- Danielle V0 contributionsEnjoyable Day TripWe recently took a day trip to Budapest, and it exceeded all my expectations! The itinerary was perfectly paced, allowing ample time to explore the city’s stunning landmarks. The lunch recommendation was spot-on, offering delicious local cuisine in a lovely setting—it was the perfect break in our day. Our tour guide was exceptional—extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the city’s history, culture, and hidden gems. Their insights truly enriched the experience. I highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to make the most of a day in Budapest!Written January 6, 2025
- Douglas C0 contributionsA day well spent visiting a new capital city. The tour guide/driver was punctual, polite and knowledgeable. The drive to Budapest was peppered with historical references. Once in the city of Buda, we received an excellent tour of the castle district and enjoyed a coffee at the oldest coffee house in the city. The Pest side of the river provided us with not only beautiful views of the city, but provided additional history of the founding of the city and ample time to do some personal touring.Written January 1, 2025

- 12aileend0 contributionsAmazing day trip to Prague!!My favorite day trip was to Prague!! Such a beautiful city that I will definitely go back. Linda, our local guide had so much information to share and brought us around to see as much of the city as she could in our allotted time. She gave us lots of tips and was willing to help and answer any questions we asked. Our driver Balazs was so kind and also shared lots of wonderful history regarding Austria and the Czech Republic. I would definitely use this tour company again when I am back in Vienna and would highly recommend them to anyone!!Written December 28, 2024

Was good for a sampler of Budapest as it takes 2 and a half hours each way so can’t expect to spend to much time at each spot did get 2and half hours free time. Thanks Marcus!Written December 21, 2024
- Navigate6544110 contributionsA MUST WHILE IN VIENNA!!This was one of my most memorable tours. Of course Hallstatt speaks for itself, its beauty and charm. The other villages we stopped at on the way are lovely as well. Being able to enjoy some time and not have to navigate myself was a real treat. What made the trip so memorable was the camaraderie of the group. We hit it off right from the start! There were 2 hilarious strangers (to each other) who had the rest of us laughing so hard, it was something I'll always remember and made the trip extraordinary. The breakfast stop was expensive, as other reviewers have mentioned. And the young man at the checkout was less than friendly. I would have appreciated knowing how to get out of the restaurant! The entrance and exit are in different places and you have to walk through the 'store' part to get out. If there was one thing that put a damper on the journey, I feel the need to mention the driver and his ethnic comments along the way. Very poor taste. I recall other reviews saying the same thing. It's a shame this driver hasn't taken note and deleted those unnecessary and hurtful words from his commentary. It looks like there are at least 2 drivers for this excursion. I got to experience both of them due to a glitch in picking the guests up from their hotel. The first one was great - friendly, chatty and funny. The one for the actual drive to Hallstatt was disappointing. Still, this trip is well worth going on. Hallstatt is romantic, pretty and dreamy.Written December 10, 2024
- Julie K0 contributionsDon’t Miss This Excursion To Budapest! What a treat it was to finally see Budapest after hearing so much about it for so many years! Our tour guide Zoltan was wonderfully personable, knowledgeable, and fun to spend the day with — and his excellent driving and parking skills were truly a marvel to behold! The small group (5 total) and comfortable van made this longish excursion a very pleasant one — so glad we were able to squeeze this visit to Budapest into our travel itinerary!Written December 9, 2024
- Lainie0070 contributionsA good trip to get a taste of PragueMy tour guide and driver, Marco, was late on his way to pick me up for the day trip but he sent me a message via WhatsApp, which was appreciated. He was friendly and knowledgeable and a good driver. The drive is 3 1/2 hrs one way so expect to spend a lot of time in the van. Our local guide in Prague, Jane, was friendly and knowledgeable, but seemed more concerned that we shop from local businesses (perhaps they're all friends with her). She was knowledgeable about Prague, but we didn't visit some of the locations on our itinerary like Prague Castle. Also, when she was asked for recommendations for lunch she didn't have any specific places to point us to, she just told the us to go to Old Town. Keep in mind all restaurants and souvenirs shop are in Old Town and the walk back to the meeting point in the New Town was almost a 10 minute walk away from Old Town. This meant your free time is limited to eat, shop, and do what you like.Written December 5, 2024

