What to expect
After meeting your guide in the center of Taormina, head off to Agrigento, located on Sicily's sunny south coast. Pull right up to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Valley of the Temples, an incredible archeological spot on a hill that dates back to 430 BC. Pay the admission fees and then begin strolling around with your guide, navigating the labyrinth of relics and ruins. Drink in the numerous sites, including the temple of Castor and Pollux and the Temple of Concord, an exemplary Classical monument. Then stop and marvel at the Temple of June, Temple of Jove, and the most ancient ruin on the site, the Temple of Hercules. Take a break for lunch inside the Valley of the Temples (at own expense) and then hop back on the coach for the drive to Piazza Amerina to see the incredible Villa Romana del Casale, an old hunting lodge that is home to the planet's biggest collection of Roman mosaics. Take some time to study the mosaics, some of which depict every day scenes from centuries past. Go inside the hunting lodge (at own expense) and wander around the rooms. Linger in the thermal baths for a while trying to imagine what daily life was like here over 2,000 years ago. Walk through the dining hall and courtyard. Gawk at the awesome mosaics, especially the 'bikini girls,' which your guide will offer an intriguing explanation about. Learn about the history of the lodge and how it was hidden thanks to a 12th-century landslide that buried it. Stroll around the lodge, taking in the preserved art and architecture and then hop back on the coach for the journey back to Taormina.

Amazing temples
Dec. 2019
If you're not ruined-out after Pompeii, the Valley of the Temples is worth a visit. Be prepared for a lot of walking so weather is something to be considered. Summer days are very hot and it's not great if it's raining. There are a couple of cafes and toilets along the way but take water and travel light.

Poorly executed tour
Sep. 2019
We attended this tour in late September, and found it very poorly run. The tour bus had 71 people on it, which was far too much for a pleasant experience. It is a long day of seeing attractions for sure, but it was made much worse by how poorly run and executed this tour was. First, with all 71 on board, we made our way to Agrigento. The tour guide announces we will make a 'stop' for coffee at a roadside place about 1 hour in. The stench of a 'kick-back' is heavy on this one. There was no reason to stop, and the place was packed with other buses. It was unpleasant, and unnecessary. We were then told, that in order to get back on the bus, we would need to pay, in cash, the entry fees to the sites. Now, they were very clear that the entry fees weren't included in the price, I'm fine with that. But then why collect in cash mid-way through? It could have been included in the overall fee if they were going to collect it. If we are paying this separately, there is no reason for us to pay them. Again, the smell of unsavory behavior is in the air.

The tour guides themselves I can hardly review, since there were 71 of us, it was near impossible to really get any information from them. We split into 2 groups at Agrigento, but even then 35 people trying to experience these amazing sites, getting pictures, exploring your curiosities and trying to hear the guide was near impossible. I should also note that there was no guided tour of the Villa, just the temples in Agrigento. Many if not most of us left the guide at Agrigento, and were told to meet at the end point at 1:15, and that the bus would not wait. So, we managed our time and met at 1:15, along with many others, only to find the guide was not completed with his tour until after that point, and then we heard that he decided a 'new' time to depart was an hour later. Now, this is a LONG day. Being made longer by the poor time management of the guide.

As mentioned, there was not guide of the Villa, but once again, far too much time was provided this group. The guide kept mentioning how LONG the day was, but wasn't really managing it and mostly made it worse.

Once back in Taormina, we made what felt like a dozen stops until you get to the ACTUAL stop of the tour, again because there were 71 of us, extending the tour. I just cannot recommend this tour to anyone. There are options to do smaller, personal guides, which I regret not going with. The temples are worth the trip, the Villa was fine, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Dear Customer, it is true, we might have a large group during our tours since we offer standard tours with very convenient prices based on the quantities. You can also have a tailor made tour but, of course prices will be much higher. All tours are organized following a precise schedule and it is quite normal to divide a large group into two of 35 people each. That is the peak season in Sicily! Regarding your insinuations we wish to explain that the stop at the gas station is a "must" since many customers ask for toilet and cafeteria and we are obliged to stop. No interest is involved in that. Secondly, the entry fees cannot be included in the price since citizens under the age of 18 do not pay. The tour guide made a favour to you by getting the cash and let you avoid the queue at the ticket counter. We hope we have given a clear explanation. Sicily is very wide and distances are long, you have to be aware before starting the tour that it will be a long day. With this tour you have the chance to visit two different cities of art. That is a very good chance. Warm regards. Guest Relations Manager SAT Group

The amazing builds of the Ancient World
Feb. 2019
Visiting in Febuary was good it was warm but not hot, even then a hat was required. The whole area was stunning. My husband and I were gobsmacked by the views, the architecture, and the technical skills to build such huge monuments. It was certainly worthwhile visiting.

