About
Ride the Arrow River Bridges bike route on a supported, independent cycling trip from Queenstown that explores the historic mining community of Arrowtown, country lanes, and a Gibbston Valley winery. The booking takes care of every detail, including bike rental, trail maps, and a support vehicle, but you’ll have the freedom to set your own pace throughout the day, finishing with a wine tasting before the return shuttle to Queenstown.

Highlights
  • Cover 9 miles (15 km.) of mostly flat terrain
  • See a quiet and beautiful part of Central Otago
  • Includes bike rental, transport, and a wine tasting
What to expect
  • Meet a driver at your Queenstown accommodations or in town (depending on the time and season of tour), then transfer to Arrowtown to start the Arrow River Bridges bike route. You’ll be fitted with a comfortable mountain bike and get detailed instructions for the ride before setting out on a trail that follows the Arrow and Kawarau River gorges. Cross three suspension bridges as you ride, including one that’s famous for bungee jumping—pause to check out the jumpers along the way. Every 3 miles (5 km.), the support vehicle will meet the Arrow River Bridges trail so you can stock up on water or rest your legs.

The Arrow River Bridges ride concludes in the Gibbston Valley, called the “valley of the vines” for a landscape of lush, rolling vineyards. Toast the end of your ride with a wine tasting, then return to Queenstown in the support vehicle.

Best half day ever. The crew were very friendly and helpful. The trail had great views, 3 suspension bridges and terrific weather. Couldn't have asked for more.

We arrived at the office well in advance of our pick-up time. I wanted to make sure that I didn't need an e-bike. There were e-bikes available but I decided that I would be able to handle the undulating, gravel terrain.
Jason, was our guide and pick-up the group up on time. When we arrived at the trail head, Jason unloaded the bikes and gave us a little training on operating the bikes. He was sure to remind the American riders that the front brakes and back brakes are operated by the opposite hands as they are in the USA and we should ride on the left hand side of trail rather than the right hand. He helped us adjust our seats to the correct hight and encouraged us to take a little spin to make sure they were the right height. We were given a map and a water bottle. Jason gave us instructions to follow the orange trail signs and the locations that he would be checking in on us.
The trail was beautiful and it was so nice to be able to stop and take pictures when we wanted and not when the guide stopped. We very much enjoyed the wine tasting at the end of our route. Jason came and got us when it was time to go. He kindly offered to drop us off at our hotel which was along the way back to the bike office. That saved us at least a half an hour in time and the cost of a taxi ride. We were so grateful for that extra time. We would highly recommend the bike ride. It was so beautiful.

What an incredible experience. Maybe my family’s favorite in Queenstown. Incredibly scenic ride. We did the Bridge ride. The eBikes make the ride about the scenery. The entire staff was very accommodating. We visited on the busiest week of the year and we had a scheduling mix up. The staff did everything they could to accommodate us. I give this company and experience my highest recommendation.

We were picked up on time at the designated location. Our guide Jason was friendly, informative and knowledgeable. He drove us to the drop off point, explained our route and that he would be at points along the way in case we wanted a lift or to make sure we didn’t get lost. My wife had an evoke and I had a mountain bike. Both bikes were easy to ride and had been maintained. The route was easy and at this time of year few other people were using the track. We made good time so we’re given the option of riding a bit further which we did. All in all an easy ride, good advice and we had a good time.

Had a great half day doing this beautiful bike ride. Starting in Arrowtown we mainly followed the river finishing at Gibbston Valley for a wine tasting and sampling some of the delicious cheeses. Hamish was our guide and driver and was first class. Good fun, informative and attentive. We were able to do the tour at our own pace and Hamish met us at various points along the track to ensure we didn’t get lost, to take any unwanted bags, coats etc from us and generally check we were ok. Although not bike experts the bikes we had suited us perfectly and were well maintained. Helmets were provided. Would highly recommend this company and the tour we did. A great way to enjoy the beautiful scenery away from the roads along a wonderful bike route with not too many steep inclines! Thanks Hamish for a great afternoon.

Dec. 2018 • Friends
the trails were very prefty, and super fun to ride across swing bridges. that said, i would hesitate to recommend the half day tour / team.

the “included wine tasting” in gibbston valley at the end was only worth $5 which cheaped out the whole experience (seriously? for a $135 tour??)

one of the drivers (“steve rex”) kept cracking racist jokes on the drive out, and made offensive commentary at the expense of less experienced bike riders during the initial briefing. sure nz isn’t politically correct, but a minimum degree of professional courtesy is expected if you are making money off international tourists.

Sorry to hear you did not enjoy your experience with us wanderingggg. We do offer self-guided options at a lesser price point, but you chose a supported tour option giving the re-assurance of vehicle and guide/drive support at designated points along the trail which comes at a higher price point. Any jokes our drivers may make are certainly not racist - that may have been your own interpretation - apologies if you took offence.

Fabulous day out! We took the shuttle to Arrowtown, rode to Gibbston Tavern and were picked up by Leif the driver. We took the half day tour. We started with coffee in Arrowtown and continued on the ride on ebikes. The ride is doable for average fitness rider on a regular bike but so much more fun on an e-bike - definitely worth the extra $. Coffee at Provisions, great suspension bridge, snow-capped vistas and beer at the tavern were highlights. The operators were knowledgeable, funny and flexible - will definitely use these guys next time we’re here!

The weather was perfect; not a cloud in the sky for my ride! I met the driver in Queenstown, right outside the Queenstown SnowCentre, and he drove us up to Kawaru Bridge (where they have bungy jumping). The ride was mostly flat, though a few parts were gently sloped. The bridges on the trail were perhaps the best part, as the trail crosses over the river several times.

They allot more than enough time to bike the trail, and I had over an hour to explore Arrowtown as well. Pickup was smooth as well.

My wife and I enjoy riding but didn't want to spend all day in the seat so we chose the half day ride. The Arrow River route was beautiful and fairly easy. The pedestrian bridges were fun to ride across and the overall grade of the path was such that it was actually hard to not speed along and miss the scenery. We ended up finishing a bit early which was great as we got to spend more time at the vineyards. This is a great ride for all ages, young and old.
