About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- pkabatek0 contributionsA little disappointedDespite a different description, the Venice Walking Tour was nearly identical to the Unusual Venice Walking Tour that we'd just completed. Not only that, but the guide's accent and stachatic speaking style meant that I was not able to understand anything she said over the microphone. The only time I was able understand her is when I took off my ear buds and she was speaking directly to me. Also standing in several of one spots for what seemed like a long time, listening to narratives I couldn't understand, was quite tiring. The gondola ride was nice & scenic, but it was too short; we wished it was longer, like 1 hr. We would have gladly traded 30 minutes of the tour for 30 extra minutes of the gondola ride.Written March 18, 2024
- nirgovnafets0 contributionsTour great! Gondola... Ok5 stars for the tour. The guide was amazing, providing plenty of local and very interesting information. You can tell she was enthusiastic about what she was doing. The gondola ride was... Ok. It felt rushed. They crammed as many on the ride as they could and out you go. Two of the seats in the boat are good and look comfortable but the rest are just small stools that slide around (3 stools). The driver spent the whole time just chatting with the driver of the boat behind usWritten February 28, 2024

- troyw5900 contributionsWalking tour was slow and somewhat boring but gondola ride was awfulThe guide was a teacher and very knowledgeable but maybe to much information on some of the political points about various things along the tour. Overall she was still very ingaging. Now the bad part is when we were left for the gondola ride the lady showed up 30 minutes late and as a result we had a very disappointing ride in the dark. The Grand Canal may have lights but the 20 minutes not on it were in almost total darkness. It simply ruined my Wife's most desired tour. The lady should be professional and show up on time , 12 people standing in the cold waiting for her to finally appear.Written December 11, 2023

- Eliza K0 contributionsDon’t even botherThis was the worst tour I have ever done. The tour guide was rude to a number of people, would not repeat when people asked because they couldn’t hear, wouldn’t speak up when asked and didn’t wait for the whole group to be at the location before starting. The content was good; however, the delivery was terrible and without any enthusiasm. Tour guides need to be able to make the content come alive. The speed with which we she walked meant at times the group were almost running to keep up with her - luckily there was nobody in the tour that had mobility issues. Also the tour was advertised to be 90 minutes; however was rushed through in 70. I am not sure of the tour guides as she didn’t even bother to introduce herself. The communication sent to the tour operator for directions resulted in a rude response and the lady that issued the tickets at the meeting pint didn’t even speak to us. Very disappointing and I would suggest in what is a service industry that you improve your interactions with customersWritten December 1, 2023

- Joerosemacgiddz0 contributionsWorth the Experience but Be CarefulA wonderful experience but be prepared to be bold with your driver. It's a must do but they will bully you into a 17 minute ride for 100 Euros (after 7pm) although their sign states its 30 minutes. This was the first time we have been in Venice and this trip was a great way to see the surrounding islands and it's different cultures.
The guide (Francesca B. - ask for her) knew a lot of the history about the many different islands and Venice in general.
The glass factory on Murano was amazing and seeing the sculptures at work was a great experience.
Though it was clearly Burano wich was the main attraction with it's many beautiful colored houses and scenery
Can only recommend!

This tour starts off by taking you via the water taxi system to Murano to see a quick glass making demonstration and on to the gift shop. Afterwards you will have about 15 minutes to walk around the island before the water taxi departs for Torcello. Torcello has approx. 7 residents and most of the places were closed when we arrived. You are given 30 minutes to walk the island before the boat departs for Burano. In my opinion, Torcello should be removed from this tour as it’s not worth your time. Lastly you arrive at Burano which is a lovely town with many shops. This stop needs more time than the tour allows. I recommend buying a ticket to visit the islands of Murano and Burano and skipping the trip advisor tour. Lastly, during the boat ride you will have a guide who speaks about the islands in three different languages. It’s difficult to hear what the guide says and it’s too much information at once. People stop listening and start talking because they can’t hear and process the information that is being provided by the guide.

I was very concerned about being late for the excursion based on the reviews. When we arrived at the pier the queue was incredibly long. About 15 minutes after the start time, a small boat arrived. They were unable to load all the passengers. We were informed the large boat was out of commission and were working with a smaller boat. We were informed another boat would be coming for the remaining passengers.
An hour after the original departure time, 2 water taxis came to take us to Murano. We were greeted on the pier by a gentleman who ushered us into a glass blowing factory where we were given a demonstration and then shown the store. We were told we would have an additional 1.5 hours to explore the island since we would be joining the next group!
We explored some of the shops and enjoyed our time, returning to the pier at the appointed time only to be informed there would be an additional delay of 45 minutes. Once more after those 45 minutes had passed and still no boat, we were told the boat had broken down and they were trying to get the issue resolved but didn’t have a time estimate.
We opted to take public transportation back to Venice since we had already spent the entire duration of the planned excursion waiting on boats that did not appear to be reliable.

