An experiance not to be missed!
Highly recomandable tour to see the alto Douro region with breathtaking views and very pleasent stops to visit beautiful old Quintas, their wineyards and gardens. The whole region is pictoresque enough to seem nearly unreal. A must for winelovers, fotofreaks and lovers of nature and arquitecture. Our guide Joao was very amiable and caring and an extremely competent driver. This is not to be underestimated on very winding roads on cliffedge high above the river. Overall a pure pleasure, even with 34°C.

Request Pedro Xavier for your tour!
When you’re spending 4 to 5 hours in a minivan, the tour guide can make or break a trip. Pedro Xavier and driver Antonio were super guides/driver on our day trip to Braga and Guimaraes. Pedro was genuinely enthusiastic to tell us about our destinations, never slipping into “autopilot.” Patient,y answered questions and even had a super Plan B when the Braga Cathedral seemed unavailable due to a wedding. Braga and Guimaraes are charming and very walkable. Highly recommend this day trip. .

    A must do from Porto
This day trip out to the Douro valley was the highlight of of two week trip around Portugal. Diana, our guide and the company are well organised and efficient. Diana was very knowledgeable, unhurried, good-humored and made our trip very enjoyable. After a pleasant boat trip on the Douro river admiring the scenery of the valley and just relaxing, we went to a small little winery close by up on a high hill with great views over the valley. Here we had a tour on how they make olive oil, afterwhich we had some wine tasting, together with almonds, bread and local olive oil. This really got everyone relaxed and in an enjoyable spirit. We were then taken back down the valley to a restaurant for lunch and enjoyed good company with good food and wine. In the afternoon we were taken to a larger wine and port producer and had a tour on how they make Port, followed by some port wine tasting, which was very yummy and enjoyable. From here we headed back to Porto, but after all the wine and Port, we slept the whole way home. Overall, a great experience with professional company and superb guide.

Douro Valley small group tour with winetasting
Four middle-aged Aussies had a great day with Rafael, despite him being a last minute fill-in for a sick colleague. He and the driver, the company owner, looked after us well and even managed to have negotiated a special touch at each stop for the birthday boy among us. Rafael speaks excellent English and was happy to answer our questions about political, social and economic issues. Tip - pack some snacks (we had some nuts and fruit) as there’s one winery stop and a boat trip with a bar before lunch. Thoroughly enjoyable and would highly recommend.

Porto Three Hour Walking Tour with Rafael
We (my husband and parents) did the 3 hour walking tour of Porto on March 24 with Rafael. It was an excellent tour and we learned a lot about the city and it's history. Rafael spoke clearly and explained things in detail. He showed us some of the main sites and gave us recommendations for other places to visit and restaurants. Our coffee break was nicely timed and gave us an opportunity to talk more personally with Rafael. The tour was well paced and well organized. Rafael asked for our input to create a more personalized tour. We would highly recommend this tour with Rafael.

    Thoroughly enjoyed our day
Very well organised good tour guide, Diana, very knowledgable and fun. Gave lots of information was unhurried and answered all questions very well. Lunch was good and the morning wine tasting excellent. Afternoon port tasting a bit soulless but ok. Didn’t like the first stop in the morning seemed a bit odd but the second town nice. Would recommend

    Brilliant day out
Just got back home after visit to Porto where my wife and I spent 5 days. On one of the days we fancied going out of the city and this was ideal. The mini bus picked us up from our hotel on time and drove us in comfort with just four other passengers to the Douro. The wine and oil tasting was informative and the optional boat trip was good and the cool breeze was most welcome. Lunch was very good and included wine. This was then followed by the tour of the Croft vineyard with more tasting, this time of Port and a tour. All in all an excellent day with good tour guides and good company.

    We had the best guide
We took both the 3 hour city walking tour and the full day Douro Valley tour. Both of these tours would have only been average if not for our guide, Catia. She is not only knowledgeable but kind, sweet, generous and caring. She answered all of our questions and when she didn't know the answer (a rare occurrence) she made sure to find out and let you know. She made my birthday very special complete with a candle in my cake and a small gift. The company correctly sent an experienced guide with the new person who clearly was unable to conduct the Douro Valley tour on his own. A suggestion to them is to provide cold bottles of water to the guests. We spent time out in the hot sun and had multiple alcoholic beverage tastings. This could easily be a path to dehydration. Most of us ended up purchasing bottles of water at the final stop.

Enjoyed our guide, but several criticisms overall
We were 4 family members who signed up for the full day Duoro Valley tour from Porto. We were picked up by the small van, and unfortunately the back seats (the only ones remaining besides the front next to the guide/driver) were not too comfortable, and our 4th person had to sit up front, away from us. Our guide was pleasant and knowledgable and an excellent driver on those hairpin curves/turns once we arrived in the Valley. The hour boat ride was lovely. Our main criticisms- we did one of the two wine tastings before lunch, but it was already early afternoon. We were hungry and the wine just so so. THEN. MY MAJOR CRITICISM. The advertisement said "lunch at a villa." (I've had lunch at a villa before. In Tuscany. It was divine. We hoped for a repeat performance.) WE WERE DEPOSITED AT A CAFETERIA. IN A LITTLE HOLE IN THE WALL TOWN. WITH METAL CHAIRS AND HORRIBLE FOOD. I am not being dramatic. The food and location and "ambiance" (if you can call it that) were horrible, and certainly NOT AS REPRESENTED. We complained upon returning home. Viator said they checked with the subcontractor and the "food was fresh and as advertised." ABSOLUTELY NOT. I WAS ENTERTAINING FAMILY AND I WAS EMBARRASSED BY THE LUNCH LOCATION AND FOOD. We took tour #12546DuoroValley. DO NOT TAKE THIS TOUR.