The Roman Villa was also amazing, it covered a large area and had the most wonderful mosiac floors. Take your time to study the detail and wonder what life might have been like in Roman times.

Memorable historic places well worth the long trip

We had a long bus trip from and then back to Taormina , bus was comfortable, tour guide on bus efficient, friendly and informative. The valley of the temples and the view from there was breath takingly beautiful. Only down side was that the local lady tour guide (Enza?) that showed us around the temples, although polite and appeared knowledgeable, was extremely soft spoken and often impossible to hear, and did not seem to be well experienced in how best to handle a multi lingual crowd. When requested to speak up she suggested we huddle together more, not doable since it was raining and umbrellas were in the way and there were many of us . She just would not speak louder and had no microphone. Even when it stopped raining many of us could not hear her. I sometimes fought for a place right in front of her in order to heat her, but my husband and several other tourists were not comfortable with fighting for front row and rubbing shoulders with strangers. She would readily answer individual questions, but then engage in quiet private conversation instead of opening it up to the crowd. She would also rotate the order of languages without letting us know beforehand about the change of order, so that the whole group would have to wait together and listen through one or two speaches in other languages , not knowing when she would start the explanations in their own language. The previous day we had a local tour guide in Syracuse who made much better use of our time. She would tell us before every speach which language she would start with , and that the rest of the group could in the meantime look at the site and take pictures, and at what time they should join her again for their particular language.

Hello Doris W, we have taken note of your difficulties in hearing our local guide. The rain made ieverything difficukt because normally we do not have these kind of problems. In any case we would have appreciated that you have called us or come to our agency to discuss about it. We send you our warmest regards. Guest Relation Manager SAT Group

Absolutely worth the drive, one of the most amazing places to see in all of Sicily.
Rent a car and take the two hour drive from Palmero, you won't regret it.
Some of the most amazing ruins can been seen here from early greek settlers. The condition of these old world marvels is astonishing.

A glimpse into ancient times
This place has so much history that you have to make the trip to go there every time you visit Sicilia.

Take your time to walk around and imagine how it would have been to live be here when this was at it’s glory. This place just fills you with joy and peace.

Extremely rude tour guide
Fabulous UNESCO site and not to be missed
However , the main downside of the day was a long dark haired tour guide who at the admission insisted as we walked to the queue on telling us we needed to go behind his party , which we did to be polite . He then stopped the queue to dramatically instruct his group while the queue reduced in front of him . Our family and some other guests noticed the quest moving and walked around to joins the now increasing gap in the visitors
At which point he very aggressively and rudely instructed us to go back
A few words were exchanged !!
This was then increased further by an extreme rude member of the party who followed his lead and told us to go to the back of the queue for which her fiend apologised profusely and informed us she was rude generally !!

So be warned and stand your ground if you find yourself behind this gentleman or any other paid guide with a large party
As the actual worker at the desk said they are not the people police .

OtherwIse enjoy the site it is magnificent and the actual stag are superb

Dear Jezabel64, sorry but we have difficulties in understanding your review and the content of the event. We do not have any Tour Guide that matches the description you have made, so we are afraid you have followed another Guide in the Valley of the Temples. We have a Tour Leader on board and a Local Guide on the spot and we have never had any complaint about none of them, we do believe that you surely are referring to someone else. We are available for further clarifications. All teh best, SAT Group Guest Relation Manager

A fascinating look back in history

We travelled with our wonderful guide, Rosario who was guiding us round Sicily with Riviera Travel. He was so knowledgeable which made the site much more interesting and the whole of the valley with the ruins of the various temples was outstanding.
