This visit in Dec 2022 was my 3rd visit in 20 years, and was as delightful as the previous visits.

The boat ride to the caves is a nice experience, which gets better - with the presentation, then the walk, and finally the short boat ride in the glow-worm grotto.

The entire experience is a positive one.

I would certainly recommend staying at Te Anau for at least one night to enjoy the Glow worm caves and the other delights Te Anau offers.

What an amazing experience. By chance saw this when booking Earnslaw so decided to make a day of it. Staying in Q'town it was a long day trip with the drive but so worth it. First you board a boat for a magical trip across lake Te Anau to get to the Glow Worm caves. Once across the lake the main group gets split up into smaller groups to go into the caves as the boat inside can only take around 12 people. I recommend not being one of the first groups to go into the caves, if you can have some patience it is worth it as then you get to watch the informative video about the glow worms before you go into the caves. There is free tea/coffee/hot chocolate provided and a few snacks you can buy. The actual caves were amazing, I wasn't sure what to expect but it was breathtaking, so well down .. just magical! Feel so privileged to have had the opportunity to visit this amazing experience. Thanks to the staff and skipper too, all very friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!!

Whilst seeing the glow worms were such a magical experience, the rest of the tour in the caves left me wanting a bit more. It felt very rushed as there were 4 groups of 12 from all the people that came across Lake Te Anau on the cruise. I would have liked to have slowed down a bit to really experience the caves, and learnt more about the cave system, geology and all that interesting stuff. Compared to some of the other tours I completed in New Zealand, it was a little disappointing.

Thank you for this valuable review. It's great to get honest feedback about our experience so we can better understand what our people enjoy and what we can improve on. We can look to reassess the tour duration in the future to ensure guests have plenty of time to take in the beauty of the underground Glowworm Caves.

The glow worms are a beautiful natural phenomenon and are worth seeing, but this tour is a bit misleading and overpriced. The actual glow worm tour only lasts around 10-15 mins the rest was the time spent on the ferry and time spent hanging around waiting for the other groups to complete the tour and the ferry to return. I think if they had provided a more accurate description I would have felt less disappointed.

Great trip at the weekend
30 mins boat ride around te anau lake is fab ,beautiful lake and some great scenery on a clear day .the boat itself is nicely kitted out with clean bathroom and some hot or cold water full station to make tea or fill up.there is also plenty of information while on way about the lake and surrounding area.
Once you arrive at the caves it's a well run operation splitting the group so only 12 or so go in a group at a time to the caves . Broken into a 20 min presentation and tea group in the information center for two groups and two groups head into the caves
The information part is half video and guide with some fun commentary and then you can grab included tea or coffee and buy snacks like biscuit/bar. It was good fun and nice warm fireplace too and we were able to leave our bags whe out group went to the caves which is handy
The caves trip is about 20 mins or so (I can't really judge) beware of the entrance as it's very low down and you do have to bend over alot getting in on the walkway . Nice guided trip through the cave with info. Then the main part is a quieter( as you will be asked not to talk ) 5 /10 min boat ride in the dark a few inches at times from the worms . Not totally for the faint of heart as its super bumpy and pitch black. So beautiful and magical boat ride.highly recommend such a well run tour !!!

This was fun for a quick experience in Te Anau. Well organized, good communication, and the caves are beautiful.

When booking, just know that you’re not getting a few hours with the glow worms. You’re getting a shuttle on the lake for about an hour including return), a 20 minute presentation on glow worms, a short walk through the caves until you get to the glow worm experience, and maybe only 10-20 minutes with the glow worms (which is enough to get the beauty I think).

It was worth the price for us, but imagine it probably seems steep for what it is to a lot of people and gets expensive for big groups.

Have travelled to many parts of the world and taken many such short day tours to various natural phenomena and expected a nice trip to see some glow worms in a cave. What I didn’t realise was the walk inside a breathtaking cave that almost seemed like a pathway to an adventure ride at Disneyland! The Sat in silence in punts while our expert guides took us through the most breathtaking cave filled with glow worms. This is an absolute must do experience and one I won’t forget in a long time. A great way to spend New Year’s Eve!

Everything was well organised and all was accompanied by informative information on the area, history and interesting facts. Recommending this tour to any friends who are thinking of travelling to the area.

My family and I had a really enjoyable time on this tour, as our guide Julianna, was really lively, humorous and knowledgeable as she introduced the history of the caves and the lives of the glow worms at the briefing session and at various points during the tour.

As much as it sounds cliche, entering the caves brought us into it another world, starting off with an interesting entrance as we had to duck low or bend down for an initial short portion of the path before we were able to stand upright normally. We were then greeted by large, cavernous dark spaces with perpetually wet floors, trickling waters off the walls and the sound of roaring waters. Be prepared to get drenched slightly due to this.

When we got into the boat to see the glow worms, it was truly pitch dark as Julianna had promised, and most importantly and gratefully, no one used flash photography or spoke loudly. In fact, our boat of passengers was really great and the entire journey was peacefully quiet and we were able to enjoy the tranquil experience with the hundreds (thousands?) of bioluminescent glow worms throughout the entire stretch of the dark tunnel - it really made us feel like we were in a galaxy of stars that were so close to our boat!

It was a fantastic experience I would recommend, not just on a rainy day.
