    What to Expect
After pickup from Hervey Bay accommodations, your Sunset Cruise departs from Great Sandy Straits Marina.

Travel along the pristine waterways between Fraser Island and mainland Queensland, watching for dolphins and turtles as you admire the sunset over Hervey Bay.  Enjoy fresh seafood and non-seafood dishes, which include hot and cold finger foods served on the deck so you don’t miss any of the views. Items may include Hervey Bay king prawns, mixed gourmet pastries, fresh half-shell oysters, half-shell Hervey Bay scallops, kebabs, and crumbed or tempura fish bites (other items may be substituted or added).

As the evening continues, take in the twinkle of the city lights along the 8 miles (13 km) of beachfront that is the Charlton Esplanade. Cruise past Urangan Pier, and admire the glow of the harbor precinct as the sky darkens. Specific destinations are determined by tides and weather conditions. One complimentary drink of your choice is included - yes, even the premixed spirits.  Additional drinks are available for purchase on board at affordable prices.

When you return to the marina, you are free to continue your night independently at a number of establishments in Hervey Bay, or head back to your accommodation.

What a beautiful way to spend a late afternoon. Staff on board were amazing, friendly and informative. The food was awesome and to top it off we saw a beautiful sunset. I would recommend everyone going to Hervey Bay do this experience. Can’t wait to come back to do the whale

We love our sunset cruises too! Not much better than some great company, great music, delicious nibbles, a glass of your favourite tipple and a stunning sunset over the water. Actually, if you add a few humpback whales, it certainly adds to it. See you for an Afternoon + Sunset Whale watch at some stage. :-) Cheers, Rebecca

'Awesome'...thanks for the recommendation! The fresh, delicious canapés are what makes this cruise extra special. A generous selection of local seafood and non-seafood delights with a glass of your favourite tipple and a great sunset, always makes for a fantastic time on the water! We're glad you think so too! Hope to see you again for another cruise on Whalesong. Cheers, Rebecca

Thanks for the 5-star rating, Pedro! Whilst we're always hoping for incredible weather and smooth seas, it doesn't always happen. Our captain is very skilled and knows where to go to 'hide' from certain wind directions and sea swells. We try to make the cruise as pleasant and relaxing as possible for everyone. If it's too rough, we'll cancel the cruise and give you a full refund. We allocate about a plate full of food for everyone on board. Although it's in the form of canapés and is brought out over a 1.5 period, it may seem less than there actually is. For some people it constitutes a dinner, for others it doesn't. Hence, we don't sell the cruise as a dinner cruise. If you have a moment, I would appreciate it if you could please contact me on 07 4125 6222 or email at info@whalesong.com.au to discuss what you actually received in terms of food. I'd like to make sure you did receive what you were allocated, and if not, I'll investigate why not. Thanks again for taking the time to write a review!

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. As we're constantly striving to offer an exceptional guest experience, we appreciate all feedback we can learn from. I'm sorry to hear your expectations weren't met for our Hervey Bay Sunset Cruise. You're right, this cruise is not just a seafood cruise. Although we serve local seafood, we also serve many non-seafood items too. Our friendly crew serve Hervey Bay King prawns, Hervey Bay scallops, Coffin Bay oysters and Fish bites, but they also serve mixed pastries, quiches, meatballs, arancini balls, salmon mini wraps, vege sticks, dips and a large cheese platter. We try to cater to as many people as possible as we understand, especially in groups, some like seafood and others don’t – we want everyone in the group to have a fair share at eating. Our cruise used to be called the 'Seafood at Sunset' which is why we changed the name last year (and even ran a very public competition to do so), because we knew the name could create misconceptions about what the cruise actually is. As your booking came through a 3rd party, I have discussed with them the importance of spelling out exactly which food items are served, so as to not set expectations incorrectly. We’re still not sure if this was a factor but I wanted to let you know some of the steps we’ve taken to ensure this doesn’t happen again. Whilst the food is served to you and is not a ‘dinner’ nor a ‘buffet’, there is the equivalent of a full plate allocated to each individual on board – for some it constitutes a dinner, for others it doesn’t. Our crew have been trained (and are frequently reminded) to serve different areas first, e.g. they could go up the front with the first round, then down the back up the top the second round, then down the back and down the bottom the third round. We consciously try to get around everyone fairly and encourage people to take only a couple of items initially – reminding them there are other courses to come. After the crew have been around everyone once, we tidy up the plates and serve seconds until that course has finished. From your review, it looks as though you only received two of our six courses (the oysters and prawns are brought around together and are considered to be one course). I’m unsure how this is possible, but I imagine you forgot the mention the other courses in your review!? I don’t understand parts of your review, so if there’s anything I haven’t covered above, or if you’d simply like to chat about this further, please feel free to contact me directly on 07 4125 6222 to discuss. As the owner of this small family-run business, I take pride in our cruises, the wonderful experiences our guests have and the incredible job our crew do. If there’s anything we can do to make our guests experiences even better, I’d love to hear it. Once again, thanks for taking the time to write the review.