Upon booking Venice, we realised how many islands actually surrounded Venice and we knew that if it was possible, we had to check them out. So, we did some research and found that there were tours of each island happening from the docks not far from our hotel. However, as we had left it quite late, most of the tours had sold out before we had an opportunity to book them.
Then we found this tour.
Not only was it affordable, it made good for time, only taking up about four hours of the day so that we could still explore and make the most of our short trip to Venice. Originally, it seemed like we wouldn't have enough time to look around, and while more time would have been nice, fifty minutes was a plentiful amount to search each island and explore.
The boat ride to each island was provided with a tour, with both English and Italian translations, in which we were taught about the islands we were passing and their history. Although it was a bit hard to hear over the chatter, it was still interesting to learn about.
On the first island, we were immediately taken to watch the art of glass making, an impressive, yet hot technique of making glass. It was interesting to watch how it was done and we were then shown a room full of glass art that was available for sale. While it was out of my price range, I could appreciate the beauty and talent of each piece. Due to the demonstration, we were given less time to explore, but plenty of time to take a look around and buy a snack if need be.
Our second island was a lot quieter and it felt as if less people lived there, but it was still a breathtaking sight. We walked along the water, passing restaurants and vendors, until we found some kind of historical building. Due to our time frame, we were unable to explore much, but we managed to take in the sights and even watched an accordion player.
Burano was one of my favourite places visited on the trip. A beautiful and colourful island indeed. We were dropped off and left to explore the rainbow and it was absolutely gorgeous, full of vibrant colours. Each building seemed to be some kind of shop, mostly selling jewellery or artwork, each beautiful to look at - we were even able to spot a cat. Before leaving the island, we managed to find a bit of shade under a tree to relax and keep out of the sun before moving on.
By the time we arrived back to Venice, we had definitely felt we had seen and learnt a lot about the islands off of Venice. For the price of the tour, I highly recommend it, as you get to not only visit each island, but you learn about them at the same time.

It's just a waste of time. To begin with, the tour is conducted in 4 languages at once !!! First, a couple of phrases are spoken in Italian, then in German, Spanish, and finally English. Sometimes, when the turn came to English, we already swam the object of the conversation.
The first stop is Murano. 15 minutes of a truly spectacular glass making show. That was the only good thing about the tour. Then you are given 20 minutes from above to walk, but you do not have time to see anything, but Murano is a beautiful island and I would like to spend more time there. Then you are taken to the island of Torcello. An empty and uninteresting island. You are dropped off and sent alone to the church for the entrance to which you have to pay 5 euros, which no one informed about before the start of the tour. 40 minutes on an empty island. Bravo! Then you are taken to the Burano island where you are also left alone for 40 minutes. Pretty cute little island with colorful buildings. However, by that time you no longer have the mood and desire to look at houses. At the end you will finally be brought back.
This is the worst and most useless waste of time in Venice. Please do not make my mistake and it is better to take a separate ticket for Murano and Burano. You will get much more pleasure. Find information from the tour (of which there was very little) in Wikipedia. There is much more of it!

Dear pavlov32,
we are sorry to read you were not completely satisfied with our tour.
Murano, Burano and Torcello are among the most beautiful islands of the Venetian Lagoon and we understand the desire to spend more time on each island.
Nevertheless, our half-day boat tour aims to give only a panoramic view of the life, culture and traditions of 3 islands for a very competitive price (20 Euro!). We think it's a great price for what we offer: private transportation from Venice center, hostess that provides multilingual explanations on board (which for us is an added value), free glassblowing demonstration in an ancient furnace and so on.
We also understand that Burano can be the most charming island among the 3, but the other 2 aren't less worthy: Torcello is the first island that was inhabited even before Venice, and Murano has a long tradition in the art of glass making that has made this island famous all over the world starting from the 14th century.
You can easily find all this information on our website or by asking to one of our ticket office: the tour is exactly how it is described.
Thank you for choosing Bucintoro Viaggi,
Best regards,

Tour: guide was giving us some information for each island but we couldn't hear half of it because of the other people talking, and the other half because the boat is too loud / speakers aren't loud enough, we could only hear a couple of words here and there.
Murano: fun experience seeing how glass is blown, prices in the factory are through the roof, there are stores on the island with much lower prices.
Torcello: relaxing and peacefull but nothing to see in the given time as the museum / tower is at the far end of the island and touring it would stress me to make it back to the boat, and it is not included in the visit so it's an additional cost.
Burano: nice and cozy town, good for taking photos

Civitalis advertise as a boat trip to Murano, Burano and Torcello from and to Venice taking 6 hours. What you get: trip to Murano where you get shown 10 mins of glass blowing and then you are left for 3 hours. While pretty all Murano has to offer are endless shops selling glass which no way merit 3 hours. Then to Torcello where you get 36 minutes, just time to walk to the cathedral - the only significant feature of the island - absolutely no time to go in it. Then to Burano, a gem, very pretty and deserves much more time but you get just 50 minutes. On the first boat you could not hear the tour guide. On the return the volume was deafening and the guide giggling merrily. The so say six hour trip is nearer 7.5 hours. Completely avoid this trip and the tour company Consorzio Vidali Group which operates the boats. And I have not even gone into detail on the seats that are not fixed down in the boat and are dangerous.
Civitalis should not be selling this trip without major changes including a new tour provider and competent staff.

Francesca B. Was our tour guide for this Murano and Burano to her today. She is an excellent guide. We had our own private boat for our group. We had a glassblowing demonstration in Murano and a lacemaking demonstration in Burano and some free time. Very relaxed and we learned a lot.

picking up the tickets were pretty easy; saw that you can book this trip on the spot if you wished; however the dude that came to bring us to the boat loading dock didn't really make an effort to stand out. we were very attentive and was able to find him but honestly, if i didn't know better, i would have missed him and he wouldn't have cared and walked away. he didn't have a list or anything, so i'm sure he didn't know how many people he needed to wait for so once he got 1-2 people, he just told us to follow him and walked away. besides this, the "tour" was definitely worth the money, we got to visit all three cities and had about an hour in each city to walk around & take pictures. the guide gives short brief informations about each city which was nice. it would have been nicer to have a bit more time in each city but nevertheless, the price reflects the trip. wished they had a lace making show like they had the glass making show but no worries
