What to expect
Grab the chance to beat the crowds and enjoy a guided hike to Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) and the Lysefjord during the serenity of Norway’s off-season. Join Outdoorlife Norway on an autumn hike to Preikestolen, and witness the magic of the season’s shifting colors and post-equinox daylight. Experience Norway’s crisp and cool mountain air while hiking on trails that were recently upgraded by Nepalese Sherpas, who ‘paved’ the way using local stones. After an early-morning pick-up, your adventure will begin with a 30-minute transfer to the base of the hiking trail, including driving the world’s longest undersea road tunnel. After a short briefing at the trailhead, you’ll embark on your journey to Preikestolen. After 2.5 hours* of trekking, you’ll be rewarded with a panoramic view of some of the most dramatic scenery Fjord-Norway has to offer. Your guide will serve you a warm drink and snack while allowing you time to enjoy a well-deserved break at the cliff’s edge. If conditions permit, your guide will follow an alternate route on the way back down which will take about 2-2.5 hours*. After a few last breaths of crisp mountain air, you’ll return as a group to Stavanger.

Enjoyable hike with an amazing guide
Jul. 2020
Awesome awesome experience. I booked last minute, and I was very happy that Outdoorlife Norway was able to accommodate me. Anna (our guide) was simply the best. She is very attentive, thorough, friendly and made sure we enjoyed our experience. During one part of the hike, she took us through an off the beaten trail in order to avoid the crowds and we encountered some fantastic views. I paid for the picture package - I highly recommend this option because you can enjoy the hike without pulling out your camera all the time to take pictures. Anna took amazing pictures (see one example below), so I just had to focus on enjoying the hike and the views. I also recommend Outdoorlife for solo travelers. You will meet friendly people in the hiking group and feel very welcomed :)

Difficult hike but so worth it..
Feb. 2020
I must admit this was one of the most difficult hikes that I have done, not that I have done too many or it is normally a difficult hike but because the conditions were very bad. Even the locals were surprised we managed to complete the hike on that day. Our guide was Fabrizo who was amazing, knowledgeful and helpful. He picked us from our respective hotels. We had our car parked at the Prieikestolen hikers hut, had our gear, spikes, poles etc ready. It was a very rough day, snow blizzard, heavy winds. Most of us were first timers and Fabrizo made sure he went slowly for us and took care of us on every step. The views were so worth it all the way. When we reached the top, we were the only ones, which was the prize we got for the difficult hike. The weather changes every few minutes in the fjords. Luckily the sun came out for few minutes and we got the best photos ever with the whole Pulpit rock to ourselves. What more could we ask for. The views from the top were simply amazing and worth every bit of difficulty we had. The hike down wasnt easy either, heavy snow and winds. Please make sure you are fit before you attempt this hike, as it does say moderate but the conditions can make it quite difficult. At the end of the hike we had a lovely soup for lunch at the Prieikestolen Lodge and we were dropped back to our hotels. It took us over 6 hours going up and about same coming down. I highly recommend this tour, must do.

Magic day
Mar. 2020 • Solo
Our guide was full of life and love of Norway. She divided the walk into sections with breaks and information so it was easily managed and I didn't feel overwhelmed. She was calm and sensible. Because it was out of season, we had ample opportunities to stop, look around, chat and savour our experience. There were very few people climbing that day. We were provided with snow spikes and poles which helped enormously. It was a lovely day and too hot for all the clothing layers recommended! The soup provided at the end was welcome and good.

Great trip
Mar. 2020
I had a really great time on this trip. We did get really lucky with the weather - blue sky and sun, as well as snow on the ground! At the top there were around ten people which made the experience even better. Our guide Hilde and her dog Molli were great guides. I never felt rushed, and Hilde was always happy to answers questions and share information with us. I would highly recommend booking with them, especially during the offseason as it can be helpful depending on the weather.

Phenomenal experience! A must do!
My girlfriend and I did the winter hike on march 2nd, and it is without a doubt the most incredible experience we’ve had outdoors.
The company is very professional, communicating with us beforehand to make sure that we had all the necessary equipment and giving us advice on what to expect.

The pickup at the hotel was on time. There were 6 of us on the hike plus the guide, Salvatore. Sal was wonderful and knowledgeable , helping us navigate safely through the snow and even taking us along a lesser-known path showing us additional spots normally not seen on the regular hike. He was very friendly and patient and helped establish good rapport among the members of out groupmost of which who did not know each other before the hike. That made it even more enjoyable.

And the views, oh my, it’s hard to describe how fantastic they were. That in in and on itself made all the walking worth it.

The level of physical fitness required was moderate, requiring effort but not exhausting by any means. I think the guide had a lot to donwhith that. A perfect first winter hike.

I also proposed to my girlfriend once we got to the top of Preikestolen (thanks to Sal and the the group for helping by the way!😉) which made it that much more special, just wonderful!

The hike back was great as well. We took the regular trail back, taking in new sights which helped with fatigue as we kept seeing new sights for most of the way back.

They give you hot tea at the top (very welcome) and delicious soup and bread after we returned to the company offices at the star of the hike.