- 214stj0 contributionsAmazing HallstattHallstatt is every bit as amazing as we hoped from the pictures. While the driving is pretty long from Vienna, we were glad to have made the trip in the off season rather than going on our own. Hallstatt is really a tiny village and it was easy to see how it could be overwhelmed by busloads of tourists that bring in 10X their population in a day during the height of the season. Our tour guide in the town was terrific and gave us a great appreciation for the local history and nearby salt mines. Even though we had sloppy weather on our day, the village and location are still very picturesque and made the drive worth it. Our driver, Roman, was very good and made sure to take regular comfort breaks. Our stops on the way down gave us the chance to see a couple of cute villages we would have otherwise missed.Written December 2, 2024
- brightnik0 contributionsA must do!I had a great time in this trip. Thanks to our driver Zoltan and the fellow passengers for making this trip much more fun than I expected. We had a good breakfast on our way and made 2 stops before reaching Hallstatt. The place was beautiful! Had a wonderful experience.Written November 27, 2024

Johann was a wonderful tour driver(very safe) and guide. Newer and very clean Mercedes van. He used a microphone in the van. Personable and very knowledgeable. Johann gave guests upmost courtesy and entertaining. Really enjoyed the stops at the gorgeous lakes and picture opportunities on the way to Salzburg. Johann was a 5+ star.
Our guide in Salzburg( I don’t recall her name) was knowledgeable but had very limited personality with a flat affect. When a few guests made some light hearted jokes she just stared at them like they were an inconvenience. The only reason I gave this tour a 4 was for this guide.
It is a long day. Stops at lakes on way to Salzburg, about 90 minutes with the guide in Salzburg then about 2-2.5 hours on your own in Salzburg.
I am glad I went with White Alligator Tours with Johann our driver and guide.

We booked our day trips around Austria and other neighboring cities with White Alligators. Overall we had a wonderful experience, we had Peter as our driver 3 times and Balasz once and both were awesome, they’re very knowledgeable in regards to the history and customs of Austria and the places we visited. They were also punctual in picking us up from our hotel then dropping off after the tours. They also laid out the itinerary in an organized way so we know how to expect. They were very friendly and approachable too so you don’t feel intimidated to ask questions and they spoke very good English. There local guides such as Dale in Salzburg, Christiana in Hallstat, and Tatiana in Prague were knowledgeable and approachable. Overall we had a great experience with them and I’d highly recommend them to anyone who plans on exploring Austria and it’s surrounding neighbors!

The trip was tremendous. White Alligator worked hard to get ahold of me the day before for some important pick-up information, which was very impressive. The group was small, 7 people plus our guide. They offered a very comfortable Mercedes van. Peter, our guide, provided insightful conversation throughout the trip. He talked just enough and had very knowledgeable information to share about history, culture, geography, etc... We spent a nice amount of time in the lake district. In Salzburg, Peter handed us over to David, our local guide, for our one-hour walking tour. He was equally friendly and helpful. We were then given a 2.5 hour block of free time in Salzburg. Overall the day included a lot of drive time, but the scenic views driving thru the alps was well worth it all. A great experience.

Marco was one of the best guides any of us have had. He was informative, polite, making sure the group had everything they need, on time for all pick ups, kept us informed on how the day was going to go. It truly was a delight. Thank you for a fabulous experience!

A better tour you would be hard to find. This small tour of 6 participants was very intimate, the drive was comfortable in a brand new Mercedes van, with water and free wifi provided. Our driver Marco was so polite and extremely informative. He spoke with a microphone so we could all hear while driving as he shared knowledge of the area and the history. The stops along the way were perfect, what beautiful countryside. Once in Salzburg we had tour guide Gabi, she was charming as she took us around and showed us the sights, sharing stories and answering questions. I highly recommend this tour and company, every step from booking to confirmation to the trip itself was professional. Thank you Alligator Tours for a wonderful day, it was the highlight of our time in Vienna.

There was not enough time spent in Salzburg to see anything let alone eat lunch and go through the Christmas markets. We should have just taken the train from Vienna to Salzburg and had time to do things. Also the “local” guide wasn’t great. It was hard to hear her and she kept talking about the sound of music. If I had wanted that tour I would have reserved it. Don’t waste your money on this excursion. Our driver Peter was fine.

