Really exciting trip to philip island. Stop at Maru park, able to see kaola and wallabies, and best things was helicopter ride and watch penguins parade

Two hours is not enough time at the Penguin Parade and information center
Mar. 2020
I came back extremely disappointed and feeling rushed after this tour. The allocation of time is terrible as there was no time to visit the information center at the National Park after a rushed dinner to get to the Penguin Parade which itself is MAGNIFICENT. MARU Wildlife Park is really caged animals who should be sleeping / resting during the day; it seemed forced, and incomparable with the freedom of the national park.

Note there are no photographs allowed during the Penguin Parade, which policy had not been advised by the tour guide / driver.

Hi Marcia, sorry to hear you did not enjoy the day. Maru is a wildlife shelter and helps injured animals by providing them a thorough veterinary check, and caring for them until they have recovered enough to be able to make it in the wild again. They are also a ZAA (Zoo Aquarium Association) accredited wildlife park. To receive the status, the park needs to prove that they give progressive, science-based approach to animal welfare and meet a list of standards. Thank you for pointing out the camera ban in Phillip Island! It is important for the well being of the penguins to not use flash or photography near the penguin parade. Thank you for your feedback and we hope you enjoy your travels in Australia!

Great trip
The trip is quite enjoyable, with a wonderful guide @ JP. Started on time in a comfortable coach. The nobbies centre is a great place to visit with a spectacular view. The penguin parade is something that you must enjoy the experience if you are in Melbourne. We reached CBD at 1130 pm, after a long day but worth every moment of it.

Great day by the sea
Feb. 2020 • Friends
This was a wonderful tour to see the gorgeous beaches and cliffs on Phillip Island, along with all its wildlife. We had plenty of opportunities to see wild wallabies and even an echidna. And the walk along the Woolamai beach was amazing (don’t turn your back on the ocean, you’ll get wet!).

The tour has plenty of stops where you get enough time to wander about, and ends with the amazing experience at the penguin parade.

Our guide, Troy, was great. His tips on where to go and sit and what to do at the penguin parade (don’t just stay on the beach) were absolutely spot on.

One helpful tip, when they say bring warm clothing, they mean it. It gets very cold on the beach at night, so come prepared!

Great day out
Feb. 2020 • Friends
Well organised tour that was excellent value for money. Saw koalas, wombats, kangaroos and wallabies up close but penguins undoubtedly the highlight. We chose the underground viewing that was well worth the extra as it was a cool evening and you needed to be in place at least 30 minutes before the penguins came on shore. It is a late night as the coach did not get back to Melbourne until after midnight. Dave. V our driver excellent not only for his good humour but also his knowledge.

Too long
Jan. 2020
Penguins parade was wonderful and very close to watch . However the tour is too long(12 hours) and can be easily shortened. An hour at Cape Woolamai is too long when there are no swimmers in the party. Trip to Koala park is basically a trip to children’s animal zoo. The guide was wonderful and very enthusiastic. Drop off near the hotel after midnight was very much appreciated.

Amazing experience
Feb. 2020 • Couples
My husband and I booked the Phillip Island tour. We were picked up on time and first taken to Maru. This was a really exceptional experience. You get to be up close to a lot of native Australian animals including Kangaroos and wallabies. We then went to a chocolate tour which was nice and then spent a few minutes visiting a beach. The weather was beautiful, if you happen to be going on a really hot day, bring a lot of water and sunscreen as you spend most of the day outside. We then had some extra time and made a bonus stop at pyramid rock, if you go between April and November you may be lucky enough to see some whales. Afterwards we went to the nobbies which is a great place to grab some pictures and see some penguins before the main event. We then when to see the penguin parade, we purchased the penguin plus which is definitely worth it. The majority of the penguins will walk right by you. Make sure to get to the viewing area at least half an hour before the penguins are due to get a good seat. Once the sun sets it can become chilly so bring some extra clothing. There were around 1200 penguins that came in the night we went. We were then dropped off back to our pickup point, keep in mind this tour was a full 12 hours so be prepared for a late night. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone interested in seeing some Australian wildlife.

Don’t bother
A wasted day. Our day began behind schedule with a full bus. The driver was a very pleasant man and very entertaining so I do not blame any of this on him.
We stopped at Maru animal park just a glorified private zoo and very expensive. You have to pay to feed the kangaroo and pay for a photo with the kolas. Not to mention a cup of tea is $4:50.
The drive while pleasant is quite long. Next stop was Cape Woolamai beach. This was the best part of our trip. We did a Lovley 15 minute walk. Then we drove and looked at kangaroos along the way to the Nobbies marine centre which is under whelming. A snack and water will cost you a pretty penny. Then we were off to dinner in Cows a nice coastal town.
From there we went to see the penguins. This attraction draws a huge crowd. Crowd control is poor and we were instructed to sit and to not be noisy and to not take photos. A large number of people did not obey and made it a very unpleasant experience. Many of the tour operators do not give their customers a long enough time to sit and enjoy the experience. This leads to many people rushing about making a noise and disrupting it for everyone even the dear little penguins who are being very brave as they march across the sand.
To see the penguin is lovely and we got to enjoy it once a large number of people had left. You do need at least and hour to sit and watch. Then as you walk back to the car park you can take your time as you watch the dear little birds find the burrows along the sandy dunes. Unfortunately I think this is a money grab. Trying to get as many people in as possible. You can purchase a penguin plus ticket which takes you to a smaller group and that maybe more worthwhile. All in all we should have done something else. We were not prepared for the hullabaloo that awaited us.

Hi there! We are sorry to hear this tour was not for you. While we understand your observations of the tour, we'd like to draw your attention to a few positive facts about the Maru Koala Park and Penguin Parade. Maru is a wildlife shelter and helps injured animals by providing them a thorough veterinary check, and caring for them until they have recovered enough to be able to make it in the wild again. Phillip Island's Nature Park and Penguin Parade are part of the UNESCO Western Port Biosphere Reserve and encompass wildlife sanctuaries, wetlands, woodlands and coastlines which are protected and managed by world-renowned environmental and research programs. Profits generated by the main attractions, such as the Penguin Parade, are invested into conservation, research, ecotourism, environmental and educational initiatives within the Nature Parks. While this does not change your experience of the day, we hope you can appreciate their efforts for the wildlife conservation. We wish you enjoyable travels in Australia!
