About
We want to present different types of wine like green, white,Rose, and red that you will taste from different regions of Portugal. You will learn about the different types of grapes from each wine. Appreciate through your senses the different variety of colours, diversity of flavours like fruits, range of sweetness, the level of tannin and the classification of the wine body. And experience a selection of Portuguese products that we have sorted out that match with the wines. Wine always goes with cheese, but we wanted to go over and above a cured goat and cow cheese that we have opted for. Don’t only we want to take you to the traditional canning fishes that were made in the Algarve. We want to take you to taste a variety of fishes that are confecione with an array of condiments that will also reflect quality, efficiency, and modernity. Red wines always appeal meat, and nothing better to finish this tour with the supreme tapas that the black pig derivatives from Alentejo have to offer.

      Globalization and Sense of History
Excellent city walking tour. Ligios is extremely knowledgeable, well prepared, engaging, and has the backstory on Lagos. He is a long time resident and has studied the history, archeology, architecture, food, and daily life. He is worked with a photographer to provide photos of what city life looked and felt like over time. Has family here and has made connections with many people and interviewed them to get a clear sense of the many kinds of relationships that make up this very creative and open minded city which lends itself to globalization’s nadir. Take a chance to surprise yourself and take a walk with him!

Interesting insights into Lagos's rich street art
The tour itself is very informative although I would not label it as Lagos Free Walking Tour With Local Historian - the guide tells you upfront that he is expecting a tip of at least 10 euros, and he is more into street art history than about history stricto sensu. The tour lasts almost two hours but covers very little geographical grounds. It is best suited to people who just arrived in Lagos as the guide gives a lot of tips for tourists. The guide is certainly knowledgeable and entertaining, and the tour is divided into several themed sections. This being said, I was extremely put off by his constant coughing (into open air or into his hand, and then handing you out things to sample or look at) or trying to dislodge a hair from his mouth. Hopefully feedback will help him correct this aspect of his otherwise very informative and entertaining tour.

Walking tour covering history, cutlure right up to current day. Great place to start a visit to Lagos
A great way to get to understand the history of the town and would thoroughly recommend to do at the start of your holiday as not only is it very informative about Lagos, its history, places to visit during your stay and street art but also he gives great advice of places to see in and around Lagos and also slightly further affield. Its free but obviously relies upon your perception of value at the end as he wont be able to do it long term if you dont tip but we thought it was excellent and really pleased we joined a group. They meet at 10AM in the centre of town most days

      Excellent
Excellent walking tour with Ligio today. Despite having been in Lagos for a week he took us to places we hadn’t found. He gave us lots of information and advice in an engaging amusing manner. The food tastings were an unexpected bonus. Definitely worth the recommended 10 euro tip. If we had been in Lagos for longer we would definitely have booked his wine tasting evening.

      Wine tasting and tapas review
Myself and three friends did the wine tasting and tapas and I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Lagos! Eraldo and Ligio (the two hosts) are so friendly and provide a very fun experience. The history of the wine and their passion for it is amazing and the experience is especially interesting due to Ligio’s knowledge of history of through his degree. Also, the wine is lovely too!

This walking tour is a must do!
Did this tour with Ligio last week. This was very informative and i would recommend doing this early in your visit so you can get the most out of your visit to Lagos. Apart from the history of Lagos Ligio hands out many tips about places to eat, drink and shop on the way. Especially liked the visit to the fish market and the food hall above. All in all a good tour by an amusing guy!

This is THE walking tour to do in Lagos! Ligio is a local historian who really knows all about Lagos and shares lots of interesting facts and stories about the town in this relaxed and fun walking tour. Recommended as a great way to get your bearings, learn a bit about Lagos and also receive some recommendations on things to see and do.

      Guide Lígio’s passion for Lagos
Loved Lígio’s historical perspective, his quirky historical facts and his passion for Lagos and Portugal! His energy and enthusiasm was infectious and the quality of his information was first rate. He was knowledgeable, witty and creative. This is a fantastic tour which takes you on a historical, botanical and artistic lap of Lagos. Famous figures, historical events, artists, street art and taste tests in the local market and, to finish off, with coffee (tea or soda), a tasty Pasteis de Nata and delicious gelato with some hilarious humour along the way. Guide Lígio knows his city! Guide Ligio knows his town. This is a fun tour which takes you on a historical, botanical and artistic lap of Lagos - famous figures, historical events and taste tests in the local market and ice creamery with some humour along the way. Must do when in Lagos!
This tour was absolutely amazing! I did many free walking tours in different parts of the world and this one was definitely the best one! We not only heard a lot of interesting information about the history and culture, but also street art, plants and even got to taste some food samples. All of this in a great atmosphere and with lots of jokes and laughter. We were also given a lot of good recommendation about places to eat, drink and some attractions.