All in all, we’d recommend the tour and Outdoorlife Norway a million times over.

Thank you for making our trip an unforgettable experience!

What a day! Want to do it again.
Nov. 2019
My hike will be remembered for years to come. My guide Hilde, her faithful guide dog Molli, and I nearly had the trail and rock to ourselves. From hotel pick up to evening drop off the day was perfect with lots of great information and conversation along the way. I had the rock to myself and Hilde took a great picture, the standard one with arms outstretched but they were MY arms outstretched and no one around. After seeing pictures from peak season I am truly counting this as a once in a lifetime adventure.

Worth the Price!
Dec. 2019
The off-season is the best season! Our guide, Salvador, was fantastic with safety, knowledge, and guiding. He carried warm black current juice to the top for us and took us off the beaten path--totally worth the views even if it's cloudy!!! The soup at the lodge was amazing and the drive & ferries back were relaxing after the hike & to see the sword monument. (Also a bonus: I study geology and Salvador has some background in it, so I thoroughly enjoyed talking about the local geology and insights into it; thank you, Salador!)

Amazing tour
Everything in the tour was perfect, the weather, the timing. Fabrizio, our guide was great, extremely courteous and helpful. He replies to all our questions. Went beyond to ensure everyone was safe. As a plus, he even would pickup any plastic or litter he would find. That by itself is for me enough reason to give a perfect score. The suggested route was perfect. And he have us some fantastic berry tea.

Nice guided tour
Nov. 2019
I went to Preikestolen with my girlfriend with OutdoorLife on Sunday 10 November. We were very lucky because it was a sunny day, so the hike to the rock was amazing. The group we found was very nice and friendly and our guide Salvatore was very good doing his job.
Just 2 notes about the experience:
1 - We had to met at the 7:45 in front of Clarion, to catch the ferry of 8:45, but that ferry is not present during low season, so we had to wait the one of 9:15. Not a big issue, but be at 7:45 in front of Clarion meant that I woke up at 6:30, so, a little disturbing.
2 - This hike include a visit to Sverd i Fjell, but in our group there were some people that should catch a bus at 18:00. To let them catch the bus we weren't taken to Sverd i Fjell. I didn't argued about this, but I think it's not fair not to have something I payed for.
Apart from this inconvenience the hike was very good. Salvatore will took you off the main trail if there are the conditions, and this is very nice, because you can see different spots that otherwise you will loose.
I will suggest this tour to someone because the price is quite affordable and going alone to Preikestolen is not as good as with a group I think (we have taken pictures between us). At the end we had an asparagus soup with very good and fresh bread, that was included. Considering how expensive is food in Norway this was very good.

Just a suggestion for OutdoorLife, in case of drawbacks of any kind attributable to you (it can always happen) I suggest you to offer a discount to the customer, it seems fair to me ;)

Hi Paolo! Thanks for your feedback. Great to hear you enjoyed it so much! I followed up on your 2 points. The guide was assuming he could take the ferry from Stavanger at 08:15 am, which runs Mon-Sat year-round. But on Sundays, this ferry does not exist. Normally, we drive an alternative route and take another ferry on Sundays. Due to a misunderstanding, the guide waited for the non-existing departure, causing a delay. We are sorry about this mistake and have changed routines to avoid this in the future. Regarding the stop at Sverd i Fjell (something we include as a complimentary bonus) - it is common practice that if guests request to drive straight to Stavanger, the guide asks the other guests if this is ok. I will check if you were asked this. If you contact us directly, we can offer you a free photo package as a little act of goodwill. Thanks again for sharing your experience. We hope to see you in the future! Kind regards, Johannes Outdoorlife Norway

Perfect hike, and great value
Nov. 2019
Looking at the hike beforehand, and knowing now how difficult it was, I'm confident we could have easily done this hike ourselves. We walked up Mt Olympus on our own, it was a short hike with not much elevation gain, and the main reason we booked it through the company was the logistics of getting to the car park. We would have to hire a car, find somewhere to park it, get ferry tickets, etc.

However, not only was all that sorted for us, but we also had a great day with two fantastic guides, Alan and Salvatore, who showed us more than just the path to Pulpit Rock, but other views too. We had trekking poles and crampons included (I would have been reluctant to hire these on my own, and would probably have slipped all over the place) and after the hike, which was done at an easy pace, we had wonderful soup and bread at the lodge, as well as snacks and hot drinks at the top. Then we were taken back in the van, and almost fell asleep - good job we weren't driving ourselves.

I cant think of a single reason it would have been better doing this trip on our own. It was good to have company, the guides spoke excellent English and were friendly and helpful. The price was less that we would have paid hiring a car and equipment, paying for ferry tickets, and it was much more fun too. The safety aspect can't be ignored either, the weather was good for our trip, but the guides know the terrain, know where is slippy, know where to take extra care.

If we come back in the summer, we'll book the same trip, and maybe a longer one too. We've traveled all over the world, a lot of it without guides, but I can absolutely wholeheartedly recommend you do this trip with this company. Simply perfect.
