You’ve heard about one of the world’s most famous painters, Vincent Van Gogh. But what do you really know about this Dutch artist? This tour will introduce you to the man behind the famous sunflowers and self-portraits that are featured in galleries around the world. See his work “The Potato Eaters” and “The Bedroom” as well as objects from his studio. Visit the world’s largest collection of Van Gogh’s works while learning about his troubled life from his days in Holland to his dramatic ending in France. And yes, we’ll discuss that whole ear incident.  Depending on whether the artwork is on loan or being restored, the following pieces of art may include Van Gogh's large collection of self portraits, early and obscure works, objects from his studio, Sunflowers, Yellow House and Wheat Field with Crows.

A wonderful visit to Rijksmuseum with Romy
We had a wonderful visit to Rijksmuseum with Romy. In a 2 1/2 hour visit, Romy captured all the points of interest and talked about every painting and piece of art with extreme knowledge and passion. We truly enjoyed every minute spent with Romy and she emailed me a link for the museums as she promised with a detailed explanation. We whole heartedly recommend booking a tour with Romy. If we could give this Tour more that 5/5 we would! Going to the Van Gogh Museum and seeing a collection of his incredible paintings was a major contributing factor to including Amsterdam in our travel plans on the way to the UK from New Zealand. In view of this we decided that we would benefit most by having an expert guide. We chose Babylon Tours and our Tour Guide Anna was ‘the icing on the cake’ and we were delighted with our choice! She certainly was the ‘expert guide’ we were hoping for. The cost was a little more than other tours that we had seen advertised but was reflected in the time and expertise she spent with us and 2 other couples in our small group tour. Her planned progression of paintings and sharing of related factual information was well thought out and reflected her study and passion for not only the paintings but also Van Gogh the man. While her knowledge was outstanding, she didn’t overwhelm us with too much and kept it a little lighthearted as well. After the tour concluded she shared with us via links corroborative information that she thought we would enjoy. In conclusion we highly recommend that you don’t miss visiting the Van Gogh Museum and to select Babylon Tours and especially to request the amazing Anna as your guide, you won’t be disappointed.

It’s hard to encapsulate in a few words just how superb our tour with Melissa at the Van Gogh Museum was. She combined the depth of her knowledge with a wonderful sense of humor, turning a mere museum tour into a truly memorable experience.

Melissa's expertise shone brightly as she vividly explained the backstory behind Van Gogh's art, allowing us to see each masterpiece with a new perspective. Her answers to our questions were comprehensive and enlightening, providing much more than just surface-level facts. She was approachable and patient, cultivating an environment where everyone felt comfortable to ask and learn.

What really set Melissa apart was her ability to navigate the museum with a level of efficiency that I've never seen before. Despite the crowds, we were moved through queues smoothly and promptly, which allowed us to maximize our time and see everything we wanted without feeling rushed.

I can say with absolute certainty that our experience at the Van Gogh Museum was greatly enhanced by Melissa's guidance. Her humor and charisma added a delightful layer to the tour, making the art even more engaging and captivating.

In conclusion, if you're planning to visit the Van Gogh Museum, I can't recommend Melissa enough. Her vast knowledge, sparkling humor, and excellent organization skills truly make her an exceptional guide. Take the tour with her, and I guarantee you'll leave the museum with a much deeper appreciation for Van Gogh's work and a smile on your face!

Our guide Anna Nikolaeva was absolutely brilliant. Anna was so engaging and so knowledgeable that this tour seemed to fly by. She gave us a great background to the life and times of Vincent Van Gogh, his family, his painting style and the times and places in which he painted. Anna ensured that we could all take in the paintings, manoeuvring our way through the crowds so that we felt we had paintings all to ourselves. I would highly recommend this tour and Anna, without her we would not have appreciated the Museum and the art anywhere near as much.