A Must Do Tour in Lagos!
We just returned from this tour and want to tell you what a great tour it is! If you are staying in Lagos or anywhere along the Algarve, you must explore this beautiful city. Ligio makes that so enjoyable. It is easy to see that he loves the history of his home and he loves to share that with people from all over the globe. We love to learn local history from guides wherever we travel and Ligio's tour is the best we've ever had. He packs a lot into the 2.5 hours while he also keeps the pace comfortable for everyone. Definitely take this tour; you won't be disappointed.

The only tour you need to take in Lagos
A great way to learn about Lagos town and history with an enthusiastic guide Ligio. We were part of a mixed group with all ages and countries. The 2 1/2 hour tour eventually took 3 hours but it didn’t seem like it as time flew by. We’ve been coming to Lagos for over thirty years but we’re advised to take this tour and we are very pleased we did. There’s so much more to the history of this wonderful town/city that we didn’t know about. A must for any visitor. Also we were given so great recommendations for bars and restaurants some we’ve already used and some we need to try.

This is a must to really appreciate Lagos
When you sign up make sure you get Ligio Alves <ligioalves@hotmail.com> as your tour guide. (Contact him directly instead of thru Guru Walks.)All the other reviews say it; he is the best. Passionate and knowledgeable of Lagos, its history and the people that were and are part of it. Very caring of the community and that you get to have a "local's" feel for all of it, the people and the things to do, the street art and more. His recommendations for everything except food were spot on an very helpful. For food, he is Portuguese and their tastes are sometime quite different from what many prefer. They like (IMHO) too much salt and not enough other herbs and spices though there is almost always enough garlic and EVOO. But of 4 restaurants he thought highly of we tried only the Ice Cream and Pasteria were places we have gone back too. The two restaurants were at best only enh. But we've been to sights and used other tours he thought well of and like his tour we found them to be great. His tour was so good we may do it a second time (to fill in what was missed and friends can get the same perspective we have). The tour is free but he does say a tip is appropriate (and suggests 10 Eu): we were so please we did appreciably more. He really is that good.

We had a wonderful time at this wine and tapas tasting. We were provided a lot of detailed information about the regions, where the wine came from, and how the grapes were selected. The wine was delicious (big pours) and the tapas complimented the wine perfectly. I definitely recommend.

Wine pairings were interesting. Sampled a nice variety of green, white and red wines. Host was a bit distracted by the tapas preparation and not was not always focused on information on the wines or the pairings.

Earlier this week we did a “Free Walking Tour” of Lagos. Of course, nothing is truly free but for the suggested 10 euro tip we got a wonderful 3 hours of information and anecdotes. Following this tour we did a wine tasting and tapas with guide, Ligio. It was 2 hours of of well chosen wines from simple Vinho Verde to complicated Douro Reds - although he had lots of information to share, there was such a nice convivial atmosphere that we didn’t learn as much as we could have. Kudos to Ligio, what a wonderful evening.

If you are lucky enough to have the company of people you gel with then you might have a nice evening (this is my only rational for the good reviews), otherwise this is very poor.
You get large amounts of cheap wine, small amounts of cheap food and the only knowledge passed on is what you could read from the bottle/ jars.
By the end of the 2 hours the effect of little food and cheap wine could be felt but for us this didn’t result in a pleasant experience, was very glad to leave.

Dear Janine, Thank you for your review, and we are really sorry that you had a bad experience. If you say that our wines "are cheap", you can't compare the prices that you pay in Britain with the prices in Portugal thanks to taxes and for transport. For that reason, we invite you to visit this site, www.winespectator.com where you can look for the wines you have tasted in our shop, so you can see the high score they had in a blind tasting has the price you pay in your country. We offer this experience, so our customers can learn about the high quality vs price that we practise in Portugal in wines and groumet food. Therefore, we offer you a wine tasting for you and another person so we can fix the bad experience you had in our shop. Yours sincerely, Lígio Alves,

We actually booked this before doing the walking tour and didnt realise it was the same person but it made the evening even more fun, relaxed and engaging as we alreay knew his knowledge of Lagos which was a great starting point. This is not for wine snobs (how could it be for this price!) but rather for people who are interested in the different types of wine that are found within Portugal and made for a fun evening that was informative and tasty! We ended up quite tipsy by the end but that is in no way essential but the evening flowed really well and the tapas that were served gave a good representation of the portugese way! Thankyou for a fabulous evening and adding to our great enjoyment of Lagos