Dear renee s,
thank you very much for reviewing your experience with us.
Kindly note that we are cooperating with several local guides in Salzburg and have already looked into what happened during your walking tour through Salzburg.
We are sorry that your local guide couldn’t live up to your expectations and we have taken appropriate measures.
Please note that you were part of a small-group tour of 8 persons. If you couldn’t hear her well, you should have told it to your local guide right away.
Kindly also note that your review suggests that your local guide took you to, instead of the main sights, the local Christmas markets. Your local guide, however, did the traditional walking tour through Salzburg’s old town, a part of Salzburg basically converted into a major Christmas market during the Christmas season.
Your local guide, on the other hand, lived up to what we are committed to do according to the official schedule (see in the description part) of our product ‘Salzburg Small-Group Day Trip from Vienna’. This clearly states that we also show you some of the “filming locations from the classic film ‘The Sound of Music’.”
We hope that we were able to clarify the different points mentioned in your review.
Kind regards,
The White Alligator Tours Team

So pleased that I chose this great day tour to Salzburg given my limited time in Austria!
The pick up was punctual and from the start our guide, Peter, was a font of knowledge, giving so many useful snips of information. It was great to hear such a varied type of info mtion throughout the day while travelling by comfortable minibus and on the multiple 'stunning' scenic stops on the way to Salzburg.
I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who is short on time and wants to get out of Vienna for the day.
A big thank you to both Peter and Dale (our guide in Salzburg), for an absolutely fabulous day.

This trip was absolutely wonderful! Very clean van, AC, wifi, water. Our guide (driver) Balazs is a very nice young man, very knowledgeable and he treated us travelers as his family. As we drove past different parts of our trip he gave us a lot of info about Austria's rich history, people and places. Very interesting! In Salzburg we met local tour guide Maria, a very proud Salzburgian, she knows everything about history, traditions, people and events, we instantly loved her. Overall this trip was very well organized and executed, everything worked exactly as it was promised, we had a great time, thank you White Alligator Tours!

An excellent day trip, fuss free, with smooth driving and professional tour guidance by Peter. The journey by car was 300km each way, and the weather got colder as we got from Vienna to the Lake District and finally to Salzburg (remember your warm clothing + umbrellas in case of rain!). Peter (and later Maria, our local guide at Salzburg) definitely has a rich working knowledge of Austria, especially since it holds many historical and cultural landmarks. They both spoke English well too.
Only woe - there was no allocated time for lunch, and our free time only commenced after the walking tour at Salzburg ended past 2pm (we hadn't eaten since the pickup for the tour at 6.45am). Would be good if the agency had warned us so we could pack a lunch or pick up some pastries during the rest stops. Other than that, a good experience!

Communication re pick-up time was appreciated, friendly introduction from Driver/Guide Peter. Helped all 7 guests out of coach. Very informative re areas stopped at, travelled through & comfort stops when suggested & required. Peter kept us up to date with advice on pick-up times & places when we had some free time. I had to phone office on pickup place in Salzburg & found staff helpful & supportive. The group of strangers were very comfortable with Peter, asking questions which were always answered thoughtfully & with depth of knowledge. Passengers interacted well with him & each other indicating complete confidence in his driving ability, professional conduct & knowledge of this region of Austria. A long Day Trip but I would certainly recommend Peter & White Alligator Tours.

In Aug 2019 we were picked up at 7.00am by Balasz from White Alligator Tours for day trip to Salzburg.
Drove through Austrian Alps and stopped at Linz for coffee and strudel.
Stopped on Attensee for breath taking views, and again at Unterach am Attensee - Klimt statue.
Stopped for half hour at Sankt Gilgen - birthplace of Mozart’s mother.
Drove past Mondsee and arrived Salzburg at 1.00pm and met local guide Veronika.
Walked through the gardens at Mirabell Palace (scenes from Sound of Music) then across the river and through the old city for 1.5 hrs.
Then had free time till 5.00 - visited the cathedral, many squares and shops.
Met Balasz at 5.00 then headed back to Vienna, arriving at 8.30pm.
It was the last week of school holidays so quite a lot of traffic heading home and longer trip than usual.
The tour operators will let you know exactly what time for pick-up, and if you need to be back at a certain time, they will make sure you are!
Hope that helps - I highly recommend this tour!! :)
