Overview
From towering waterfalls to bubbling geysers, some of Iceland’s most dramatic landmarks are clustered around the Golden Circle. This full-day, guided coach tour takes in the highlights, including Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss Waterfall, and Strokkur Waterspout. Let someone else navigate and drive, so you can relax and enjoy the spectacular views as a guide shares the fascinating stories behind the scenery. Tour includes convenient pickup and drop-off from Reykjavik.
What to Expect
Meet a driver at your centrally located Reykjavik hotel, or at the cruise port, and then leave the city behind as you head into Iceland’s rugged, mountainous interior.

The first stop on the Golden Circle route is Thingvellir National Park, where Iceland held its first parliamentary assembly. Hear guide commentary about the site as you admire the pristine beauty, and peer into the Thingvellir Rift, two tectonic plates joined by a narrow valley.

Next, head to Gullfoss Waterfall, double-tiered cascades that send up spectacular mist and occasional rainbows.

Continue along the Golden Circle to an area simmering with volcanic activity, hot springs, pools, and steam vents. Keep your camera ready at Strokkur, a powerful waterspout that erupts 98 feet (30 meters) in the air. This Golden Circle tour concludes with drop-off at your original departure point.

Do This on your own

Of the three stops, there was only one worth seeing: Gullfoss (sp?) waterfall. Rent a car and tour on your own.

On a 2 night stopover in Iceland my wife and I took this tour (6 hours) - it was fantastic and made especially so by our brilliant guide, Siggi. I am sure he must be the "walking encylopaedia" of Iceland referred to in another review...More

Very informative and enjoyable

Our tour guide was excellent - funny and also extremely informative. He was like a walking encyclopaedia of Iceland! (Unfortunately didn't note down his name) The tour lasted pretty much all day (10.30am to 7pm) so definitely schedule out an entire day for it. The...More

We went in January and it was dark until about 10.00 and then got dark about 4.00 pm. You can always check with their Tourist Bureau about sunrise and sunset.

Hi, Sharon. Our tour was not dangerous and there were no drops or heights. In winter some paths can be slippery and icy, so you must have good shoes and put on the spikes most buses have available. Otherwise you would be... More
