    Visit: Shantytown Heritage Park, Rutherglen Rd Paroa, Greymouth 7805 New Zealand

    Shantytown is conveniently located between the West Coast's major towns Greymouth and Hokitika - just 3kms off the main highway (SH6)

    Open Daily  8.30am - 5pm (expect Christmas Day) We recommend you allow at least 90 minutes for the full Shantytown experience.

    On arrival you will be provided with a self guide visitors map - we offer these in 10 different languages so please ask at the ticketing office if we can provide your made in your preferred language.

    To make the most of your visit please note the steam train departure times and plan your time at Shantytown around this.

    9.45am 10.45am, 11.45am, 1.15pm, 2.15pm, 3.15pm and 4pm

    Please note that during the low season the 10.45am and 3.15pm train may not run.

    Learn the art of Gold Panning! Our highly experience gold claim staff will show you the techniques and tips on how to pan for gold. The gold panning experience is $7.00 per pan and can be purchased at the Shantytown Gold Claim - A strike is guaranteed!

    Enjoyed looking at the old buildings and displays. Morning tea at King Dick's café was excellent and for $2 you can buy a bag a boiled lollies which are superb. Plenty of parking and had an enjoyable couple of hours walking around displays.
