guide, Raff, wasted no time as she gave us a crash course in Vatican history while we waited to be let inside. Throughout the two-hour tour, Raff provided engaging and in-depth exposition and answers to the endless questions about the city. The tour was well-paced, with invitations to stay longer in places like the Sistine Chapel and Saint Peter’s Basilica. An unforgettable experience, brought to life thanks to Raff and Roman Tour Guy.

Super tour with Raf
Mar. 2020
There is so much to see in the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St Peter's, it makes sense to have a tour guide take you around so that you can make sense of what you at looking at. Raf our guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She was happy to answer our questions and took us around at a good pace. It's worth getting the early tour as it's not as crowded and you have the rest of the day to eat drink and be merry.

Not too busy in Februrary
Feb. 2020
Faby, our guide, was excellent. The tour did not originally include the Rafael apartments in the Vatican, but she made time to show us them. (They are unmissable and you should make sure that your tour includes them if you are interested in Rafael) it was easy to hear her at all times with the ear bud provided and she was very knowledgeable, telling us the personal stories of the artists and their rivalries, as well as the significance of their art.

Absolutely amazing tour of a beautiful place. Our guide was very informative and friendly which made the experience much greater. Very much worth the early morning to have a far less crowded view of the Sistine Chapel. You also have the option to stick around and explore more if you would like which is good

Great experience with a great local tour guide
We toured with Raffa (I really hope I spelled her name right and apologies if I didn’t) and she was great. She’s a local and had a wealth of knowledge and insights that made the tour really fun. We had two little ones with us. She was friendly with the kids and made them feel inclusive. The tour is long, we clocked in over 10k steps. Overall the experience was great and we are doing another tour with the Roman Guy.

Once in a lifetime experience...

Super organized and engaging tour! Waking up early morning hours to catch this skip the line tour at 7:30am was totally worth it (and I’m not a morning person 😬).

Donatta was my tour guide, and she was passionate and knowledgeable throughout. She was clear, communicative and checked up on how folks were feeling, catered the tour to the group’s questions and preferences. I was greatly by impressed how she multitasked providing her subject expertise and time management skills in such a large space! I would’ve missed out on so much information and context of the art, artists and key Religious iconography without her guidance.

I Can’t recommend this tour enough. Experiencing the art and architecture of the Vatican - Sistene Chapel and San Pietro in particular was a major reason for my visit to Italy. So glad I finally made it and got such a positive experience from this tour. Thanks, Donatta!
