    What to Expect
Visit: Moco Museum, Honthorststraat 20 (Museumplein) next to Van Gogh Museum, 1071 DE Amsterdam The Netherlands

The Moco Museum is located in Villa Alsberg in the middle of the Amsterdam's Museumplein. This townhouse was designed in 1904 by Eduard Cuypers, cousin of the renowned Pierre Cuypers who was responsible for the Rijksmuseum, which is on the opposite side of the square. The restyling of all the quarters was done by Studio Piet Boon.
Enjoy the current following exhibitions during your visit to the Moco Museum:
    Banksy: Laugh Now
On the ground floor you will find the elaborate Banksy “Laugh Now” exhibition. The exhibition contains around 50 original works by Street Art-legend Banksy. For the first time in history there is a Banksy exhibition in a museum.
Moco museum is displaying all his famous works like Laugh Now, Barcode, Girl with Balloon, Kids on Guns, Pulp Fiction, Flower Thrower, Monkey Queen, Kate Moss, Bomb Hugger, Soup Can and many more. The main piece during this exhibition is the painting “Beanfield”, which is 2,5 x 3,5 meters. This piece has not been on display since 2009. A very important canvas that characterizes Banksy as an activist artist. Banksy is well known for his outdoor art. You can find his pieces of street art all around the world. In London you can even buy maps marking the locations where you can find these pieces of art, which are mostly protected. Not everyone knows that Banksy also makes art for indoors. Original and unique works on canvas, wood and paper.
ICY & SOT: A moment of Clarity
The fact that the young Iranian brothers Icy (34) and Sot (29) are called the ‘Banksy of Iran’ is clear. In their own country, their work is not only considered controversial, it is even banned. Not withstanding, the work of these street artists literally holds a mirror to the current Iranian society. With their work they offer an idiosyncratic view on themes like oppression, fame, freedom, war and dreams. The talent of the brothers did not go unnoticed and soon Icy and Sot got the chance to leave the streets of Tabriz tempted by New York.
Admiration among art lovers increased even more in The Big Apple. Success seemed assured, but not without sacrifice: By embracing their success in America, returning to their native country became impossible.
We now know that Icy and Sot did not give up their future in their native country in vain. The duo currently holds several exhibitions in New York and are working hard to gain international success. Just recently (February 6, 2018) the two were the subject of discussion thanks to a playful action on Wall Street. By placing a gigantic crumpled dollar bill in the middle of New York’s financial district, the two opposed greed and the volatility of capitalism.

Expected this to be a pretentious load of rubbish but the reality could not be further from this. Only about 50 or so pieces to look at but they are all great fun without the usual explanations as to why art is so great, just...More

Everything I wanted as a novice art appreciater. I'm not that into art, a picture is a picture but I will admit that some times you see something and it makes you think. This is what the Momo does. Set in a supercool old house/grand...More

The Moco museum is advertised throughout Amsterdam so after visiting museums nearby, we thought it’d be a good idea to visit the Moco as well. It’s 15€ a ticket and we were lucky to skip the line - the queue is always massive. The reason...More
