Overview
Austria’s Danube Valley is known for its stunning landscapes and UNESCO World Heritage Site status, and it’s a popular choice for a day trip from Vienna. This tour takes in all the highlights, including a guided tour of Melk Abbey, a boat cruise along the Danube River (seasonal), and a trip to see views along the Wachau Valley.
What to Expect
Arrive at the central Vienna meeting point for a 9am departure. Travel to the Danube Valley aboard a comfortable coach and follow the Danube River into the countryside filled with dense woodlands and rolling vineyards.

In the UNESCO-listed Wachau Valley, listen as your guide points out historic landmarks, such as the medieval castle of Burgruine Durnstein and riverside towns, like the wine village of Krems.

Board a boat in Spitz for a 1.5-hour Danube River cruise (summer season only), taking in dramatic views while gliding downstream to Melk.

Then enjoy a guided visit of Melk Abbey, an historic monument of the region. Admire the baroque-style facade and learn more about the monastery’s long history as you explore its interiors, featuring some medieval frescoes and a library of medieval manuscripts.

Purchase lunch or browse the shops in Melk village before boarding the coach for the return journey to Vienna.

Worth it.

We took this day trip as a break during our Vienna visit and also because I had not yet had an opportunity to see the Abbey at Melk. The bus ride was more enjoyable than I had expected, with good commentary by an experienced guide....More

Great way to see the Danube

It was a short but scenic trip! Seeing the wineries and many other castles along the way was really special. Wish we had had more time to spend on the river. It's a full day to see the abbey and take the river back to...More

Highlight of our Vienna Tour

Tour started by Bus from Sudtiroler Platz Station which dropped us at the Shipstation, cruising between idyllic settings. I booked this trip without any input other than what I saw and read on trip advisor. We enjoyed it very much and would definitely recommend it. Be prepared for some self guidance during the interim stop in Durnstein. Just a few minutes to walk...More

Hi, not denying the fact completely that walking is indeed required, but it isn't very exhaustive. The walk around the abbey has stairs & isn't much of a deal to walk around. The walk in the old town gets tricky with steep... More
