    Great overview tour!
Great overview of the city and surrounding area! Asta, our guide, gave good commentary, and because there were no other passengers, was able to tailor stops etc. to our interests. The rhododendron dell in the botanic garden was amazing, and the views from different vantage points really helped give perspective.

Asia was delightful to be with as she showed us the sights and sounds of Dunedin and surrounds. Very accommodating to our wishes and very knowledgeable re the history of Dunedin. It has wetted our appetite to visit again in the future. We thoroughly recommend Fantail Tours. Regards B&B.

Small group Dunedin Tour without Cruise Ship price
Fan Tail Tours gave a fantastic tour of Dunedin. We were a couple but only had 8 persons on our tour. Trii, our guide (short for Teresa) was so thoughtful and prepared for all the weather elements even offering binoculars for viewing. Our tour was fast moving and we stopped just long enough for photo stops at great views the big tour busses can’t make. Quick tour of botanical gardens then went to Royal Albatross Center. Great option compared to cruise excursions and made certain we were delivered right back to our ship’s gangway on time.

    Excellent tour!
Excellent tour guides. Small group of 8, he asked what we were interested in and made a point to ensure we saw/learned about what we were interested in. Went out of his way and made an extra stop for a client, and took us by a grocery store for snacks.

City Highlights, Larnach Castle & Olveston Guided Tour
I only had 24 hours to see as much as I could of Dunedin, and this tour was excellent for that. Asta our guide, even picked me up from my accommodation which wasn’t quite central, as I wouldn’t have been able to get to the pick up point in time to join the tour otherwise. We communicated by email and she was really helpful.

    Fun and informative tour
Aster was a fantastic guide and she actually did the tour just for me, so was extra special. We skipped one location as I had already been there and she was happy to tailor to that request. I would highly recommend this tour

    Wonderful way to see Dunedin
My family and I had a wonderful day with Asta, our tour guide. Asta picked us up at our hotel, gave us a wonderful tour of the city and was very knowledgeable about the history of the city, NZ, and local flora and wildlife. She showed us some real gems of the city - including beautiful gardens and breath taking views of the ocean. We really had a great time trekking up the steepest road, exploring the area, and watching and learning about the wildlife. Thank you Asta! And thank you, Fantail Tours!!

    Outstanding tour and guide
Asta was an EXCELLENT tour guide. Very friendly, welcoming and knowledgable about Dunedin. She took us around the city center, the university, the old railway station (beautiful!), an overlook (can't remember the name but fantastic), Baldwin Street (mind-blowing), and best of all, she took us on foot around the top part of the botanical garden. We enjoyed this tour immensely and highly recommend it!

Gorgeous in any season; must-do in Dunedin
I had the privilege of taking this tour with Asta during a short visit to Dunedin, and I highly recommend it. Asta, the owner of Fantail Tours, was extremely helpful and responsive when I booked online. Pickup on your day was exactly when and where stated. We had a small and not very chatty group on my tour day, but Asta made the time comfortable by sharing interesting information about history and current events in Dunedin. She also offered options for us because we were such a small group and the weather (light rain and clouds) wasn’t conducive to the views her groups typically enjoy. My favorite parts were the Dunedin Botanic Garden (beautiful plants, intriguing birds in aviary and roosting in the trees) and the Royal Albatross Centre on Otago Peninsula (even better than I thought it would be due to views and fascinating albatross). Extra shoutout to Asta: I am ordinarily a very anxious passenger on winding and narrow roads along a dropoff, but Asta’s driving made me feel quite safe and able to enjoy our surroundings. I would love to come back to Dunedin one spring and take this tour again to see the rhododendrons blooming, the albatross chicks in their gorgeous fluffiness and the albatross adults soaring on the wind. Many thanks to Asta and Fantail Tours for an experience that I treasure.

    crowded van
The tour covered a lot of ground. the highlight was the penguin reserve. I only give this 3 stars because of the van. It was a cramped 13 passenger van with not much room between seats. We had a total of 12 passengers. If you got an interior seat, the views were mostly obscured.

An enjoyable way to spend a day in Dunedin
With limited time in Dunedin (cruise ship) my husband and I would recommend this tour. Therese was our driver and guide for this very informative and thorough tour of Dunedin and it's environs. Her knowledge of the area was extensive and her passion was evident. The minivan we travelled in with Therese was a bit tight in the back seat for four adults. The countryside was picturesque and there were ample stops for photos. Therese kindly made a quick stop for us to grab some lunch to eat before our tour at the penguin reserve started. We really enjoyed visiting the penguin reserve and rehabilitation area. Saskia took us on a tour of the reserve which was a very scenic coastal location. We are glad we chose to spend our day sightseeing in Dunedin with Therese and Fantail Tours.

    Recommended excursion
It was a very enjoyable excursion to the Otago Peninsula. Teresa was a very good guide who spoke passionately about her region and country. After several visits in Dunedin, we rode a small bus around the peninsula, with beautiful views. Although no lunch was provided (very good, as that is usually a waste of time), there was the opportunity to eat something at the Albatross Center. On the return there was another stop at Dunedin train station.

We booked a half day private guide and had Asta for our guide who drove us around Dunedin town and up to the Peninsula in a very comfortable Mercedes people carrier. Asta was superb, very knowledgeable, passionate and a real pleasure to be with for the day. She was flexible regarding starting time which was really appreciated, and very accomodating regarding the itinerary. After a brief visit around town, we visited the lovely botanical gardens, and then headed up to the Peninsula where we were in for a real treat. As a last minute request, we asked to visit a beach in an attempt to spot a Sea Lion, and we were treated with a close up view of several of these amazing creatures. Thank you Asta for a wonderful day.

Spent the day with Asta seeing some fantastic scenery before stopping for the best Fish and Chips we've ever had. She navigated the roads like an expert while filling our heads with history of Dunedin. Recommend the boat ride.

I contacted Fantail because we needed to be sure that we could be met at the cruise ship with a vehicle that could accommodate my husband's knee rover, and could be flexible to deal with whatever mobility issues he still faced at the time of the tour. Asta really delivered--we saw the City Highlights, but because we were especially interested in wildlife we concentrated on the Peninsula and fitting in the wildlife cruise. We had a lovely time and saw a lot-- fur seals, dolphins blue penquins, albatross and many other birds. She even did an extra stop so we could get the New Zealand Wine for a gift since this was our last port of call. Full Service! We especially appreciate her informed commentary and ease of conversation. Comfortable and fun!

We were able to customize this tour to see exactly what we wanted to see and really packed an incredible amount into 1 day. We did the cadbury tour, Dunedin city sites, wildlife cruise, Larnach castle and stopped for great fish and chips (recommended by our guide). Our guide Asta was very knowledgable and super friendly. We would definitely recommend Fantail and go with them again!

Tour included a boat trip to the albatross nesting area and viewing of other wildlife. She was very flexible about what we were interested in seeing. Recommend highly. I am a seasoned traveler but never write any reviews. However this time I’m making an exception as we had such wonderful experience. We are a small party of just a Mum and a young child and Asta was able to custome made our tour to make it enjoyable for both of us. We felt very well looked after, it was such fun for my son with all the wildlife he could see in real life and the beautiful Dunedin heritage for me. Our guide was most knowledgeable and we could see her real passion for the place. We want to come back as soon as we can.
