Milford Sound Nature Cruise (Day 1)
After hotel pickup in Te Anau, gateway to the World Heritage–listed Fiordland National Park, you’re driven by coach to Milford Sound. Enjoy a nature cruise of this Eighth Wonder of the World as your skipper nudges up close to sheer rock faces where you can feel the mist of cascading waterfalls.
From the spacious decks and large viewing windows, gaze at postcard-perfect Mitre Peak and keep an eye out for marine life such as bottlenose dolphins, New Zealand fur seals and rare Fiordland crested penguins that call Milford Sound home. Specialist nature guides on board offer insight on the region and help point out any wildlife sightings.
After the cruise, you’re driven back to your Te Anau hotel by coach.
Te Anau Glowworm Cave Tour (Day 2)
From the lakefront Visitor Centre in Te Anau, you’ll board a catamaran for a ride across Lake Te Anau. Disembark at the Cavern House, located on the western shore, and begin your Te Anau Glowworm Caves tour at the visitor interpretation center. Here, informational displays and a specialist guide provide an overview of this mysterious cave system and its tiny inhabitants: glowworms that give off a phosphorescent light in the silent darkness.
Follow on foot as you descend underground through a network of sculpted limestone passages. Gaze in wonder at a subterranean river with its whirlpools and waterfalls. A small boat delivers you into a glowworm grotto where you’ll float along the current and be amazed by the luminescent glimmer of thousands of glowworms.
After your cave exploration, return by boat across Lake Te Anau to the starting point, where your tour concludes.