Private Tour: Visited a winery, Port winery, and boat tour
My friends and I wanted to do a private tour, and this one was perfect. The tour guide picked us up from our hotel, and we headed to the Douro Valley. Our first stop was in Pinhao for the boat tour. It was very relaxing, however, there was no guide to tell us a little bit about the river. We then visited our first winery, which also had a room where they used to make olive oil. Very interesting! Lunch was back in Pinhao, followed by a visit to a port winery. This too was very interesting. Both places had tastings, which were very good and generous with their pours. My only complaint here was that they sent us a guide with only 3 weeks experience. While she was very sweet, she was also very inexperienced and couldn't answer the majority of questions. Very frustrating, considering we paid WELL about the small group tour price. My advice is if you book with this company, ask about how much experience your guide will have. I am sure if we had someone with more experience, it would have been a more fulfilling tour.

    Relaxed & interesting day
We really enjoyed this day & would recommend The Other Side as a company. We were picked up on time & the trip was exactly as advertised. The scenery was great - even on a rainy day! Our guide was lovely and very knowledgeable & it was a good size of group to travel with. The wine tasting was fun & the food at lunch good. (We also did the walking tour with The Other Side which was good. Saw the main sites & a couple of quirky places too).

Great day out in the vineyards
We did the one day tour which took us to two wineries and a restaurant for lunch. We paid extra for a river boat cruise. We had a really fabulous day. The journey was not too long and the scenery was good. Both winery visits were very informative - and tasty! Lunch was excellent. The river boat trip was really superb - well worth the extra 10 euros each. Thoroughly recommend this trip. Its not cheap, but it is worth it.

I visited Porto with a group of friends for my 40th Birthday and we booked the Porto Walking Tour as well as the day trip to the Douro Valley & Vineyards.

Both tours were conducted by Diana and were absolutely brilliant. It is such a great way to visit the city and its surroundings. Diana was knowledgeable, friendly, enthusiastic and always happy to take things at our pace. She made our trip to Porto very special. Thank you!

I would definitely recommend Diana and “The Other Side” for anyone looking to discover Porto and the Douro Valley.

Our walking tour in Porto with The Other Side was absolutely wonderful! Ana, our guide, took us to some incredible sites, sharing the history of each location. She was very knowledgeable and passionate about the city. Her love for Porto was contagious. My mom and I had the best time and we highly reccomend this tour for anyone visiting Porto!

With the very accomplished Raphael as our guide this very easy paced tour was informative and included enough of the sites to really help us get a feel for the city and it’s layout.
Good value and many local tips from Raphael to add to the “ to do” list.

This may have have been the best walking tour I’ve ever taken ( and I’ve taken many over the years). My guide, Pedro, had an incredible passion and knowledge of the city’s history, architecture, and culture and he was able to convey all of it in a captivating way. A true storyteller. The three hour + tour was like meeting Doctor Who and hopping in and out of his Tardis throughout the 2000+ years of Porto history ( nerdy reference I know - but one really does feel like you’re traveling through time and space on this tour). I highly recommend this tour on your first day in the city - you’ll appreciate everything else you do in Porto so much more.

Raphael was an excellent guide showing us the side of Porto you can't find on a bus tour. He kept our 9 and 11 year old children interested and had a great knowledge of Porto - you could tell he loves this city. The stop for the most delicious custard tart (and I have tried a few!) was well timed and I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone looking for a tour that takes in more than just the 'standard'.

We enjoyed our tour with Diana, and walked to quite a number of locations, but it would have been a better tour if she had shared more of the history, cultural and social facts and insights of Porto. It was a pleasant morning, and with only one other couple, which was nice, but the additional information would have made the tour excellent. --Not just overviews.

We met up with Marie-Ann at 3.00pm on a rather overcast afternoon - perfect for a stroll around the city. We found the meeting spot easily and the walking group totalled - TWO!! Marvellous. It meant that we could quiz Marie-Ann on every aspect of the tour and to her credit - she knew her stuff and her use of English was exemplary. The tour takes in many of the more familiar sites but there were one or two unexpected gems - the materials museum was fascinating as was the photographic museum. It really was a worthwhile tour made that bit more interesting because of our guide's obvious love and enthusiasm for her city. Thanks Marie - Ann.

The weather was cold and grey and we shared the tour with two French women which meant hanging around in the cold while our young guide did her speech in French as well as English. We didn't visit anywhere unusual and really we could have gone round and read the information ourselves. Our guide was quite sweet and pleasant but unimpressive. The 'custard tart tasting' was one tart in Nata, a chain of cafes. At least it made me walk around when I could have been in a cosy bar...??
