Kudos to the team! We booked several tours with Old Town Trolley for March 2020, and had to cancel them all due to the start of the pandemic. Now, 21 months later, they are honoring all of the tours we purchased. The customer relations staff was excellent (thanks Adrienne!) and the attention and care delivered was unexpectedly wonderful.

My husband and I booked this tour as part of our anniversary trip in October 2017. We didn't know much about getting around D.C. before our visit, so we hoped this tour would allow us to see as much as we could in the short time we were in the city.

We were pleasantly surprised with this tour and would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to explore Washington, D.C.! We had the two day tour with hop on/hop off privileges. This allowed us to see all of the main sites in D.C. and then some. We also used the trolley as a sort of taxi, taking it to some of the museums and attractions we knew we did not want to miss.

Every troller driver we had was friendly and very knowledgable about the city. There were lots of fun facts and tidbits shared on each of our rides. The only thing I would suggest is some A/C on the trolleys! It was pretty warm during our visit, and I could imagine sweating on these buses in the middle of the summer.

The Monuments by Moonlight tour was exceptionally wonderful. It's certainly a different way to view all D.C. has to offer. Again, our tour guide/driver was very friendly and knowledgable - and he made sure we got very good angles of the monuments for our photographs.

The day hop on and hop off were well orgainized. Never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a bus and the stops were well displayed so it wasn't confusing trying to find where the stops were. The night tour guide was funny and entertaining as well as informative and we saw the lovely monuments lit up on a clear night.

Very disappointed in this tour. There is no hopping on and off at 17 different sites and they don't tell you this when you get on. Our day was planned around this fact. There was only one stop at the Lincoln Memorial where you are given 30 mins to walk around the sites. The guide states to be back on time as the bus does not wait for you, He was proud to say that he has never left anyone behind, people just choose not to come back. Sure they don't come back because they are disappointed in being ripped off. Don't waste your time with this company. You can Uber to the sites cheaper!

We bought combo tour tickets which included the hop on, hop off, the Arlington Cemetery tour and the Monuments by Moonlight tour. All but one of the employees of the company we interacted with were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. My problem with this company is with logistics.

On the Arlington tour, there were several gravesites that my son specifically wanted to visit. That was not possible because there were very few stops inside the cemetery. Unless you were able and willing to walk a great distance, and due to health reasons I was not, much of the cemetery was simply out of reach. One disturbing note: There is a trolley stop behind the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. When we stopped there for passengers to disembark, a paying passenger attempted to board. The tour guide very loudly and very sternly told her that she could NOT board there and pointed to a spot not more than three trolley lengths away and told her she would have to board there instead. That seemed more than a little ridiculous.

The Monuments by Moonlight tour is probably great for people who just want to see the monuments all lit up. I purchased this tour purely for the purpose of taking pictures of the monuments in the lights. This was going to be one of the highlights of my trip to DC. Turned out it wasn't at all what I'd hoped for.

On this tour we spent a great deal of time riding around Capitol Hill and the surrounding area while our tour guide told us about the various buildings we passed. This was mildly interesting but I paid to see the monuments, not to tour buildings I had little interest in. Once we finally got to the monuments we were given very little time to get off the trolley and visit them. I was carrying a tripod and a DSLR camera. We were told we could see 2 to 3 monuments at each of the three stops which the trolley made but we were only given 30 minutes to do so. As you can imagine, the monuments we were told we could see at each stop were not right next to each other and so you have to factor in the time it took to walk to each one. Hurrying through the crowds, setting up for pictures and then hurrying on to the next monument was very time consuming. At the stop that included the Lincoln Memorial, the Viet Nam Wall and the Korean War Monument I was only able to visit two of the three. That was very disappointing. At each stop I felt rushed and was distracted by worrying about getting back to the trolley on time. Consequently, my pictures weren't what I had hoped they'd be and since I probably won't ever be back in DC that was very disappointing. If we had not spent so much time riding past buildings that by no stretch of the imagination could be considered monuments we could have had ample time at each stop. Another problem was getting pictures of the monuments that we were not stopping to visit but instead would be slowly passing. When taking pictures at night in low light it's essential to be absolutely still. The trolley would slow down to a crawl but not actually stop. The tour guide would say "Here's another great photo op" but what you'd get was a blur of lights. One of the other passengers finally asked him if we could just please stop moving for a second, but the tour guide said he would get in trouble with the police if he actually stopped. I understand that, but don't advertise it as an opportunity to get pictures if it really isn't. I ended up not even getting a decent picture of the Capitol building at night. An iconic shot that I shouldn't have come home without. That was a huge disappointment.

Perhaps the company should offer a Monuments by Moonlight tour that is an actual photography tour. No touring buildings, no slowly passing for photo ops that just don't work. Simply take us to monuments, tell us a little about them, park and then give us plenty of time to shoot before moving on to the next ones.

We looked up Old Town Trolly Tours online and went with them because of good rating.

We, however, did not have that great of time, especially for $45 per person. The city wasn’t overly busy today, but it took a long time between busses for some reason (40-50) minutes. When we tried to call the main number, we couldn’t get through to anyone.

Most of the stops seemed to drop you behind the entrances to the places we wanted to go to.

I will say, all the drivers we had knew their stuff and were super cool.

The hop-on Hop-off Trolley + Monuments by Moonlight Tour was nice seeing things at night. But you didn't get much time to get off, take pictures nor look around and being in a wheelchair made things impossible. With just 10 minutes my time would have been used up just geting off and back on. The day time trolley was nicer because you had the time to hop on and then off where you choose. (that is as long as the trolley had a wheelchair lift).
