Overview

A complex blend of art, religion, and history underpins the monuments of UNESCO-listed Florence’s Piazza del Duomo. Understand it in a single morning or afternoon on this guided small-group tour that’s perfect for culture vultures. Explore the Baptistery of San Giovanni, the Duomo, and the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, then climb the dome and the bell tower independently.

What to Expect

Greet your guide and small group on Piazza San Giovanni and stroll to the recently refurbished Baptistery, a whirl of mosaic and marble. Next, explore the Duomo (Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore), and enjoy an overview of the Cupola del Brunelleschi dome and Campanile di Giotto bell tower which you’ll climb independently after your tour is finished.

Your final stop is the newly reopened Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, where you can see the original artworks that once decorated the Duomo, Baptistery, and bell tower. Besides scores of statues and reliefs, marvel at Michelangelo’s Pietà sculpture and Ghiberti’s bronze doors, the Gates of Paradise, that once adorned the Baptistery.

Your ticket entitles you to climb the dome one hour after the tour ends. You can pick a time to ascend the bell tower but it must be within 48 hours of the start of your tour.

Wonderful guide, very informative

Easy to access and very informative. Fredricka was clearly passionate about the art, and offered a few additional observations that were not clear to the unexperienced eye. The museum was very interesting also, and the Duomo climb was exhausting but exhilarating. Would recommended this tour.