We recently took the van Gogh Museum guided tour and it was an absolute highlight of my trip to Amsterdam. The tour itself was semi-private with a maximum of 8 people, which was the perfect size. Our guide, Frank, was extremely knowledgeable about van Gogh and his work, and was able to provide a lot of insight and context to the paintings we were seeing. I particularly appreciated the reserved entry included in the tour, as it meant we were able to bypass the long lines and go straight into the museum. The small group size also meant that we were able to have a more intimate and personalized experience. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Van Gogh Museum - it truly enhanced my appreciation for the artist and his work.

Ewalt was truly an excellent and engaging guide. I hadn't wanted to book a tour, as it seemed too expensive, but this seemed to be the only way to access the sold-out Van Gogh museum on the day we needed to go. And, to my surprise, Ewalt made it feel as if the (high) price was completely worth it. It's a big museum, with hundreds of art works on display, many of them not by Van Gogh himself. So it turned out that having a knowledgable and astute guide was invaluable, helping to pick out the highlights of the collection, and to navigate to the most interesting paintings at moments when the crowds had thinned out a bit. Both I and my teenage daughter felt as if we had learned a huge amount, and been given a valuable insight into Van Gogh's life and work which we could not possibly have gleaned simply by reading the information labels on the paintings. An excellent tour, with a superb guide who made it wonderfully interesting and worthwhile.

Anna was outstanding. Her stories were informative and interesting and she took an extra 40 minutes (free) to take us around the temporary exhibit which you must see. The museum is booked up for 7-10 days; I came from america and was only here for 3 days so the only chance I could see the museum was through this tour. It was well worth the cost! I love art museums and Van Gogh museum is definitely one of the best in the world! You get an inside story of how van Gogh lost his ear, how he actually died and much more! You can get a profound insight and deeper appreciation of his work from Anna’s commentary. You cannot get this from an audioguide. Thank you so much Anna!

Our guide, Wolfgang, was fabulous. He was extremely knowledgeable about the artist and his changing painting techniques. He also told us many interesting stories about Van Gogh and his personality, as well as the likely cause of the artists "brain break" - the lead in his paints. Wolfgang was also very considerate of his clients limitations. best tour in Amesterdam.

When we visit museums in different tourist destinations, our preference is never to use a tour guide, for numerous reasons, but especially since it is not engaging and is text-book quality info.

But our niece really wanted to see the museum, and there were no more open admissions available, so we begrudgingly bought the tour, with intentions of skipping out once inside.

But, we were paired with another great group of 4 people, and our tour guide, Anita, instantly changed our minds about leaving. Anita was so engaging. You could tell that she was passionate about Van Gogh and his work. 3 out of the 4 of us weren't really excited to see the museum, as we were not huge fans of the work that we knew. By the time we left, though, Anita had shared so many stories and details about his life that we all walked away with a great appreciation for his work and chose to spend more time looking at the work we had not seen during the tour.

All the details we needed for the tour were provided, and made it easy to find our starting point. There were no issues with the entry, and it was a great experience all around. I don't know that we are convinced on doing organized tours, but it is safe to say that any tour Anita leads would be one we would happily and eagerly participate in.

Such an amazing experience that truly added to our niece's once in a lifetime trip! Thank you for putting it together and making it a reality!

This was hands down the most engaging, entertaining and fun museum tour I have ever experienced. Anna Nikolaeva was everything to this tour! I have traveled extensively through Europe and to countless museums. Her stories, anecdotes and knowledge of Van Gogh and more made this tour as priceless as the works we see. Please ask for Anna. Worth every cent.

We had Melissa as our tour guide. We booked because we missed out on getting tickets for the museum and we were really happy with it. We don't normally do guided tours, we prefer to just do our own thing but we would definitely look to book one again after this experience. Melissa was friendly and engaging and had loads of great information about Van Gogh, it was clear that she took a real interest herself. She also provided us with really useful information for our stay in Amsterdam. Overall we had a fantastic time and would recommend to anyone - 100% worth the price. Thank you Melissa :)
